hi everyone! for the past couple of years i have played sweeper and forward and i have incredible speed and power and my shot is very good(i think so). and im about to start the spring season and my coach has decided to move me to defensive mid. because he wants me to have the ball more. i of course have absolutely no idea how to play defensive mid. and i have about a week to learn. so if anybody out there can give me some good tips or some do's and don'ts that would be very helpfull. thanks!

Its not my position. Welcome to SFN
Anyway, should you ask for tips from your coach?
Be very aware of your defense, as your main objective is to protect it by destroying play, I guess its a modern was of applying what was known as el rompedor. Depending on your teams style of play willl your role offensive wise be determined. Defensive midfielders normally recieve the ball from the defenders and pass the ball on to the most gifted players, but this is not in all cases.
As i said, I dont know much about playing there, stated the obvious. Hope to be of any help!

In my opinion, the position means you do not push up too far in attack. Your job will be to receive the ball from defence and either find a left/right midfielder or the attacking midfielder. In attack you should never be ahead of your offensive midfielder unless you switch temporarily. Basically you should be the first one back to defend.

Well one thing I can tell you is that you need a lot of communication with your midfield and your defenders like TD was saying you need to make sure someone is covering you when you decide to move up into the attack!

i can just remember myself.
i always liked to play as an attacking midfielder or on the wings, suddenly my coach told me to play in the defensive midfield position. it was really hard at the beginning, as on the wings you can dribble and lose the ball sometimes, that wont be a huge problem, but when you lose the ball in the defensive midfield position, that a huge mistake,, but trust me, then you are going to like it, you will feel the whole team depending on you, and that gives you confidence, you yourself going to feel it, that you are the most important guy in the team
the most important tips in my opinion,
*you have to decide what to do with the ball before you receive it( beacuase you wont have any time)
*in case of counter attacks against your team, make sure you make the tactical fouls, stop the player but gently, dont send yourself off.
*try to change your style with each ball, short passes, crosses, through balls sometimes(you will help in attack)
*be strong in air
*never ever lose your concentration
*always get near the guy who has the ball(specially people on the wings) they will always need you.
*ENJOY YOUR GAME ;)
i hope i was ok
oh i forgot, WELCOME TO SFN!
