strange match that brasil had no business even managing a point in. AND THAT'S WHY THEY DIDN'T ! scolari's boys looked isolated, dis-organized but most of all, like a group with absolutly no cohesion whatsoever and this, above all is what should be troubling every brasileiro at this very moment.
if brasil's inability to muster up a point from this match vs argentina in what was essentially an exhibition for them is not shameful, then you should be ashamed for accepting such filth !
VERGOGNA BRASILE !

It apperas that brazil have in fact fallen from grace.. everyone is saying, be patient on the players and give them time to play as a group.. welll good news.. they will have 4 more years of time wehn they sit on their sofa's asking themselves why they aren't at korea or japan... why they damaged a record of being at every world cup, that their ancectors fought to keep... i don't know what the team needs to do to win, but obviously its not immpossible as aragentina have demnsotrated.... the fact of the matter is that if some seelctoirs go walking in brazils poor streets and look for some tennagers playing friendly soccer or maybe on the beach even.. well i guess they would play more organized with more rythym and more importantly.. more DIDICATION to the national team... i have to say.. what a waste of money on these brazil national stars playing in europe..
I say give ronaldo a chance,.. rommario.. even dunga .. enyone who can help brazil at this moment.... cuz obviuosly their plan is not working... not jsut beacuse of this argenbtina defeat, but because the performance just sucks, regardless of any SCORE in ANY match.. there is no shame in losing a soccer match if u performed well and did ur best.. but there is a great nations shame to win with some lucky shots and headers, let alone loss...

... and uruguay won so its all tied up for the 4th and 5th spots. and you know what 5th spot gets ? to play aust. in the play-off. i'd rather it be uruguay, against brazil i don't like our chances.
but imagine that, AUSTRALIA to knock brazil out of the WC for the very first time.
anyone see it happening ? i (unfortunately) don't. we'll need a miracle or 2 to get through ...

Ok, let's look at the facts here...
1) Argentina deserved the victory. Brazil didn't deserve a better result.
2) Brazil has fielded some guys who are really worthless. Cris, for instance, who scored Argentina's second goal. That guy has been object of criticism since his first call for the national squad. Almost everyone agrees he's not international material; almost. Scolari thinks he's good, so there you have it.
Eduardo Costa has the superpower of dividing opinions: Myself, and everyone who watched the game with me, felt he sucked hard. This morning I pick up the news, and his performance was rated as one of the highlights of the game. Something is wrong, and I think it's the reporter's eyesight. Eduardo Costa might amount to something, someday (he's only 21), but right now, DROP HIM! Please! For his own sake!
3) Killy Gonzalez and Ortega shone, but Argentina wasn't all brilliance either, mind you; If they were brilliant, they would have REALLY wrecked us. Vivas was pathethic all through the match, just violent and nothing more. Simeone failed to impress too, he was noticed more because of his complaints. And Burgos is crappy beyond words; seriously, isn't there ONE keeper better that him in all of Argentinian soccer?
4) Some of Brazil's players did actually well, like Rivaldo, Lucio and Roberto Carlos. Which only made me feel sorry for them: The squad is a mess, there's no fluence to the gameplay, we lack offensive options. Looking at Argentina's tight unit only made it stand out; which brings us to...
5) We're a long way from having a good team. We can win matches without one, but not a World Cup. So if we do achieve qualification, we can go to Japan/Korea, but I don't think we'll go very far. Maybe the quarterfinals, no more than that - unless Scolari really lives up to his reputation and manages to create a team where there was only a crowd in soccer jerseys.
6) And the final truth: We're paying for our own mistakes, we eventually WILL get out of this rut, but right now, this is where we are.
I applaud Argentina, I still believe in the qualification - even if we have to play Australia, which Argentina once did without so much worldwide attention to THEIR drama (this is what you get for being number one).:star: :star: :star: :star:

as i've said, i want brasil to advance cos it just wouldn't be right winning our 4th :star: without beating them in the process. but things are looking grim. and australia is not the way you'd wanna go in. with viduka and kewell they're very capable of pulling off the "upset". especially the way brasil look.

Well, you kids had better enjoy the moment. It's not likely to happen again - I mean, Brazil with a team this bad. The Argentinians were so happy for managing to beat us, do you believe their team actually ran 'round the field as if they were celebrating a trophy? Touching. Not losing to Brazil is their own little way of being champions. Isn't that sweet? :D
Better enjoy it while it lasts, that's what I say.
'Cause it's not gonna be forever. So if anyone wants their third or fourth stars, they better grasp the chance. Things may be different in the next WC...;)

"jingoism?" Enlighten me here, Sev. What does that mean?
Other than that, you're right, it in fact was one of the main reasons for this slump, yes.
But it's true anyway. We do have tons of talent surfacing on a daily basis, and that massive pool of talent is what keeps us on top, despite our disorganization. Now - and I know this is becoming a catchphrase - if we were organized, there'd be no competition at all...:star: :star: :star: :star:
Of course, that might never happen. :D :grumpy: :worried:

Well, I'd be disappointed if you guys weren't enjoying this!
I mean, SOMEONE has to enjoy Brazil these days... and it sure as hell isn't us Brazilians...;)
And I'm constantly impressed at the attention we get for our problems. Everyone else has had qualification problems, most have in fact been disqualified at some point, but when Brazil has a drop in performance, the whole world stops in awe.
What can I say? It's tough to be number one.

but you're not # 1 garrin. the team that posted the lob-sided victory over you in 98 are. LES BLEUS !!!
and jingoism is a term we use here in canada a lot when someone is exhibiting extreme chauvinism or nationalism. the latter applies to you of course.

Look. I freely admit to defeat; it's not a debatable point. We lost to France, we lost to Honduras, we lost to Argentina. Am I ashamed of these results? Only one of those beckons shame, and even in that case, I understand that soccer is always unpredictable.
Most everyone in the world has improved and the world game is catching up with us; a lot of Brazilians fail to recognize that the gap is way shorter than it was, say, 10-15 years ago. I think that is the main reason our national squad has been collecting poor results: the failure to recognize other nations' growth, soccer-wise. Having said that...
When I say Brazil is number one, I certainly don't mean the laughable Fifa Rankings; right here in WSB, I once said that Fifa's rankings are a joke. Brazil is number one because of this: If France (just to use your example) failed to qualify for WC '2006, would the whole world gasp in amazement and stop to watch Les Bleus falling? No. Would it be followed right here in WSB by numerous threads analyzing the French "decadence"? No. Would it be subject for discussions and news reports worldwide? No. Brazil is in a bad position at the qualifiers, at risk of even having to play the Australians in the extra playoffs - which Argentina once did, without worldwide awe. But when brazil is at that position, everybody stops and takes notice. THAT is the number one nation in soccer: The one whose record of excellence is so high, any hesitation or stumble is treated as a historical humiliation.
That is why I said Brazil is number one: Because the whole world looks up at us as number one. Sorry 'bout that. We hope to get back to our usual form, and to keep giving the world something to look up to. :D

Funny thing happened the other day at that game. In Somerville MA (Alot of Brazillians live there) a local pub/grille was showing the game and about 3,000 brazilians came to watch the game. (The place is pretty big). Well after about 20 mins, there was a blackout and they could not reconnect to the game. All the Brazillians paid 25 dollars to get in and wanted there money back , but they didn't give it back so they started a riot outside and inside the place until riot police came by to calm them down.
I know this has nothing to do w/ the game but it was a pretty big thing around here because I live about ten minutes from where the riot took place.
