yesterday we played against Asvel Basket in ULEB Cup to advance to the Top 16. In first game we drew 69-69 in France. Yesterday we played in Istanbul and we beat them 75-74 and advanced to the Top 16. : ) i were at the game and it was such a great atmosphere. (I even saw myself on TV lol) Now our rival is Kalise Gran Canaria from Spain.

How is Galatasaray doing in the league?

We are currently on 3rd place behind Beşiktaş and Efes Pilsen with 15 win and 6 loss (36 pts.)
But the league is very complicated anyteam can beat anyteam ;) We beat Bjk,Fb,Telekom (is a strong team) and just lost to Efes.
there are 9 rounds to go for the play-offs

They reached the semi-final in FIBA Euro Cup (2nd Important Cup in Europe). Today we had a game against Beretta Famila from Italy (first game of semi final). And we beat the opponent with the score of 63-55 and got an advantegous score before the game in Italy. Hope we'll reach the final ;)

This is the only season more than 2/3 teams are going for the championship. (they are Besiktas, Turk Telekom, Fenerbahce and Efes Pilsen, Pinar Karsiyaka and Antalya BSB (a new team this season) are good sides as well..

Efes Pilsen and Ulker were the two top teams in the Turkish league for many years (Eczacibasi was a top team as well but they closed their basketball section down), teams like Fener, Gsaray, Besiktas were fighting for a play-off place rather than fighting for the championship.

at the end of 2005/06 season Ulker shut down their Basketball section as well and became a sponsor of Fenerbahce, Ulker was already a sponsor of Galatasaray(Cafe Crown) and Besiktas(Cola Turka) before that.

Fenerbahce won the championship easily last season, we only lost 1 game in the play-offs and that was against Dacka (they are bottom side this season)

I hope you got some kind of an idea about Turkish Basketball :)

Fener- Will Solomon, Mirsad Turkcan, Damir Mrsic, also Omer Asik (young promising Centre)
Fener also have two ex-nba players Tarence Kinsey and James White (which are not so special in my eyes)

Gsaray- Robert Hite, Dee Brown, Fatih Solak, Huseyin Besok

Besiktas- Drobnjak, Kaya Peker, Apodaca, Dalmau

Karsiyaka- Gary Neal was a good PG, the top scorer in the league before he moved to one of europes top team Barcelona, Quinton Hosley

Turk Telekom- El amin, Muratcan, Haluk

Efes Pilsen - Kerem Gonlum

Galatasaray had been the most succesful basketball club if you compare against beşiktaş and fenerbahçe. But in general the most successful teams are usually company teams like Efes Pilsen, Eczacıbaşı, Ülkerspor, Tofaş ...
Galatasaray had some trouble with its basketball team in recent years (coz of our board) and we even played play-out not to relegate ! after that there has been some changes about basketball section and we slowly began to wake up. We brought Murat Özyer (former Ülkerspor coach who finished the season with championship) to coach position and spent a lil bit more money to basketball section. We aimed top 4 place in the league and we achieved it. This year we bought some experienced players and bought some ex-NBA players and american players who knew european basketball better. So expectations grew higher. We are in European competition after a long time and advanced to top 16. and we r doing ok in the league.
About our woman team, we had been the best team in this league without doubt. Till our board came and f*cked up everything. We even relegated from the 1st league :boo: But this year we build up a strong team and I think we'll play final with Fenerbahçe who has been the best lately.

Gsaray beat Gran Canaria 99 - 74 in the 1/16 finals and got a good advantage to advance to the 1/8 finals


btw. I see that there is a greek basketball section so I dont undertsand why there shouldnt be a Turkish section. ;)

The first half of the match was a head on but in the second half our team widened the difference and displayed a confident performance with the 17 points scored by Isil Alben and Esra Sencebe each.

Additionally Isil Alben played with 6 assists and 3 knock offs. During this match Galatasaray had 17 knock offs in total.

height:2.07 32 years old.
talented forward and a sharp 3 point shooter.Last year in the euroleague he bagged 15 points 5 rebounds adn 1 assist per game..He also is the all-time leading scorer in the ULEB cup with 21 points per game.He was in the Serbia squad in 2001 European Championship and the world championship.He is well known with his tattoo of WW2 Chetnik leader Draža Mihailović on his shoulder.He is also known for his violent behaviour in game action.

He was also in the squad of serbia in 2001 and world championship.He can play several positions at ease..verry versatile player.In 2004-05 Euroleague season he had outstanding statistics 20.1 points per game and 10 reb's per game.He's a pretty good rebounder.

Shooting Guard
25 years old.

Indıana Univercity graduate Marshall played 2 seasons for alpella.He has scored over 500 point's in TBL.He has 16.5 points 3.5 reb's and 3.8 assists per game in the TBL in the past 2 seasons.

23 years old.

Pittsburgh Univercity graduate Antonio had his first Europe experience with Pau orthez.capturing 20 points 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game..

Well we have Hüseyin at center,if he stays healthy well definetlly have a chance..last year there was no one to back him up..This year he has a good back up also a center Andrija Zizic,with 2.06 height and good rebounding skills.

Last year our guard Dee Brown was unable to direct the team at crunch time.Strickland is a question mark at this area..can he do a much better job? We'll have to wait and see..But if you ask me Strickland was signed ass a bench player,if TBL accepts him to become Turkish Citizen,then GS cafe Crown can sign another foreign player.

Our Forwards Milojevic and Gurovic are top class players,able to score and rebound..The only handicap is Gurovic sometimes looses control,he can end up in a fight real quick!

Antonio graves is a question mark aswell we have yet to see his abilities in TBL..But he's a scorer thats for shure!

To sum up,we have an expereienced squad,with bunch of talented players,players are physicall which will help us defend the zone..our guards need to direct the team well..İf we play good and systemized basketball we'll have a chance at 4-5-6'th spot in the league and probably advance from the Uleb cup groups..

GS signed the best PG in the league, Marshall Strickland. Looks like good transfers this season but let's see how the cetnik Gurovic plays alongside Croat Zizic. (although Zizic sounds like a serb name). But plays for Croat NT.

League hasnt started yet, and no GS have no chance at all. Maybe they can have a good regular season even finish on top but just like the past 2 seasons the winner of TBL is already known, Fenerbahce.

the weak team you call KK Buducnost is a team from montenegro..They play great ball..would probably beat any team in TBL..
Plus we all know that against Serbian,Montenegro and Russian basketball Turkish basketball is very weak..It's a hard fought victory..I'm suprised you are so confident with a win at the away game..

If yous cant manage to beat one of the weakest good luck against Kazan, Red Star, Aris and so on, let's not forget that GS was a semi finalist last season and now they've eben got a better side with Strickland and the Serbs.

First of all,none of Galatasaray cafe crowns players play in NT so that makes a big difference in case of experience at ULEB or Eurleague status..
Secondly,Montenegro is considered as continuation of Jugoslavia,along side with Serbia..So I dont think they have any difference from Kazan or Red Star..
Jugoslavian basketball is a school my friend,better respect all of the players who are out of that school..

I'm amazed that a handicapped team from Turkey can become champions. I mean in Turkey handicapped people are not all taken care of like here in America. They have like no respect for the handicapped in Turkey. The media should be ashamed of not publicizing this more.

I mean when a guy molests a sheep in turkey, its like on the front page and news report at night like its the most important issue ever but when it comes to great accomplishments like this, nada.

ESPN would have a field day with this if it was an american team, putting it on sportscenter, doing special documentarys for it and interviews. Going behind the scenes and etc... All our media cares about are sheep molesters
