I've been so self conscious about my ankle ever since I saw that, can't believe how his teamates felt, his life is football for gods sake and it could all be over now. Billions of people, myself included only dream about a chance to play at the highest stage, and when he gets his very well deserved opportunity he has it taken away from him. That guy that made the tackle shouldn't be allowed to step foot on a pitch ever again.

I know the injury to Eduardo is horrific and fans of Croatia and Arsenal will be devastated but Taylor's tackle is no worse than some others in the league this season - it was just unfortunate.

Imagine if Eduardo had moved his leg a few inches to one side and Taylor foot had just glanced his shin and did no damage? The Birmingham player would have rightly been sent off but nobody would be calling for this ridiculous 'lifetime ban'. For ****'s sake guys!!! He's just been beaten by pace and made a clumsy challenge - its not mallicious. He should serve a 5 match ban, be fined by the club for getting sent off and then be left in peace. He must be feeling distraught and the way some people talk you'd think he was a murderer...

Really? I saw a picture of him laughing at Eduardo after he did the tackle. The tackle wasn't malicious? He was a couple of feet off the ball and went in studs up. Maybe he didn't want to potentially end the guy's career but he wanted to hurt him. He wanted to send Arsenal a message at an early stage (intimidation).

Eduardo talks to arsenal.com after his operation.

“I am unsure at the moment of the extent of the injury and how long I will be out of action for but I know that I won't be able to play for Arsenal for the rest of the season or be ready in time for the Euros this summer.

"But I'm not worried about that. My concentration and determination is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury.

“I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at Selly Oak Hospital who carried out the operation on Saturday night. Everyone there made me feel as comfortable as possible.

"I would also like to say how touched I am by the many messages of support I have received and to be surrounded by my loved ones at this time.”

Eduardo - I am determined to overcome this injury
By Richard Clarke

Eduardo has given his account of the terrible events at Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Croatian, 25 on Monday, broke his leg following a challenge from Blues defender Martin Taylor in the third minute of the game at St Andrews. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery that night. The striker has since returned to a London-based hospital for further treatment.

Speaking for the first time after the incident, the summer signing from Dinamo Zagreb ruled himself out of the rest of the season and Euro 2008 in the summer however he added that he is 'determined to overcome this injury'.

“I don't remember the incident very well and it is not something that I want to see again on television or in the newspapers," said Eduardo.

"All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank. It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football.

I agree with paulthegooner, and Cambriafan, this is football. Shit happens. Its not a womans sport and such things are possible to occur. Taylor was aiming for the ball but Eduardo was quick to tap the ball to his right and Taylor hit his ankle. I don't think it would be fair to ban him since the guy didn't really did this intentionally. But goodness sake that is a terrible tackle! Is that his bone sticking out!? Shit, I got hit in the nuts real bad playing once, but this is superb. I am not sure the lad will be ever making a full recovery, but I wish him the best. Saddest thing here is that Eduardo will most likely miss Euro, and that is tragic recognizing the fact that he got Croatia there in the first place!

Atleast Mandzukic is a rising star for both Dinamo and Croatia along with Petric and Olic and Modric on midfield, Croatia aren't in such a bad situation, but I agree... keeping out Eduardo from the squad is a big impact... considering he scored alot of goals for Croatia in the qualifying and he brings spice and technique into the game and he scores with fashion.

13Ballack13
02-25-2008, 02:08 AM
this is a big loss for the Croatian NT i agree but i think dere are players dat could fill him in on his absence... during the qualifying he always provided Croatia with the opportunity to win games and send them to euro 2008.. this injury will be a big blow during croatia's group stage matches in euro 2008 because he provides extra spice to their NT and more hope of progressing out of it...

nb-legenda
02-25-2008, 02:55 AM
They have rising stars like Mandzukic and Kalinic... and Igor Budan's magic works sometimes as well (by the way, nice goal yesterday by him for Parma)... but Petric and Olic will lead the attack, while Modric will be the playmaker. Very tough team, Germany will have trouble with them in their group.

No Visit From Taylor - Eduardo

A conflicting report bound to cause incredible amounts of controversy has been issued by The Sunday Mirror, which claims Arsenal's Eduardo da Silva has stated that reports of Martin Taylor — the man who broke his leg — visiting him in hospital are false, and that the interview exonerating the player never took place...

In February, Eduardo was the victim of a professional foul that saw Martin Taylor sent off and the Brasilian-born Croatia international himself stretchered off with a double compound fracture.

It was a big injury and an even bigger news story, the clean break in the player's leg was almost horrific enough to have potentially required amputation had it not been for the swift action of Arsenal's medical team. Reports of Taylor's distraught reaction were rife and Eduardo was said to have accepted his apology with good grace and deemed the incident as 'just something that happens in football'.

However, now weeks since the emergence of those stories, conflicting quotes have been produced by The Sunday Mirror, who claim Eduardo received no visit from Taylor and that he had not offered any interview to English press since the injury.

"The story about Taylor visiting me was an invention — as was my 'interview' in the English press," the striker was quoted as saying on Croatian television by the Mirror.

There will no doubt be further statements released on behalf of players and clubs to determine just what the truth behind the matter is shortly.
---------------------

This means that...

Arsenal FC's injured Croatia forward Eduardo da Silva said there would "be no birthday celebrations at all" after he turned 25 today in a London hospital.

Horrible injury
The Brazilian-born player suffered a compound double fracture of his left leg in Arsenal's 2-2 Premier League draw at Birmingham City FC on Saturday, sidelining him for the rest of the season as well as for the summer's UEFA EURO 2008™ finals. He could be out of action for a year or more. "There will be no birthday celebrations at all," he said. "I don't need any special gifts. I have already received the most important one which is my family who are now with me. That's the most important thing for me."

No malice
Having undergone surgery, Eduardo was transferred from Birmingham's Selly Oak Hospital to an unnamed London clinic on Sunday to begin his recovery process. He has been quick, however, to underline that he bears no ill-feeling towards Birmingham defender Martin Taylor, who was dismissed for the challenge that broke his leg. "As far as I remember, Martin Taylor has still not been to see me but I was under sedation so who knows," he said. "If he does come, I will let him see me. I forgive him. I know it wasn't deliberate. These things happen."

'I will be back'
Concerns have been raised that the injury could mark the end of Eduardo's career but the player is trying his best to stay positive. "I am OK now," he said. "Nothing hurts any more but it hurt a lot on Saturday. I have not been thinking how long it might take for me to recover, but I don't have any doubt I will be back. Have no fear about that. I was scared when I saw how my leg was right after the injury but I can't say I was thinking about the end of my career. I was worried how everything would go in hospital but it was OK."

Busst advice
David Busst – the former Coventry City FC defender who suffered a similarly grim injury in a game against Manchester United FC at Old Trafford in 1996 – had comforting words for Eduardo. While Busst's injury curtailed his career at 28, he said that team-mates could be crucial in ensuring Eduardo's horror story has a happier ending. "They need to come and see him as often as possible in the short and long term," he said. "The worst thing would be for him to think he has been forgotten at Arsenal. He needs to know he remains a part of the squad and a popular member at that."

Croatia comfort
Croatia coach Slaven Bilić called Eduardo's injury "horrible", but if the striker's absence for UEFA EURO 2008™ represents a massive blow to the national team, the coach is more worried about his player's long-term well-being. "The most important thing is that he recovers and resumes his career," he said. Still top of the Premier League, Arsenal travel to AC Milan for the conclusion of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie on 4 March with the scores level at 0-0 from the first leg.
