Report: Driver was so drunk he should've been dead
Police say Branko Milicevic was very intoxicated when they stopped his car Tuesday on a highway in Bosnia
How drunk, you ask?
Well, if you believe the local cops, Milicevic blew a 0.6 when they tested his blood-alcohol content.
That's a staggering 20 times the legal limit of 0.03.
"I required that the alcohol breath-testing device be checked, but only to discover that it worked properly," police officer Damir Cutura tells AFP (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080214/od_afp/bosniacrimehealthoffbeat_080214183806;_ylt=AngNzqEuNASAks00bW0cMnas0NUE).
We're still a little skeptical. Multilingual readers can read more about this case in Fokus (http://www.fokus.ba/vidi.php?rub=8&vijest=8878), Dnevni List (http://www.dnevni-list.ba/?mdls=1&mdls_tip=2&nid=18988) and Nezavisne Novine (http://www.nezavisne.com/vijesti.php?vijest=19829&meni=6).
This calculator (http://www.onlineconversion.com/bac.htm) indicates that a 200-pound person would have to consume an entire liter of 100-proof liquor over two hours in order to produce a BAC of 0.60. A 100-pound woman who consumes 14 drinks would have a BAC of 0.63, according to this chart (http://healthyhorns.utexas.edu/education/images/alcoholdrugs/bac_women.jpg).
The Bosnian driver had what doctors describe as a "lethal dose" of alcohol. The University of Texas says (http://healthyhorns.utexas.edu/education/bac.html)that means: " You are probably in a coma. The nerve centers controlling your heartbeat and respiration are slowing down, and it's a miracle if you survive."
