Gradačac Northern Bosnia
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1368/1251898350_efa6c15426_b.jpg
The captains of the Gradaščević family led the development of the city, and the most famous of them, Husein-kapetan Gradaščević or Zmaj od Bosne ("Dragon of Bosnia"), led an uprising that raised to arms most of the Bosnian captains in 1831.
The town has a fort with 18-meter high walls built between 1765 and 1821, and a 22-meter high watchtower, built in 1824 by Husein-kapetan Gradaščević on foundations made originally by the Romans.

I love ancient cities.
Bosnia's a country with art. It's beautifully combined with modern, ancient, and natural wonders.... kind of like Greece. It sucks we don't have some islands :(
I've got to visit Mostar... the city is so homely, lively, and fun. Alot of things to see there. Brcko is also a great town. I like those small Bosnian towns like Brcko... they're so clean and look like toys hehe
Favorite city is still Sarajevo though...

Mostar is not too islamic it just has turkish middle-east traditions in the old city.
Haifia, Isreal looks old and middle-eastern but it is not too islamic as it is a Jewish town.

^ They're a combination of both, just like the best city in the world Munich, Germany. I think there's a law in Sarajevo where it has a limit in making huge skyscrapers and whatnot and not to affect historical sites just like in Munich, they have a law about that.
I think there's a law in Sarajevo where it has a limit in making huge skyscrapers and whatnot and not to affect historical sites just like in Munich, they have a law about that.
There is no law limiting investors on how high they can build, but there is a thing called "Urbanisticki Plan Grada Sarajeva" where every neighborhood, and every part of sarajevo is planned out by the city, and that plan can limit developers. Such as the new UNITIC 3 tower that is planned to be build some time in the next 2 years, originally was designed to be 130m, but the Urbanisticki Plan only allows structures up to 100m in that area, so the developers had to change their skyscraper to fit into that plan.
A lot of times it happens that plans are not fully obeyed, but when that happens the city fines the developer. Such as when the Turkish bank decided to change their plans for their building, which went against the "UP" then the city fined them and construction stopped. A lot of times "UP" are changed, such as the Raifaissen Banka building which was suppose to be 3 buildings consisting of 9-6-3 story buildings, ended up getting changed to 2 buildings, one being 12 stories the other 6...The city doesn't limit building height on purpose, sometimes its because of the nature of the soil, if it can support that type of structure, the location, also if its going to block out certain buildings then the height limit would be more strict, and instead of building up, developers build lower but wider... Hopefully this helped!
nb-legenda
06-05-2008, 09:41 PM
^ Yes that helped clearify things, thanks.
They did a great job planning for the Avaz tower than... its only out in the middle of a brick house neighborhood with no site of commercial development in site. As far as building wider, well there is more space to build taller than wider in Sarajevo and if the city puts that into law they aren't doing a whole lot to benefit the future development of Sarajevo, of course that can be argued.
And protecting the history of Sarajevo. I don't think so much if they allowed the Avaz tower to be build with the cheapest and ugliest glass they could find. Only major city that I know that limits highrise construction is Athens because of its historical sites and some other factors like seismic activity I believe.

Glass is just cheap from whatever way you look at it, from the engineering stanpoint, from the eye standpoint, and from the wallet standpoint. Avaz really rushed into making this just like they are rushing into the 2nd tower because ultimately Avaz isn't going to pay shit for this building but instead it will be the Bosnian taxpayers. It just pisses me off that they can pull something like this off because its just unbelievable that this is a legal road of corruption created by our shitty government. It seems that this is Avaz's way of staying alive as their whole existence has been based on political conspiracy.
And than just by the placement you can tell why they were in a hurry to make this. It sits off the side in residential zoning of Sarajevo really instead of in the heart of the commercial areas of the city. All just another reason why the Europeans can laugh at us and call us seljaci.

Well i dont see how you can comment on the engineering. I dont see anything wrong with it. I agree it could have been placed closer to the cbd next to the unitic towers but they didnt do that. Radoncic is a rich boy. He wants to make a awaz queen tower and an avaz tuzla tower aswell. lol.
Corruption. Well its corruption. Whats new...?
Here is what he wants to build now.

I don't mean the engineering of the building, I was talking about the glass. And engineering has nothing to do with the location of the building either, maybe soil conditions but that should be the same everywhere in Sarajevo.
As I said before Radoncic isn't making this with his money, he is making it out of the money from the pockets of your and my family living in Bosnia. It is public money, and its going to a private company, it shouldn't be legally, and he practically has the door open to him to excess the national bank and take all the money he needs.
Selling news papers in Bosnia will make you pretty rich for Bosnia standards but it will never make you rich enough to build multiple skyscrapers as you please. Nobody in the world does that, not even Bill Gates plays around with his money like that.. And for goood sake the New York Times, the largest paper in the USA and maybe the best selling in the world can't construct like that.
And if you are fine with corruption maybe we should just stay quite about the savez as well and let them get away with it?

I never said i was fine corruption. I was saying that corruption is everywhere. Theres not much we can do but watch. Id love for it to all end but you and i both know thats not going to happen
I believe with enough good people joined together it can end, but of course it well never totally end and we have a situation that is very bad with alot of room for improvement.

Go on the website Kalesija.ba for proof eg: statut opcine or dobro dosli u nasu opcinu.
also opstina and opcina mean the same thing - local council, a bit like most and cuprija which both means bridge.
I hope you have learned something:D

Ne Seri, moja djevojka je iz bosne.
Opcina is not just a croatian term, how can it be when KALESIJA is in Bosnia and there council is called Opcina Kalesija.
Imam jos jedan primjer za tebe: Opcina novi grad Sarajevo:D
Opcina is an all round Bosnian word and spoken by the most educated people whilst Opstina is an old word used by "seljaci". Also opstina is more of a Serbian word, i guess you will start calling me "brale" now lol.

Then why aren't you using it ? You have so much pride being a seljak that you even had the nerves to change your username to Ja Sam Seljak at one point in time. Not to mention you've been banned more times than I was so you have shit to say in Away from Football section about banning "kids".
