yeah... I can't believe how some people say American Samoa... whats wrong with them? in the 31-0 loss to Australia, American Samoa had more chances! They should have won 33-31 or something! Plus nicky, their best goalkeeper was missing! Not fair!

oh wait... nevermind... Nicky did play but look at wikipedia article:
Nicky Vitolio Salapu (born 3 January 1978) is a goalkeeper from the American Samoa national football team and he currently plays for Pansa East FC
He conceded 31 goals to Australia in a World Cup qualifying match and this score (0-31) still counts as the official world record. Some observers, however, actually praised his effort in the game and noted that he made many notable saves which prevented an even bigger score from eventuating.

Don't know why u keep saying that!!! It's not going to be that easy. Since joining AFC Australia has yet to prove themselves. The last Asian Cup just proved that they barely made it past the quarterfinal. They were getting too overconfident!! So i'm going to go for Qatar on this one.

Dont you think tht Australia would of learned from the Asian Cup? Not to meantion we went in there as favs to win which for first timers is a huge expectation and came up against Japan n only lost on penaltys.
Australia has to have a pretty poor game for Qatar to win
However because weve just got a new coach we dont have alot of time to prepare, i think Qatar has good odds if they play well and make sum good plays but im a 100% Aussie Fan GO THE SOCCEROOS!

Not going to be an easy game.
Its not a FIFA date game...you have to love the Asian Federation, having a world cup qualifier on a non fifa date!
Will be interesting to see on how many of the European clubs actually allow our players to travel all the way to OZ.

Australias main rivals in there group are China and Iraq hopefully Qatar is a walkover n we smash them 5-0, should be a great match!
let me give you my international team (Qatar) history against china and iraq in the qualifier history for world cup:
with iraq:
1982: one game 1-0 for iraq
1986: 2 games....first qatar won 2-1 ....second iraq won 2-1
1990: 2 games.... first qatar won 1-0 ... second tie 2-2
so we played against iraq 5 times... won 2 and lose 2 and draw once
with china:
1990: one game.. we won 1-0 in china
1998: 2 games.... in Doha draw 2-2.... in china we won 3-2
2002: 2 games..... in doha 1-1 ..... in china we lose 3-0 (it was the last game in the qualifier and because we couldn't go to the world cup we played with team under 23).
in the end: we played 5 times against china...... we won in 2 games and lose in once and draw two times

i hope the aussies will win but i think we shall have a fight on our hands... most of the players will be from the A- League and on top of that Qatar have recently just put threw brazillians on their nationality list so they can play for Qatar. its going to be a hard fought battel and in my OPion it will finish 1 - 0 in the favour of the Aussies only because they are at home

I was fairly angry when this happened. I have the belief that when you're playing a very weak and inexperienced opponent, you should do no more than what is necessary to win the game. Humiliating an opponent like this is just wrong. That Australian team seriously showed a lack of respect for American Samoa. The manager of that Australian team should have instructed his players to end the assault at some point in the game -- he lacked the human decency to do this.
Records can be broken, but not like this. This is nothing to be proud of for Aussie soccer/football fans.

Nicky Salapu should move to Manchester United or something... he has deep talent.
What does b- rabbit know about Uruguay ?
Their coaches are good and so are their players.
They've actually won two world cups (I know a long time ago)
Still their club level of playing is higher than that of the A-leauge.
Its sad but true, Australian football has a long way to go still. I spent a year in South America and I saw 9 games played in Monte Video. Two of which were national games (they played Paruguay and Brazil and won both convincingly) but what impressed me most was the club games.
As unpatriotic as it sounds I'd wager my money on a Urguguayan coach over an Australian coach...just not a Dutch coach
I'm an Aussie and I'll be going for them on wed night.
I think they should be favourites and will win.
I dont think Qatars team should be dismissed lightly and certainly not because they have a Urguguayan coach.

The A-leagues in its 3rd season now, of course its not gonna b like the EPL or the south american league or woteva
We are not a football nation yet, but if the A-league keeps going and we keep finding and creating players like Harry Kewell and the like then we could seriously become one

and your right there shouldnt have been a space in Montevideo and its prove not probe but who gives a fk really ?
I'm just saying its not going to be the cake walk some of you claim it to be.
Having a Uruguyan coach doesnt hurt Qatars chances any.
The lead up to this world cup puts Australia against some decent competition more Iraq and China but still Qatar isnt a given.

[B]Socceroos play 1-1 draw with Victory[B]
The Socceroos fought out a 1-1 draw against A-League side Melbourne Victory in a practice match at Telstra Dome.
The clash was the national side's only warm-up match ahead of Wednesday night's World Cup qualifier against Qatar at the same venue.
The Victory had easily the better of the first half, with Adrian Caceres knocking in a simple goal in the sixth minute to help Melbourne to a 1-0 lead at the break.
But the Socceroos improved considerably in the second half, with Archie Thompson capitalising on a Victory defensive error in the 70th minute to level the game.
Thompson had spent the first half on the bench and was one of numerous substitutes to come on in the second half.
The Socceroos side was made up mainly of A-League players, with most of the overseas based Australians expected to arrive on Monday.
But Socceroo Rody Vargas said it was still disappointing that they were unable to beat a club side so near to such a vital match.

Australia 2-0. A goal in the first 30min and the 2nd goal to come late second half
I think Qatar will play a tight defensive game and only have a few shots on goal. They have some good defenders and I'm guessing They'll start with 4-5-1 and maybe open up when they get desperate in the 2nd half and this is where australias 2nd will come from.

Verbeek normally just likes the one striker forward and I've heard its going to be either kennedy or McDonald most likely Kennedy . I'd prefer to see McDonald he has better match fitness and leads the score board in Scottish premier leauge.
Im staying with 2-0
A goal from either Kennedy or Mcdonald first half and another from a sub late second half either Aloisi or Thompson.
Its hard to say , we have a rough idea of who's playing but it hasnt been confirmed.

I think we lack in defence alot
Our attack is awesome but we always seem to muck up at the back and put a s*** load of pressure on schwarzer or whoevas in goals and then he has to make some awesome saves like the one he did v nigeria in london top class
Heard rumours Lucas Neil will most likely will wear the captains band, Tim Cahill and Brescanio will start on the wings and there shall only be 4 A-league players chosen from the squad of 32

I was off the mark with 2-0 and I was expecting Archie to get a run and put one in,that never happened either.
Australia steamrolled them in the first half. Not sure what happened second half though,It was a bit ordinary. I thought they'd be good for at least 1 goal second half given the first half performance.
Qatar composed themselves second half but it was a case of too little too late for them.
I thought all the Australians played well cept maybe McDonald, McDonalds been in top form lately and it wasnt his best game.
Overall they played well as a team and I can hardly wait to see em play China and Iraq.

^that sounds like an excuse...no matter how bad a team is, or if ur team is excellent, u never know how can it turned out.
Football is a lottery.
If Australia won, it wasnt just cause the teams r bad, but cause they have a team that is good enough to face an asian team

as pointless as who the best countries are japan being #1 is totally stupid.
when japan cannot even beat a 1 man down korea devoid of euro based players there is no way they are #1.
also, when australia begins to consistently win games let me know. beating qatar is a joke. when they consistently beat teams like korea, iran, saudi, or japan i'll be impressed. but so far all i've seen is those epl players like viduka and kewell losing to a japanese side that couldn't even beat a 1 man down korea.

True, but weve only just joined the AFC
I suppose we should really be doing better with so many players who play in high leagues in europe
Beating Qatar wasn't a joke
We didnt have as much time as they did
We had players arriving a few hours before the game started
We had a new coach as well
And we won 3-0
beating anyone be it american samoa or argentina is still a victory right?

Time to time man, like jelly said beating Qatar was no joke, every match counts on a WCQ
Dont understimate any country. Specially not Australia
