Theofanis Gekas, top scorer of Bundesliga and scored some important goals for Greecce. He's been outstanding and can still take another top scorers award this seaosn. Outstanding player. This is what I would rate them for 2007:
1) Gekas
2) da Silva (topscorer of Euro qualification, can't leave him out, bagged in couple of goals for Arsenal this season and has great technique)
3) Vidic (awesome defender and recognized as one of the best in the world, very valuable for Manchester United)
4) Berbatov (aside from an outstanding early 2007, he bagged in 4 goals right before 2008)
5) Barbarez (this guy was the main man for Leverkusen in dozens of games, he made the assists, he picked the teams pace up, and he also gave a couple of goals, awesome playmaker)
6) Vucinic (made some important caps for Roma, was key player in many games including the late 2007 CL games, scored a couple of goals for Roma this season and scored in almost every game for international scene for Montenegro)
7) Adrian Mutu (solid in air and ground, scored alot of goals and handed himself an award of one of the most valuable players in Serie A, without him Fiorentina wouldn't be where they are now in the table)
8) Pandev (scouted by alot of teams including Bayern, scored alot of important goals for Lazio both in league and CL, main man for the win against Bremen and scored goals against Real, some points he scored 2 or 3 goals in a game)
9) Handanovic (great goalkeeper, has to be one of the most solid goalkeepers Slovenia ever had, and one of the most valuable in Serie A, great at air, loyal, reflex machine, solid, and no mistakes, just what a goalkeeper should be)
10) Cana (sorry, I didn't think he was best of Albania in 2007, there are a couple of other better Albanian players in 2007...he was very good though)

1) Da Silva - immense for Croatia and starting to make an impact at Arsenal
2) Vidic - solid, one of the best centre halves in the league
3) Mutu - due to the number of goals with Fiorentina recently
4) Berbato - not prolific enough for me but such a quality finisher

hey no love for the bosnian Sergej Barbarez?
he is one of the top rated players in the bundesliga (he was top ten for most of the year - he has dropped to 12th now)
he also has also been selected as the best forward in german bundesliga for the first part of the 2007-2008 season by the german kicker

What seperates Barbarez from most of the players here (Muto, Berbatov, etc.) is that he is very consistent and always impresses in games... whether its assisting, scoring, etc. unlike Berbatov who doesn't score for years and then all of a sudden unexpectedly he scores 4 goals in a game. Vidic, Barbarez, and Gekas are the most useful players in this list.

well we are just comparing them for this season but if we are comparing them on "who is the better player" then forget about it
Barba is better than all of them combined and plus other 10-20 players from balkan

^ oh heh well of course! he's better than Vucinic, Berbatov, Pandev, etc. but maybe he's tied with Eduardo. I don't know abour Vidic, I think he's the best but then again he's one of the best in the world so there's nothing bad in that sentence! Barbarez and Vidic are too consistent, thats why theyre so damn good.

i think you guys forgot though how great Cana is. hes captain of Marseille and has played almost every game for Marseille since 2005. he's 24 years old. i know he hasnt achieved much praise or anything because his talent is overshadowed by the goals coming from strikers but hes great. i have respect for him, hes awesome player. atleast hes consistent, i would put him above Berbatov, Mutu, Pandev, Vucinic, and Handanovic actually (only because hes consistent while Mutu, Berbatov, and Vucinic play good when they are in the mood to...) .... my new list would totally be distorted lol forget about the one i typed up!

1. da Silva - As someone mentioned his been outstanding for Croatia, and peforms and scores for Arsenal, defiently a player to watch for the future.
2. Barbarez - Even if he is coming to the end of his career he isn't slowing down, another great season from the midfield maestro. Been Bosna's best player in my opinion and a shame his retired.
3. Pandev - Great Champions League campaign, solid season for Lazio and a matter of time when he will move to another club.
Barba or Da Silva (in my opinion)
6. Mutu (but didn't he use steroids or something lol)
it was cocaine lol

Dude looking at the list..Anyone that didn't vote for Vidic is a complete hater..The man did more than any one of these players... EX: HE MADE THE 2007 TEAM OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who else did that out of those players...god u hating people... Go home and learn something about football..
Da Silva would come in Second...Third: Pandev...He is also the future best player out of all these names mentioned...
Barbarez is a dead footballer..He will be retiring soon....... If you are going to mention him then you might as well mention Darko Kovacevic or all those other old player.....
I think best youth player from Balkan this season def has to be Ivan Rakitic...
Krkic is a traiter and he isn't considered part of the balkan so he didn't win.....
Rakitic is going to be a star in future...I'd put Jovetic right behind him..He still has some maturing to do but we will see what becomes of him in about 2-3 years..

hahaha, as you said before, you don't track Bundesliga and you obviously don't know how good Barbarez was for Leverkusen this season. In 13 league games, he scored 4 goals and made 11 assists! Without him, Leverkusen wouldn't be so high  not to mention his UEFA cup heroics as well. I do understand you like Vidic and all and I was the one who said Vidic is best and then Barbarez. One thing though, did it make sense to place Pandev over Barbarez?? Pandev was very inconsistent. He wouldn't score for 10 games, and then he goes on scoring 2 goals. btw: don't take this too seriously... obviously this thread is biased because people will choose players from their own country.
Saying Barbarez is dead is an absolute joke. Age was no barrier for him this season around.

Ok, but you can't compare him with Vidic my friend..Just cuz he is Bosnian..If you put this article anywhere else in teh world.. trust me they would laugh if you put Barbarez in front of Vidic..
A: they would say who is Barbarez..
B: Vidic won 2007 team of the year..I think thats enough for him to win
C: He plays for the best team and in my opinion the best and most consistant league against teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea...Who have amazing strikers..
Vidic is the most feared defender out there...
I give credit to Barbarez..He's a great player..but he comes nowhere near to Vidic..If you are going to say well I voted for Barbarez because he's Bosnian..then just say it... but don't sit there and say I voted for him because he is the best out of all of them because thats a total lie... Vidic, Pandev, and Da Silva have done a whole lot more than he has this season.....I'm probably the most real person here...
If vidic didn't win 2007 Team of the Year award..Da Silva would be number one on my list...

Pandev has 12 goals in 22 games and 4 assists...The season is still not over...
He could have had even more goals..
Everyone voting for their own countrymen..Why would you do that???
Then there is no point for this thread because everyone will vote for their own guy... Even if he isn't the best..
I'm probably the most objective guy here..
I never said Nermin that you didn't say vidic was the best..I have a lot of respect for you because you're one of the few honest people...

1) fact EPL is the MOST POPULAR league in the world is why Vidic is so popular. if Kuzmanovic was going to be compared with a Brazilian named Roberto from Serie C of Brazilian league, everyone would say Roberto. yeah that's how it goes in this world, zalostno....
2) I voted Gekas because HE WAS the most impressive this year.
3) now tell me... what did Pandev do in first half of 2007? now is he consistent??
4) i respect you and all, but it's obvious that with you, we can't compare a midfielder with a defender. its almost impossible with you

That should be enough to win in this thread...
Tell me why a player that made " team of the year for 2007"
I keep repeating because you guys keep ignoring
Why didn't he win this forum..
He was player of the month for Man U a couple months ago...
Behind Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo he is their 3rd most valuable player..
These facts aren't comming from my mouth but from all the news articles i've read in the past...
What has Pandev done??
If it wasn't for him..Lazio would be at the bottom of the food chain..
Again, He's scored 12 goals in 22 games and 4 assits.....That is not enough for you??
Its more than .5 goals per game.......
He was injured a couple of times..So if you are talking about inconsistancy thats why...
He played through his injuries a lot...
If he played for a better team...Where they knew how to cross the ball in for him..
He would be scoring goals every game..
Thats why he would fit soo much better in German League and thats why Bayern Munich is in love with him..

but when we are talking about year 2007 he is also better there he is top rated player in Germany and was named the best striker by kicker
people vote for players they think had a better season - I think Babra had it so I vote for him same goes for rest of the people who choose their picks

I din't say he is better than Pele or Dajic
I'm saying he did better than people on the list so far in the seasons and he is a better than all those players on the list
more skillfull, better scorer, better passer and better defender if he wants to be
this is how I voted on who was the best balkan player in 2007
post #7 (http://forums.soccerfansnetwork.com/showpost.php?p=924274&postcount=7)
Barba or Da Silva (in my opinion)
I would go like this
1. Da Silva
2. Barba
3. Pandev
4. Gekas
5. Vidic
...
6. Mutu (but didn't he use steroids or something lol)
btw I'm not the only who is not thinking outside the box - If you knew the player Barbarez is and you followed his career you wouldn't be putting him down so much and you would understand why he is the top rated player in germany, top rated striker, and why he was named the best striker in the first half of bundesliga and why so many people from the footballing world admire him so much
DelijaZauvjek
01-05-2008, 05:58 AM
I'm not putting him down..
As i've said already in this thread..
Barbarez is a great player!!!!!!!!
But he is nowhere near where Vidic is...
A: A: A: Vidic plays for Man U..
End of Story..
If Barbarez was so good this season he would be playing for a better team.... He's making less money..
Vidic won 2007 team of the year.....
How is that not an automatic winner..Tell me Sinter..
Answer that one question..Give me something that Barbarez has accomplished more than getting a team of the year award... Because he hasn't...Thats a major accomplishment and that is why vidic this year is the best on that list..
He is the best defender this year in the whole world..
This isn't comming from my mouth as I always say..
It comes from other peoples opinions..Ordinary people and proffesionals...
Vidic is the most feared defender and the most hard working..he is improving every year and is right behind Ronaldo and Rooney for 3rd best player on the team according to Sir Alex Ferguson...
So now tell me what awards Barbarez has won this year..
Name em........
Centarfor9
01-05-2008, 06:08 AM
he is the top rated player in bundesliga, kicker named him best forward midway through
he has been one of the best forwards in german bundesliga for years - winning the top scorer one year and getting close other times
he has played and scored goals numerous times in UCL, Uefa Cup - any team he goes to he carries the team and it's the main guy - he is the player people expect him to carry a team
skillwise on who is the best player not just this year but in general goes to Barbarez by far - he is the total player - he can defend, he can score he is one of the best playmakers there is - nobody can compete with him - his career speaks for himself
Vidic 3rd best on a team? Barbarez is the best forward in Germany and 12th rated player in bundesliga (he was in top 10 for most of the year)
none of these players can compete and say they are better players - like I said Barbarez has more skill in one toe than all those players would that be defending, scoring, playmaking (passing) or leading a team
his preformances this year are one of the best for any balkan player (the best or second to Da Silva) nobody else played better

Yeah he is way better than Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose...hahahahhahah
Wow please say it again so I can be amused. Dude you are sooo hilarious keep me laughing..
The best team he's ever played for was Bayer Leverkusen...
They aren't even close to the best team in Germany haha...
Vidic just signed a 4 year contract with Man U again.........
Man U...Do you not understand that Man U would beat Bayer Leverkusen in a match 8-0.....He has 5 goals in 2 years at Bayer..... 0 goals this year and 1 assist
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergej_Barbarez
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=10183&cc=5901
Who are you kidding dude..
Vidic has more goals than he does haha he's a pure Center Back....... haha
Go home dude!!...
I can name 1,000,000 that are better than Barbarez... Muslimovic is better than him hah
Misimovic and Dzeko are better than him in the past two years...
He has done nothing this year........Absolutely nothing.. He plays for a middle team..He is on the bench almost every game..
Vidic plays the full 90 minutes for Man U!..Once again MAN U!.......... He is their most valuable defender...They are in the top two clubs in the whole world..
Please stop embarrasing yourself..
Until Barbarez gets team of the year award.. He is nothing compared to vidic...
So, stop embarrassing urself with this talk..Stop living in the past..
Barbarez was...and I repeat was a good player... He's dead now..... his game has died.. He has no more energy........He's out of shape...

now you have no love for him that is your opinion and go by it but Barba is by far the better player

Thats what both Espn and Wikipedia say...
They both can't be wrong with the same exact stats hahah..
Bay far the best player....... lmao
Dude reply why is his rating on fifa soo low.. If he is soo darn good???
Why do Klose and Toni have more goals in one half of a season than he does in the last 4 years haha...............
Tell me again........ What award has he gotten that is worth more than Best Defender of the year and Team of the year award..
Remember this is the best 11 players of the whole season!!!!!!!!!! come on man......stop kidding urself.......
Barbarez has done nothing.. He's been on the bench almost every game this season..
He comes as a sub..
Maybe you should watch his games..
He comes in the 70th minute and really does nothing..
Vidic plays the whole 90 mins and he owns the game..
You would probably say that Barba at the age of 90 is better than a 20 year old.. haha
Look at what you are typing man... and stop making me laugh.....
lol@ namecalling..
Stop trying to find excuses to ban me just because i'm right..
Put this poll anywhere else in the world...
and see how many votes vidic gets...
Barba would get 0..or maybe 1 or 2 from the Bosnians because you guys don't care about talent..Just your countrymen.........
Man U> Bayer
Team of the Year and best defender> Sub
26> 36
almost same goal record and barbarez is a forward and Vidic is a CB.....
Vidic> Barba
Anyone else normal in the world who knows anything about football would say that Vidic is better...
If we are gonna get all nationalist then fine Pantelic has more goals this season than Barba has had in 2 seasons............
Pantelic has saved his team on many occasions..........
and he is a true forward..He scores goals..
you can't be a true forward but not score goals... Who makes assits being a forward... with 4 goals in 2 years lmao..Come on this is hilarious.......

Why hasn't Barba ever played for a better club than Bayer if he is sooo good..
Vidic plays for man U since 2006 and is gonna be there until he retires....

Come on man....Lets put it this way... Man U would never trade a quality player of Vidic for Barba........................
Don't give me an article from Bosnia because I won't even read it..
It has to be either German or In English ty =D
Here I have two question and please just answer them for me =D.. Don't try to get around them like all the other times i've asked......
Why hasn't Barba ever played for a better club than Bayer if he is sooo good..
Vidic plays for man U since 2006 and is gonna be there until he retires....
Second, What has Barba won that is better than 2007 Team of the Year?!?!?
Answer please.. Honesty counts...
You can't trick my by saying Barba won best player of the year award because I won't buy it.. =D
I'm quoting at least one of these :D
I already told you all you need to know - now go look at some of those posts and it wouldn't hurt to revisit your posts and what you said in those :D

And you never really answered my two questions...
Because they don't have a good answer......
It would just prove that you are wrong....
Don't get me wrong.. I love Barba.. I think he is a Bosnian legend...
But he is not even close this year to Vidic... Not even..

1) Delija... you call Sinter ignorant, but you say Barbarez was bench most of the time. He is the most valuable and BEST player in Leverkusen in 2007. BETTER THAN SCHNEIDER. He's solid, consistent, quick, accurate passing, accurate at the goal, 11 assists/4 goals in only 13 games. all Vidic knows is defending and a little bit of heading on goal.
2) Saying Vidic is best defender is the world is ignorant.
3) Saying Vidic is far better than Barbarez is one of the most ignorant comments the world has ever seen.
4) Why should he give you an English one? The English said Woodgate was the best defender in the world just 3 years ago and he made what 1-3 caps for Real Madrid in a season?? puahahahahha!!!!
5) What did Klose and Toni do except tap ins? Barbarez worked his way to the goal. He impressed the crowd. He's one of the most valuable players in the world. He does everything, passes, crosses, shots, heads, and he's so accurate at each.
6) What you say, Leverkusen isn't anywhere near best in Bundesliga? Yeah, they are 4th now in Bundesliga and they topped UEFA cup group. UEFA only recognizes players who play in CL.
7) lol if Ibrahimovic was in this list, he would win every year till he retires. he is after all in the UEFA top 11 isnt he? and yet he's not even a candidate for player of the year in 2007... neither is totti who is also in UEFA top 11!! and you think UEFA is always right.
8) you contradict yourself many times. its hard to tell when you're honest.

Delija thinks whoever plays in a club like Manchester United or Chelsea should automatically win the vote. Vidic was great and all, but he wasn't anything special. Care to explain why UEFA top 11 strikers Totti and Ibrahimovic aren't even in the list of 30 candidates for UEFA player of the year? Oh and top 11 are ALL Champions League players. Vidic can only defend and he's really great at that, but Barbarez can do ALL but he does midfield so good, attacking so good, and defending decently. He's not average at any position, he can play ANYWHERE and he's VERY GOOD at every position.
Oh and you said if you play at Bayern, you get more crosses and passes and stuff... and yet you say Podolski is better than Dzeko. Dzeko plays in Wolfsburg where you don't get as many passes as you do in Bayern and Podolski still scored ZERO goals (playing 11 games, starting 5 and all in all 440 minutes and no goals, Dzeko a 660 and 5 goals)! You contradict yourself many times, it's hard to understand what you are trying to say.

but barbarez is right behind him!
Wait, Barba didn't even have the best year in Germany.. Look at Marko Panetlic who was competing for the goal title last season and the first few months of this season.
This poll doesn't even have the 10 best players from the Balkans and its controvesial what most country there has as its best..

Dude are you kidding about this still...
Podolski has 24 goals in 44 games for his national team- (GERMANY WHICH IS A HUGE COMPETITION FOR STRIKER POSITION)...
Dzeko is not even close to that many goals..He will probably in his whole lifetime score about 24 goals... Thats just a fact...
Podolski is 22 years old. He won 2006 Fifa World Cup young player award.. He plays for a better team...And yes it matters if you play for a better team..because obviously there is higher competition for your position and you have to work a lot harder to mantain your position.......I'm not going to argue about Vidic anymore because obviously nobody wants to be realistic.........
Watch when Podolski leaves Bayern and goes to a team like Juventus or another big club like that..Watch how many goals he will be scoring =D...
And actually he's only played three games this season in uefa cup plus 1 sub game where he came on in the second half and didn't get many chances.. and has 2 goals..but yeah thanks for your false information =D

he scored most of those goals against weak teams - he scored 4 against San Marino, 2 against Slovakia, 1 against Ireland and one against Cyprus if I'm not mistaking
at the moment Dzeko and his form is the better than Podolski
DelijaZauvjek
01-05-2008, 11:10 PM

You go and score 4 goals against san marino..
I bet you Dzeko can't score 4 goals against San Marino.........

5 goals in 12 games isn't nothing dude!!
If we are talking then........
I can name 20419040912491 other players who've done better...
come on be realistic
for example..Marko Pantelic has more goals than Dzeko this season???
But Podolski is way better than Pantelic...
So how can Dzeko be better than Podolski???
or
Darko Kovacevic has 17 goals in 18 games this season for Olympiacos...He scored another 2 today to take his team to the top of the league..
He is single handidly carrying them to the top..Not only in the greek league but the Champions League..Where he has 3 goals as well..
The most was 5 goals by C.Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic...
Kovacevic is having a better season than Barbarez..........
But still Kovacevic is not a better player than Podolski.........
so how can Dzeko be better???

Podolski
Bundesliga appearances: 11 (5 started) / 0 goals
Hitzfeld is giving him too many chances. He just can't score even if it is from a meter away (and yes he missed those like 3 times already, and I know because I watch Bayern on SopCast).
Dzeko
Bundesliga appearances: 12 (9 started) / 5 goals
----------
Add to that, Podolski plays in Bayern, where he will get ALOT of chances. Dzeko plays in Wolfsburg, one of the badder teams in Bundesliga and yet he scores, and those aren't tap ins, those are skill, balance, etc. one example:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6sBqKsDqB0s
What does Podolski have? And yeah most of his goals in World Cup and Euro were tap ins. Where's his skill? All he has is speed and he can hit the ball hard. He has NO accuracy, NO knowledge, and his creativity is terrible for professional level and he lost stamina considerably after his injury. At this moment, Dzeko is FAR better than him. Maybe not last year, but this year Dzeko is FAR better than him. Podolski seems to always lose the ball up front even when he plays against lowly teams like Hansa Rostock. http://youtube.com/watch?v=uypiQrVY2Iw <<< that's perfect example... look at 1:22. of course if he is as good as you say he is, he shouldve done something else with the ball, either with chest, redirect the header, back header, etc.

dude, its Dzeko's hard work, creativity, skill, balance, speed, stamina, etc. that's owning Podolski. Podolski lacks all of these for professional level on second half of 2007. Dzeko creates space, he makes intelligent passes, he thinks outside the box, he knows when to shoot and when to pass, and when he receives the ball, he always does something useful with it. This year, Podolski did nothing. He always lost the ball, his accuracy from 5 meters is worse than the worst player in my U17 team. His stamina is very weak and he gets tired at 70th minute and gets subbed. His speed is terrible and he never wins the ball in 1 v. 1. now don't get me wrong, Podolski was great last year, but this year, Dzeko is FFAAARRR better than him. and goals don't count man, ALL the 5 goals Dzeko has scored were SKILL, against Turkey goal was SKILL, his assists were SKILL, and he plays very intelligently. Podolski plays without a mind. He should move to EPL.

Sinter you are overating this Barbarez guy alot. Barbarez is very talented but its ignorant to say that Barbarez "is better than all of them combined and plus other 10-20 players from balkan". Barbarez may be the best player according to you in that list but to say that he is better than all of the players in that list combined shows that you are ignorant of the talent, the success and the capabilities of the other players in that list. Besides Gekas has been an amazing player these past few years and was the top scorer of the Bundesliga last year with a very small team such as Bochum. Howevor as good as Gekas is, I wouldn't say he is the best Greek player we have.

yeah I chose Gekas as best haha :) he's a scoring machine. He's a great finisher, but yeah he's not the best in Greece because he mostly does tap ins, he hardly ever scores from far out. This is why players like Torres and Tevez are ranked above Klose and Toni.

now where in the blue hell did you see "can't" in this sentence. haha you made an essay on how i said "podolski can't hit the ball hard" when in fact i said "All he has is speed and he can hit the ball hard". in fact, his power shots is what i remember him best at! i cant believe this.... truly im without words...... its almost impossible to decipher WHAT your problem is... unbelievable. you frame me for something i have never said. i think along with frings and schweinsteiger, podolski has the HARDEST shot in german national team.
but speed and power shots is all podolski has. and i watch him every time germany plays. germany is my third favorite team in the world. i SAW podolski play in world cup 2006 in allianz arena against costa rica and against italy in dortmund. and i dearly remember his penalty kick against argentina... the hardest inside of the foot shot ive seen in a penalty.

I never said Serbia has "the best"..I said they have "one of the best defences" in the world...
You can't argue with that..With our wide range and variety of Defenders.
Branislav Ivanovic, Nemanja Vidic, Slobodan Rajkovic, Dusko Tosic, Antonio Rukavina, Milan Stepanov, Aleksandar Kolarov, Milan Bisevac, Gojko Kacar, Dusan Andelkovic, Ivan Stevanovic, Marjan Markovic, and many others..these are just some that play for the bigger clubs...
We have mediocre strikers..but thats only because we concentrate on our defenders soo much...
Serbia still plays and uses the same old yugoslavian tactics and gameplay...

Kacar has always been a defender...... lol

but he is not sure yet if he wants him at defense..
For Serbia he played as a Defender..
on the youth and A team.
lol......you didn't say Bosnia is the best verbally but you were thinking it by saying Bosnia can get second or even top their group in the world cup.......
Right now thats a little perposturous..
But theres still a lot of time till summer so who knows..
but they won't top their group thats all I know for sure..
Just like Serbia won't top theirs...
They might not even get second..
We'll see how Romania does against Italy, France, and Holland..

DelijaZauvjek

lol ok Sinter laugh it up..
Like I said we were missing two defenders at the time..and one was Vidic..
and they weren't a world class defense??
Yeah thats why the press gave them the nickname the "famous four"..
because they didn't conceed goals..
Then when Vidic was gone..it just totally messed us up..
If Vidic was there we would have never lost 6-0..
Garuntee..
We probably wouldn't have won..but def not lost that bad...
Whats amazing is our defense now is better than it was in 2006........
I think Ivanovic, Tosic, Stepanov, Rukavina, Rajkovic ;) and a whole bunch of other young players gave it that huge boost...
Along with Krstajic, Drugatinovic, and Vidic... ;)
To say that we don't have one of the best defenses in the world is nonsense....
but whatever keep hating.. ;) hehe

Tosic has offensive vision..
Like Ivanovic as well
Drugatinovic isn't sucking lately..In fact he's been playing great for his team...
idk how well he would do with our Serbian lineup and how well he would fit in..
but he has been playing the full 90 mins for his club and has saved a lot of goals in the matches I watched lately..
But Vidic was in the team of the week again.
This guy just never stops amazing lol....
Ivanovic is still the best defender in Russia.....
Tosic has been such a great force for Werder Bremen.....
He just needs to work on his one-on-one defense.....but team wise defense he is great..
Rajkovic is a player to watch out for..
Chelsea wants him back really soon because he has been impressive for PSV Eidenhoven lately.....and they have a lot of defenders injured or suspended.....
Rukavina just got signed with a new club for 2.5 million euro..Not much but he is a good defender ;)....
Stepanov is probably the biggest in muscles and is extremly strong.. haha
I wouldn't mess with him..
and Krstajic is the same ol Krstajic..
He does what is needed for the club...
Except for the drinking with Rakitic hahaha

Sergej Barbarez made no secret of his dismay when Hamburger SV, the club closest to his heart, declined to extend his contract in summer 2006. Most observers concluded that one of the Bundesliga's few remaining characters would quietly wind down his career away from the media glare, but the tempestuous striker typically opted to confound the critics instead. Now in his second season with Bayer Leverkusen, the 36-year-old is poised to add the crowning glory to a unique and often moving career.
The Bosnian requires just five more goals to become only the fifth foreigner to pass the 100-goal mark in German top flight football, joining an elite currently comprising Giovane Elber (133), Stephane Chapuisat, Ailton (106 each) and Claudio Pizarro (100). Barbarez, adored by fans for his down-to-earth authenticity but frequently castigated from the press box for a perceived lack of workrate, is the second-highest Bundesliga scorer still playing in the German top flight after Germany superstar Miroslav Klose (106 goals).

"Every day, I still look forward to seeing how I measure up against 20-year-olds," smiles the seasoned pro, who sports striking blonde hair at the present time, affording him a slightly more youthful appearance. With every passing year, Barbarez' level-headedness and experience have increasingly become the hallmarks of his game. After 314 appearances in 15 Bundesliga seasons, he is an undisputed chief among men and a major contributor to Leverkusen's recent run of seven wins in their last eight matches, propelling Bayer to fourth in the Bundesliga and comfortably easing them into the UEFA Cup Round of 32. "He's a genuine leader," Bayer 04 managing director Wolfgang Holzhauser has declared.
Strengthened by adversity
Barbarez watchers are aware that the unceremonious manner of his departure from HSV only served to stoke the fires of ambition in the autumn of his career. The Bosnian developed into one of the Bundesliga's star names during six glorious years in Hamburg, a city he would like to make his home after hanging up his boots, but the club undertook a major team rebuilding exercise 18 months ago and the former Bosnia-Herzegovina international was deemed more or less surplus to requirements. "It was the most extraordinary day of my life. Every part of me was moved in some way. It was like being suspended between heaven and earth," he recalled in a kicker magazine interview, reviewing the day when contract negotiations with Hamburg finally and irrevocably broke down.
The multi-faceted player emerged stronger for the experience, driven on by defiance, towering ambition and his passionate heart. Refusing to accept HSV's implied slight on his age, he overcame a tricky settling-in period to assume a pivotal role in an emerging Leverkusen side. The man capped 48 times by his country, currently on four goals and three assists this term, has stamped his unique authority and style on the Rhineland outfit's game. Barbarez' finely-honed ability to read the play spares him the need to cover huge amounts of ground but still places him in the right place at the right time. Respected former coach Udo Lattek once described him as one of the best footballers he had ever seen, another reason the fans are prepared to forgive a certain aloofness and arrogance in his approach.
No fan of long-term plans
"I wasn't as bad as I was made out to be back then, and I'm not paying much attention to the chorus of praise right now," advises the veteran, drawing on his long experience of the highs and lows of the professional game, and a strong awareness of the futility of long-term planning as a player. Indeed, his stellar Bundesliga career only came about as a result of coincidence and circumstance a full 16 years ago.
Barbarez, who has a street named after him in his home town of Mostar, was vacationing with an uncle in Hanover when civil war engulfed the Balkans at an alarming pace. Young Sergej's father insisted he remain in Germany, where the gifted youth reported for a trial with Hanover 96 and was immediately offered a professional contract. He had a brief spell with Union Berlin before switching to Hansa Rostock and then Borussia Dortmund, although his opportunities were to prove limited under then boss Michael Skibbe, ironically the man now at the Leverkusen helm. Barbarez finally made the breakthrough after moving to Hamburg, topping the Bundesliga scoring charts with 22 goals in 2000-2001, before the arrival of Rafael van der Vaart as a new figurehead in summer 2005 signalled the end of the Bosnian's relationship with HSV.
Coach of the future?
An extraordinary career with its roller-coaster ups and downs has left an indelible impression on this child of the Bundesliga. This remarkable character was an enthusiastic and committed supporter of efforts to promote the game back in his home country, but a falling out with the local association prompted him to end his international involvement in 2006.
Barbarez has by no means given up on the idea of coaching in his home nation at a later date, as he revealed to Die Zeit. "I hope to realise my dream of standing on the touchline at some point. Football is everything in Bosnia. A successful national team would put a smile on people's faces in this difficult economic situation." However, Barbarez has other fish to fry for the time being, as he pushes on towards membership of the Bundesliga's 100-up club.
