Novo agrees new Rangers contract

Rangers striker Nacho Novo has ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year deal at Ibrox.

The Spaniard, 28, had indicated he would consider leaving the club if they did not increase their initial one-year contract offer.

"It's something I always wanted. I'm pleased the club has given me the chance as well," Novo said.

Novo's deal was due to expire in the summer and he would have been able to speak to interested clubs in January.

But the forward, who signed for the Ibrox club in 2004, has agreed a new deal with manager Walter Smith.

"Everybody was happy with me and obviously the fans have been fantastic since I've been here," said Novo.

"I want to stay here and try to finish my career here. I love this club and I'll try to do my best for it."

Smith said he was delighted Novo had agreed to extend his Rangers career.

"He wants to play for Rangers and he's popular with everyone here," said the manager.

"I'm delighted to have him for the next couple of years anyway. He's always contributed since I came here. He's got a terrific attitude."

Novo signed for Raith Rovers from Huesca in 2001 and scored 20 goals in his first season before moving to Dundee for £100,000.

He has struggled to establish himself in the first-team this season ahead of Daniel Cousin and Jean-Claude Darcheville.
