League Managers' Association vice chairman Frank Clark has expressed his disappointment with the Football Association over the appointment of Fabio Capello as England boss.

Clark accepts that Capello has a proven track record and expects the Italian to do well in the role.

However, he believes it sends out the wrong message to young English coaches that the FA are prepared to look overseas for their own national team manager.

Clark told Sky Sports News: "It is a major disappointment to us that the Football Association, the governing body of the game, considers there are no English coaches of sufficient quality even to get on a shortlist of five.

"That is particularly disappointing and worrying really for the future of the game.

"We have no complaints with Capello getting the job in one respect. His CV stands up against any coach in the world, so from that point of view you can't argue with it.

Disillusioned

"But it is the FA's development programme that all our young coaches go through, and there are a lot of young lads out there who have spent a lot of time and money going through that system and coming out with all the qualifications, which the FA claim are as good as any qualifications in the world.

"There are a lot of them now that are very disillusioned."

Clark feels the FA had a responsibility to appoint an English coach as Steve McClaren's successor even if there were none available with the same credentials as Capello.

"I think it's important for the game," he said.

"How can the FA complain about the lack of English players in the Premier League with any kind of credibility now they've gone down this route? It's a concern for the wellbeing of the game as a whole.

"The FA should be about the national team winning football matches. I understand that we all want the national team to win but there's a broader aspect to it in our opinion."

YES DAMMIT!!! We should have given the job to a medicore manager! That's the way to go!!

Show's how a lot of the organisations and officials in the game are living so far in the past. Fans only want to see their team do well they don't care who gets them there. Appointing a coach just because he's English no matter what limited success he's had just defies logic. It's also nationalistic which is only a step away from racism
