DaMarcus Beasley faces months on the sidelines after suffering a devastating knee injury in the Champions League clash in Stuttgart on Tuesday night.

The American winger came of worst in a challenge with Stuttgart keeper Rafael Schafer and will now head to the United States for an operation.

The damage will be fully assessed then and Beasley will learn after the operation exact;y how long he will out of action.

Ranger manager Walter Smith admits losing the pacy winger it is a blow to his side just as the former PSV man was settling in at Ibrox.

Smith said: "Obviously after the European game, DaMarcus Beasley will be out for quite a lengthy period.

"He has to go for an operation, which he'll go to America for and we'll have a better idea after that operation but it will be months before he's back. How many we're not quite sure, but it will certainly be months before he's back.

"It's a bigger blow to him in the sense that no player wants to be out for what could be a considerable length of time. But for us he was settling in and starting to do well. He has a bit of pace in the wider areas of the pitch so we'll miss him."

This is terrible for us he is a good player and he set up the first goal against Stuttgart. Sad news, hope he recovers soon.
