Bilic On England: Not Again!

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic was wary as his team were grouped with England once again in the World Cup qualifiers.

Slaven Bilic has admitted that the recent success over England in the Euro 2008 qualifying stage will mean nothing when the sides meet again in 2010 World Cup Qualifying Group 6.

Bilic, who oversaw Croatia’s comfortable qualification to the 2008 competition co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland, feels that England will overcome the problems that saw them finish third.

"Everyone in Croatia was saying 'give us England again' but I wanted to avoid England," he said.

"It is a very, very hard draw because they are by far the best team from the second pot.”

Bilic, who spent time as a player in England for West Ham and Everton, managed his side to the double over group favourites England, beating them 2-0 at home and 3-2 at Wembley in the final qualifying match, yet he remains in no doubt as to the ability of the english and feels that if they can appoint the right man as coach, they will have little problems qualifying for the World Cup.

"The only team I wanted to avoid was England," he said. "They were the most difficult team in Pot B.

"We are not afraid of them but they have got a terrific team and brilliant players. They should gel and they are going to gel."

The Croat has been linked with a move back to England as a manager following his exploits for the Croatian side, has begun the mind-games already, it seems.

I don't think Croatia can cause a surprise again because this English team will be more than ready next time, although I would like to see them not making the World Cup. England has one of the better young players in Europe, the total opposite of Croatia, and when those youngsters step into the senior squad, they'll be a tough team to beat.

The point is Croatia got the worst possible draw considering they're coming out of pot one.

what do you mean surprise?

anything less than a 1st place would be a bad result for croats

croatia will beat them again... it would be funny if England won't make it to another competition AGAIN! just like when England lost to Portugal on penalties twice in a row in Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006. England's not good at revenges, so keep that in mind. Countries like Germany will give you a 10-0 drought for revenge if you beat them one day... they're very deadly.

Well the good news is, most of our starters are still pretty young. Our defensive will lack I feel, Simunic and Kovac will retire eventually, but we'll be seeing Knezevic probably take a spot there.

Anyways, lets just deal with the Euros for now, and worry about the WC later.

I don't see it happening again !

Croats are good, but this time UEFA/FIFA and ref's will be behaind England.

I mean you can't have some Croatia making fun of England all the time.

After all they are England !

The refs will let England win because England contributes more to the UEFA and FIFA if you want to talk moneywise (something similar to Bosnia 1-1 Spain; 9 minute extra time; last minute goal by Spain), and they can't afford England to have so much humiliation, not qualifying for both tournaments. And... they just plain don't like countries other than Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and England.

>>> Bilić: Uspjeli smo u naumu, Englezi prvo dolaze kod nas (http://www.index.hr/sport/clanak/capello-hrvatska-ima-vrlo-dobru-momcad/370932.aspx)
Podsjetimo, u devet sati ujutro u zagrebačkom Sheratonu okupilo se visoko društvo u sastavu: David Rodrigo, izbornik Andore, Fabio Capello, izbornik Engleske, Arno Pijpers, izbornik Kazahstana, Bernd Tange, izbornik Bjelorusije i Aleksej Mihailčenko, novoustoličeni izbornik Ukrajine, zbog dogovora oko rasporeda odigravanja kvalifikacijskih utakmica za Svjetsko prvenstvo 2010. godine.

Dogovoreni termini odigravanja utakmica hrvatske reprezentacije:

2008. godina
6. rujna / Hrvatska - Kazahstan
10. rujna / Hrvatska - Engleska
11.listopada / Ukrajina - Hrvatska
15. listopada / Hrvatska - Andora

2009. godina
1. travnja / Andora - Hrvatska
6. lipnja / Hrvatska - Ukrajina
19. kolovoza / Bjelorusija - Hrvatska
5. rujna / Hrvatska - Bjelorusija
9.rujna / Engleska - Hrvatska
14. listopada / Kazahstan - Hrvatska

Interesting...Do you have anything to substantiate your claim about the refs? I believe England went out of Euro 2008...That was humiliating enough.

Bilic is said to stick around for the World Cup also. Good news!

With the shitty pay he's getting at the moment, who knew if we'd see him for the World cup.

Nice to see that his intentions are pure and not fuled by $$$

If we want to get real here, Bilic is a better coach than McLaren but McLaren earned more than 10 times as much as Bilic.

How much was McLaren making? Like 1-2 MIL a year?

I think Bilic is making 70 000 a year now. lol...

Yeah Sinter. It's somewhere between 50 000 to 70 000 a year. Which is surprising when you think about it. Wasn't Serbia's Javier Clemente making around 240 000 Euros a year?
