Just heard Andy Harper on Fox Sports News that the FFA are looking at Lothar Matthäus as a possibiliy for the Socceroos coaching role.
I really hope that they do land Lothar's signature as he was a fantastic player in his day and he has just coached his Austrian team to their championship.

The FFA has this love affair with Dutch football but what about German football? The Netherlands haven't won a World Cup! The Germans have won three times and have made it to 11 World Cup semi finals! It's time we start looking at German coaches, if it's not Lothar then the FFA should sign Klinsmann, a legend himself.

Didn't he get fired from Red Bull Salzburg (the Austrian team he lead to their championship)?

Altho Matthäus also have experience coaching a National Team (Hungary) if i'm not mistaken during the world cup 2006 qualifying rounds. But they were drawn in a tough group with Sweden, Croatia and Bulgaria so the campaign ended fairly quickly. He was not fired but left after that.

Other than that he's only been coach of several smaller clubs .....not sure he's the best candidate for soocerros tho!

The latest I've read is that Matthaus is potentially on a shortlist of three candidates. The FFA is very tightlipped about who it wants at the moment. Klinsmann's name keeps popping up, but the question is, has anyone had serious discussions yet with any of the names being bandied about in the press?

I hope we get this settled soon and that we appoint someone who really wants the job, not just the bucks.

Didn't Klinsmann have a problem with living outside the US? Even when he was coaching the German NT he keep going back and forth not settling in Germany. He prefer staying in the US away from the media. I can't imagine him doing that as the socceroos coach too.

Klinsmann is a pervert that's why.

European men should never marry an American girl.

PS: Actually European men are all ugly. Ugly as shit.

Lothar Matthäus sucks... as a coach
He is nothing but a big name. Trussier or Verbeek would be a much better choice. Matthäus managed Partizan Belgrade and was sacked due to poor performance. He joined Hungary as national team coach and was sacked. And the became assistant to Red Bull Salzburg. What kind of pedigree is that?

Haha what does looks got to do with football or his coaching ability?? So wht if married an American  Klinsmann is a great coach and it will be good for soceroos to have him as a coach. Honestly Klinsmann has far better experience as a coach than Matthäus. Australia will be lucky to have him but i just see that's impossible with him insisting to stay in USA.

It's all a little pear-shaped and somewhat ridiculous. I read an article just now at a reputable site that claimed that Phillippe Troussier is now within the sights of the FFA as the next national coach.

I don't think I' m prepared to believe anything really at this stage. So many names have been tossed into the air. But should there be any truth to this rumour, Troussier is a man I like. He coached the Japanese National Team whilst I was living in Japan and he had them playing good football. He also took an interest in the development of the game at all levels. Japan did better in WC 2002 than any other. (Yes, I know they were the home team). But compare his tenure with that of say, Zico's, and you might see his value.

Apparently Troussier ticks quite a few boxes....happy to live in Oz, solid experience in Asia, speaks French. (Okay, the last one isn't a tick).

But this could all be futile blathering if this is just another piece of froth from a misguided journalist.

I'm not too sure that Lothar Matthäus would be a wise choice for Australia. I don't really know what the FFA is looking for, and I don't have a list of available managers either, but Philippe Troussier wouldn't be too bad. I know that he managed a few African teams in the past and also Japan in the late 90s to 2002.

R u out of ur mind, he is the only coach in any ex-yugoslavian team to reach the Champions League. He was great with Partizan, the only reason they didn't go any further into the champions league is because of the lack of quality players. There is a possibility that he will be the next FSS manager and I'll be glad having him as our coach.
