It will be a 50 years anniversary game between the WC 1958 finalists Sweden and Brazil at the same stadium as the final was played at 50 years ago, Råsunda, Stockholm.

This game will be great. I can't wait for this one.

Andygers

Yeah it will probably be a great game but Brazil will probably win :(

Vic
10-30-2007, 08:04 PM
I wouldn't be so sure on that. Sweden has a habit to perform great against "better" teams and we haven't lost a game in Sweden for ages.

Andygers
10-30-2007, 08:08 PM
Its Brazil though but Sweden can give them a scare!!!

Vic
10-30-2007, 08:10 PM
Yeah I know, Brazil are better than us but anything can happen. I don't really care for the result. I'm just happy that I get to see a game like this against Brazil.

Andygers
10-30-2007, 08:11 PM
Yeah its like when we played Brazil in the 1998 WC, we just went out and had fun and ended up even getting a draw.

Vic

Ibrahimovic will own Ronaldinho though :D

Vic

It's now official that the game will be played at Emirates Stadium in London.

I personally think it's a shame that the game won't be played at Råsunda where the WC final was played 1958.

Well well money speaks...

Damnit. Our left-back Erik Edman(Wigan Athletic) substained an injury during the 3-1 defeat against Blackburn today. Reports says that he has ruptured a cruciate ligament in his knee which will be diagnosed within 24 hours and he could be gone until October.

Damnit. Ibrahimovic is not going to participate due to his problems with a knee. He will rehab with Inter instead. He has played with painkillers in a couple of games with Inter now..

Mikael Dorsin (CFR Cluj) will replace Erik Edman.

Hmm I believe that we will start with Elmander and Rosenberg upfront now.

Ibra Out Of Sweden-Brazil

Internazionale and Sweden forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been ruled out of Sweden's midweek friendly with Brazil due to a knee injury.
The Swedish FA made the announcement on Sunday that their star player would be out of the game, which will be part of the side's preparations for Euro 2008.

"We spoke this morning and we agreed it is best for him to take the chance for some rehab and rest his knee," revealed Sweden coach Lars Lagerback. "He's played on painkillers for a couple of matches now."

Sunderland's new signing Rade Prica will replace Ibra, and Mikael Dorsin has been called up to replace Wigan Athletic's Erik Edman, who suffered a nasty-looking knee ligament injury in the 3-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Brazil's team news meanwhile includes the omission of injury plagued world class duo Ronaldinho and Kaka, with Manchester United's Anderson being drafted in to replace the Milan star, whose team-mate, the emerging in-form star Alexandre Pato also getting a call-up and primed to make his debut.

Freaking great to see Seb Larsson on the flank instead of Wilhelmsson. Larsson has been brilliant so far in the EPL with 5 goals for his team and some of those goals has been pure magic.

Friendly Preview: Brazil - Sweden

What: International Friendly
When: Wednesday March 26, 2008, 20:45 CET
Where: Emirates Stadium, London

Although this is set to be a friendly match, controversy has been surrounding this game as the Swedish Football Federation (SvFF) wanted it to take place in the Scandinavian country, something the Brazilian federation (CBF) did not agree with.

Young Squad

The Brazilian squad features twelve players aged under 23, so this will be the perfect opportunity for coach Dunga to test some of his new options for the remainder of the 2010 World Cup qualifying as well as the Olympic games this summer.

With Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Kaká ruled out for this game because of injury, Real Madrid's powerful midfielder Júlio Baptista may well lead the offensive charge from midfield, with Diego or Anderson being drafted in as a more creative influence.

Up front the likes of Robinho and Pato are most entertaining options for Dunga, while Luis Fabiano is likely to retain his place as lead striker; seeing which players make the cut and which don't will no doubt be a point of great intrigue as Dunga seeks to find a balanced formaton for his side.

Brazil secured their eighth Copa America trophy with an amazing 3-0 win over arch-rivals Argentina in July, a campaign Dunga wants to serve as prelude to the South American qualifier.

A Seleção have good memories from previous matches against Sweden, having won their first World Cup tournament 50 years ago in a 5-2 final thrashing of the Swedish side, and indeed it is thought this particular opponent was chosen for the five time World Cup winners for this exact reason.

This will be a very important game for several young players, who will be eager to prove their place in the squad ahead of Brazil's upcoming qualifying match against Paraguay in June.

No Ibra

Lars Lagerbäck's main headache for this game will be the absence of Inter star Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to a knee injury. His replacement against Brazil was confirmed to be Sunderland's striker Rade Prica.

The Scandinavian squad have been drawn into Euro 2008 Group D, where they will wind up against Greece, Spain and Russia.

Sweden looked in good form in the tournament's qualifier, finishing in second place in Group F, only two points off leader Spain. They have very good chances of reaching the last eight, but will need more training to avoid some of the latest results that have been far from pleasing.

Sweden's most recent result was a 0-0 draw with Turkey, an outcome that certainly pleased neither nations. With Ibrahimovic out of action for this game, Lagerbäck will have to ask more from his men to try to break through the Brazilian defence.

Mellberg Takes Positives From Brazil Defeat

http://ante-et-post.weblog.com.pt/Olof%20Mellberg.jpg

Olof Mellberg has revealed that despite being defeated, the Swedish team drew many positives from their friendly clash with Brazil on Wednesday night

The Swedes were sunk when international debutante Alexandre Pato came off the bench to score with a deft lob that secured Brazil a 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.

But Swedish defender Mellberg, who is Juventus-bound after a seven-year stay at Aston Villa, said he and his team-mates found a lot to be pleased about with their performance as Euro 2008 draws nearer.

"We learned quite a lot from the game," Mellberg told FIFA.com. "Even though we won't be up against a South American team in the summer [at Euro 2008], we know that we will be playing against teams who are comfortable on the ball, and so Brazil were the perfect test.

"I think we did quite well, so hopefully we can bring the positive aspects of our performance into the summer."

Pato’s goal was the only blemish in what was otherwise an assured defensive performance from the Swedes, who have conceded only three goals in their last four fixtures.

"We played well defensively," continued Mellberg. "From the strikers to the back four, everyone worked hard to deny them space and we limited them to a handful of chances.

"It was a tight game and I think that a draw would have been a fair result."

Vic

Sweden 0-1 Brazil

A 72nd-minute goal from teenage debutant Pato consigned Sweden to a 1-0 defeat by Brazil in their friendly at the Arsenal Stadium in London.

Pato steals show
Just as in the FIFA World Cup final between the sides 50 years ago, the Swedes came off second best – and where a 17-year-old Pelé stole the show in 1958, here it was Pato, the 18-year-old AC Milan player scoring the only goal little over ten minutes after taking the field as a second-half substitute. Charging down Rami Shaaban's attempted clearance near the right-hand corner of the penalty box, he turned in an instant and lifted a first-time lob high over the stranded replacement goalkeeper and into the far corner of the net.

Midfield industry
Sweden coach Lars Lagerbäck had identified this game as good preparation for the Scandinavians' UEFA EURO 2008™ match against slick-passing Spain and he may have taken encouragement from a first period where, for the most part, the Swedes were able to contain Brazil. Kim Kallström – who drove an early effort just over – and Anders Svensson were particularly prominent with their industry in midfield.

Rosenberg miss
He may also be forgiven for concerns about his team's attacking threat, however, given they have scored just once in four outings so far in 2008. Without the injured Zlatan Ibrahimović, Markus Rosenberg led the line alongside Johan Elmander and the former spurned a golden opportunity to open the scoring midway through the first half. Mikael Nilsson's pass from inside the Sweden half caught the Brazil defence flat-footed and sent the Werder Bremen forward racing clear from the halfway line. With only Júlio César to beat, though, Rosenberg flashed his shot wide of the near post.

Isaksson saves
At the other end, Robinho and Daniel Alves combined to feed Diego who drove into the side-netting. The influential Diego then played in Julio Baptista but his attempt was blocked by Andreas Isaksson. The Sweden goalkeeper next turned away a shot by Richarlyson before Julio Baptista curled a free-kick wide. Sebastian Larsson, earning his second cap on the Sweden right, tested Júlio César with a wickedly whipped free-kick shortly after the restart but the Swedes spent most of the second period on the back foot. A flurry of substitutions brought the arrival of Pato, followed soon after by Brazil's winner, with Rosenberg's low drive into Júlio César's chest the closest Sweden came to a reply
