It's announced that for an upcoming movie project, Kevin Costner will be playing the founder of the modern Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. What do you people think? :p

Well, I've opened the same thread in some other forums i participate and all the Turks wonder this. And i say why would he be portrayed as a villain? He's gonna be playing Atatürk. Let's not be that pessimistic. :D Of course there will always be something to criticise but it's a good chance, or actually our first chance to see our highest national icon in the eyes of the other people. It's a perspective. I think the project will focus on his life and achievements so it'll be a biography mixed with drama.
Costner is so into it that he said he will visit Ankara to see the old parliament building, and Atatürk's mausoleum.

Well most people outside of turks seem him as a villian since he did not give up wat they wanted.

and of course there are the claims from the greeks and armenians saying he participated in massacres of them and that bullshit propaganda.

Antonio Banderas was gonna protray him in a movie in 98, but he backed out due to the amount of hate mail he got from greek and armenians

Has anyone seen the new Turkish İş Bank commercial? They took Haluk Bilginer and turned him into Atatürk and it's very very good. Great make up artistry!
Makes me question why not Haluk Bilginer if not Kevin Costner? :P

cause bilginer probably doesnt speak english well and probably cant pronounce words, plus it would take him forever to memorize lines

He can. :)

plus it would take him forever to memorize lines

How can you say such a thing to one of the best Turkish actors out there?

Gates of Fire BLOWS 300 out of the water in action, story, and Patriotism!!!

I suggest anyone who enjoys any of the 3 to buy and read Gates of Fire!!!!!

Picture a river of blood, guts, piss and sweat flowing down the middle of the battle! Greeks dying due to exhaustion from killing Persians! Perisans falling by the multitude! Thats is Gates in VIVID detail!!!!! You fall in love with the Spartans from the start and it almost breaks your heart because you know most die!
