Japan Still Asia's Number One
Japan are still Asia’s top team in FIFA's rankings and have moved up seven spots, the biggest climb out of all of the continent’s nations, to number 34.

Iran stay second and move up four to number 40.
Australia stay in third, just ahead of South Korea and Saudi Arabia.
Kuwait are the biggest fallers of the month, dropping a massive 16 spots to 105. Syria and Palestine also suffered serious falls.
China and Qatar are still feeling the effects of the Asian Cup but manage to stay in the top 100.
Bahrain, Jordan, UAE and Kuwait are just outside the top ten.
Thailand's are south-east Asia's number one team at 117 while India are south Asia's top dog at 145.

Haha FIFA ranking is kind of a joke and cannot be taken too seriously :D ....Iraq should be the first followed by S.Arabia and then Japan.

toke do you really take these rankings seriously? cause if you do it shows how little you know about football.
so the #1 team in asia according to this couldn't be #4 in asia devoid of team captain, all euro players, and being 1 man down for more than 1/2 the game? or how about korea beating usa, mexico, and greece in friendlies on the lead up to the wc2006. or Korea tying France (top 5) in WC2006?
anyhow i can't believe i am entertaining this petty argument. fifa rankings mean squat.

 I think that Korea Republic has done a lot to prove that they've been perhaps the best team in Asia over the last few years. Australia and Japan are close, but Australia needs to play much better football in Asian Cups, and Japan needs to step it up in WCs. Iraq closes up this group of top 4 best Asian national teams as I think that they have come a long way and deserved to win the last Asian Cup because they showed plenty of heart.
It's just Asian teams like Saudi Arabia that I don't take seriously at all. Sure, they were Asian Cup finalists, but they're the team that everyone wants to play at World Cups. They're competitive in Asia but that's about it.

Hmmm, FIFA ranked USA, #4 in the world going into WC 2006. Only the teams that can't beat other teams on the field talk about their FIFA rankings. It also helps to have Nike, Adidas or ESPN to hype you up for the marketing value. Stop embarrassing yourself and go beat North Korea first before you can compete with South Korea.

Why Japan lost to Saudi Arabia and Korea in Asian Cup this year?

I think whoever is ranked number 1 in Asia will matter when there are a sprinkling of Asian teams in the top 20...which is a way off yet!

Japan was also ranked number 13.
and we lost to South Korea on penalties; with a "b" team...if memory serves, we beat South Korea the last time we met, and the time before that.

Nakamura, Takahara, Endo are B team? SK is the one fielded B team by not even bringing Park Ji Sung, Seol Ki Hyeon, Lee Young Pyo, Lee Dong Gook, Kim nam Il, Lee Ho, Lee Eul Yong to the tournament. Not only you don't know much about SK squad but you don't even know much about Japanese squad. What do you know? You must've taken one too many Japanese history classes. What's next, the Rape of Nanking never happened? Plz stop embarrassing yourself.
