View Full Version : UCL Matchday 2: CSKA Moscow vs. Fenerbahce

CSKA lost thier first game to PSV 2-1, scoring a last minute goal. But apparently they were the better side vs PSV after PSV scored their 1st goal.

Fener is coming off a magnificent 1-0 win against Italian record setting Champions.

This game will be played on Oct 2, at 18:30 CET time.

Which means the game will start at 12:30 pm here in the EST Coast of America.

Of course this wont be easy in Russia, probably in cold weather, but if we beat Inter we can definetly beat CSKA. Our Defense hasnt let a goal in, in 3 matches in the UCL, so hopefully we will keep it that way. With a win here, we will most likely be on our way to qualify from the group stages.

even a 1:1 draw wouldn't be a bad result

- but i think it will end up 2:0 CSKA victory

CSKA is a really tough away game so I'll be happy to snatch one point. Oh man, us tying or winning, and PSV and Inter tying would make my day.

^ Iagree psv and inter tying would be extremely great..And this match is gonna be very difficult for fenerbahce. hopefully we will pull if off.

Very difficult game for Fener in Russia.

I'd expect a win but not by much, probably another 1-0.

Same here. CSKA lost against league leaders Zenit Saturday so CSKA could be a bit down and tired..

hopefully they'll stay down, honestly we have a better team so hopefully we'll win. if we win this i believe we'll get through the group stages and maybe end up 1st

Sorry, I see this being a draw, which would still be a good result for Fener. With it being in Russia, I don't see Fener being able to go into such a hostile and unknown terran and come out with a win.

i would be happy with a draw as well, but a win should be our aim.

I also predict a 2-1 victory to FB, i think they have something special going in Europe this year!

Good luck

if Fenerbahce do well with their next couple of games and if they do manage to top this group
they will be a force to be wreckened with in the knock-out stages
beating Inter 1:0 when it could have been even a bigger result is quite impressive
i want to see a FB win and a Interhimovic draw with PSV
since inter always upsets on the european stage, never make it far anyways.. might as well give FB a chance :)

They lost it against Zenit, CSKA could go either way but they'll surely be furious. Very hard game for Fener.

If FB come out with the playing style they had against Inter then i think they will be a big threat. I have to admit, i liked what i saw against Inter, that looked deadly. Too bad they cant do that in the TSL.

10-01-2007, 10:33 AM
i know ehh
Inter plays so much different on the European Stage as they do in their League
you would expect most teams to play harder and better in European Competitions than in the league
but for Inter it has always been the other way around, they cant do good in the Champions League
and i am happy that Fenerbahce are doing good.. i finally want to see them get out of the group stage for once and enjoy playing against a team in the knock-out rounds

Pressure rising on CSKA Moskva
Monday 1 October 2007Match preview by Eduard Nisenboim from Moscow

CSKA Moskva coach Valeri Gazzaev (İGetty Images)One game into the UEFA Champions League and PFC CSKA Moskva are already feeling the heat as they attempt to put a string of disappointing results behind them with victory against Fenerbahçe SK in Group G.

Gazzaev hopeful
After CSKA kicked off on Matchday 1 with a defeat at PSV Eindhoven, then saw their hopes of reclaiming the Russian title slip away with Saturday's 2-1 loss at FC Zenit St. Petersburg, coach Valeri Gazzaev is looking for an improvement against the Turkish champions, particularly in front of goal. "Our ability to make the most of our chances will be very important in this match, as it always is," Gazzaev said. "We were excellent in St Petersburg but we couldn't take the clearest chances. The same thing happened at PSV. We were let down by a lack of ability, by rushing too much, by an absence of luck. As a result we didn't get the result we needed, but we're trying not to dwell on that. As long as we're making chances, we're playing well."

'Difficult opponent'
Fenerbahçe are yet to hit top form in Turkey's Süper Lig, though they showed what they are capable of when beating FC Internazionale Milano 1-0 a fortnight ago. With two games to follow for CSKA against the Italian champions, Gazzaev knows there is no margin for error. "Fenerbahçe have a lot of South American players and a Brazilian coach, so we understand their methods," he said. "They are experienced both individually and as a group, and they play quality, combination-based football. We face a difficult opponent."

Brazilian threat
Visiting coach Zico has picked out two of his compatriots as CSKA's biggest threats. "Vágner Love and Jô are CSKA's strongest line of attack," Zico said. "The most important thing is to stop CSKA scoring. We will base our tactics on that. We expect a very difficult match. We may be away from home but we will still be setting ourselves the task of getting all three points. The players will give everything to win." Zico also has words of encouragement for forward Mateja Kežman, who missed several opportunities in Saturday's 2-0 win against MKE Ankaragücü. "Kežman is having a difficult time," Zico said. "We're trying to support him and I've given him some special attention."

Final chance
Playmaker Daniel Carvalho may return to the CSKA squad, yet with no fresh injury concerns both teams are expected to name the same XIs that started on Matchday 1. Moscow will host the UEFA Champions League final across town at the Luzhniki Stadium on 21 May 2008, but if CSKA are to maintain local interest beyond the group stage for the first time, three points here could make all the difference. "We're only thinking about winning," Gazzaev said. "Last year I said we needed eight or nine points to qualify, and we didn't qualify even though we got eleven. This time it is a very even group and eight or nine points should be enough."

I don't know, to me Aurelio has been great. It's Deivid who's creating the problem at the midfield, he is nowhere. I was speculating with my brother around thirty minutes into the game about whether he's playing or not.

Yeh it could be Deivid but i guess it's a common thing between these guys which is causing the probs but Aurelio has been caught up some times and he looks way too slow for this level but he could have a bad day i don't know, i haven't watched him too many times.

now all FB needs to do is beat PSV and CSKA at home and it's all good :)

Fenerliyim
10-02-2007, 08:28 PM
man the match ended Edu 2:2 Fenerbahce. Zico did good by subbing both Lugano and Edu out for Yasin and Gokhan. Edu was just a wreck 2nd half and Lugano had a yellow and couldnt do much. By bringing gokhan and moving onder to CB our right flank became alive since Kazim also came in the game.

After their penalty 2nd half was all us, we deserved a third goal to be honest. Dievid is spectacular, he has made up for the shit hes put us through imo.

This is a good result for us but i am only pissed cause it could have been 2:0. Its all edu's fault we didnt come out with 3 points.

CSKA has impressed me a lot, i didnt think their attack was this good, wagner love is amazing, guy doesnt fall down. Their defense sucks though especially dudu.

I guess its an alright result although it could have been a victory for fener if they didnt did start that bad in 2nd half. But in general fener stopped playing after the goal by Alex till around last 20 minutes of match, but i was surprised how well the defense of fener was, ive actually never seen a turkish defense in club history play as well as they did today, especially the positioning was way over what ive ever seen in a turkish side, but the team did play too far back for its own good. The CSKA defense was really bad, it surprised me alot, if fener had some attackers in form this could have been a win, but deivid or kezman didnt get the ball much and both of them had trouble just keep hold of the ball on cska´s half. First time i saw Wederson play and he actually did a solid job, he ran alot and got some good long passes, but he equally made some awful passes on simple short passes especially. That Gökhan Gönül guy that came in was imo a very bad substitution though, he was only in for about 15 minutes but moved like some1 who was on the pitch for more than 1 hour and was physically too weak. Aurelio and Carlos did some good job and Edu too until his stupid errors, but CSKA had some offensive players in really good form, especially the Serbian guy "krastic" or sumthing along with Love,Jo played really good. Dudu and Rahimic were among the worst on their side along with most of their defense and defensive midfield

We need to get back psv from the last time we met them. hopefully we'll come out victorious from there..I am very proud of Deivid. Two heroic shots, two beautiful goals, very happy for him. What's important is winning in Istanbul and making the opponent lose points in their homes. Fener did just that so far and I'm really happy with the 1 point actually. The game could've gone both ways and it's not like our first goal was very organized, so I don't see how this is "losing" 2 points. Mistakes in the CL don't go unpunished and that was what exactly happened. A deserved tie if you ask me. And I hope Edu doesn't ruin himself because of this. None of these players are robots and this is when they need the most support. That could've been Carlos, too. Everybody makes mistakes. I just hope he gets over it.

Of course i'm not happy about these mistakes, nobody is. But Edu is such a worthy to Fenerbahçe and i'm just conceding mistakes to any player and not writing them off or bashing them for one bad day, although it was bad timing admittedly ;)

I totally agree to Fry36:

He's amazing, the best transfer we made in years.

To tell you the truth, CSKA has never been a favorite in my eye. They are not a top team, and they won a UEFA Cup a few years ago. It's not unusual to suffer big dissapoitments aftes success. Especially in football, and especially the underdogs.
