Progaming is quite a reality in many countries, expecially South Korea and Sweden.
Games like Starcraft ( almost 10 years old ! ) and Counterstrike are the most played with gamers and clans which are sponsorized.
Personally i played Starcraft for years, and i know a bit of the whole situation there.
In South Korea that game is like their National Sport, with matches showed in real time on tv and players famous and paid like footballers !!!
WCG ( World Cyber Games ) is the most famous event.
Some European and American gamers have been able to get a sponsor and move to South Korea to play with the the best !
I think it's insane because progaming is an obsession, to be at top these people must play 10 hours a day or more and their brain can concentrate only on the game.
I was obsessed too with Starcraft and even tho i had a low level compared to them i always wanted to learn more and more..
Luckily i lost that obsession and now i find it just a game.
Ohhh shit DUKE!!! I was a starcraft nut myself! BEST GAME EVER. Competetive gaming there certainly huge. Starcraft in South Korea is like bigger than any sport there. I played the game and in the leagues but I never got so good because it requires so much time to be as good as those Koreans, hell even all the whities that play the game as much as the Koreans still suck compared to them.
Anyways I am highly anticipating the release of Starcraft 2 just so I can enjoy the game a few times a month. I've figured its impossible for me to achieve that level and I doubt I would ever want to be a "pro gammer" . But I check starcraft2.com on a daily basis hoping to see some more new units, last few weeks have sucked they only released the sensor dome and observer in like a month, just bring on the zerg already!
Yep, competitive gaming has come a long way. They have the CGS (Championship Gaming Series) which inclues a number of games including Counter-Strike Source, Dead or Alive , Fifa, and some others. It is shown on a tv channel on Direct Tv. The best players get huge contracts. However, the money is at Halo. They make millions.
I can see you sign a big CS contract. :)
you still play CS?

I wish there was something like this for the Football Manager series with a massive league and like 20 of the best players in the world battling it out!!!
@ Sinter: Yeah I still play but not as much as i used to (PS3/school), hit me up on Steam (my name is Xtra) if you want to play (You havn't been on in 81 days Kecer. mhmm)
@Andygers: The best of the best FIFA players play in the CGS and they are sick. Man, if i was there, i woudl probably get kicked out for swearing when losing and talking too much trash when winning :)
