Croats cheering for Slovenia!

I heard from my grandmorther who live in Zagreb that the whole Zagreb was celebrating when the result was 3:0 for Slovenia.

I don't live in Zagreb, but I think for obvious reasons, most Croats would cheer for anyone against Jugoslavija. Just as most Jugoslavs would cheer for anyone against Croatia.

But if you guys don't mind, let's not let this topic turn into an insult contest.

Prosinecki - actually a lot of Serbs were cheering the Croats on in WC '98 after we got kicked out. In fact, FSJ even set a letter of congratulation to HNS after you guys reached the semi's.

Of course, 'cause we played well. Anyway it's a fact that most people would cheer anyone that plays Yugoslavia and I think it's nothing strange. So far, in this cup, Yugoslavia didn't win many simphaties by the way they played, so why should Croats be the ones cheering for them in that context.

We are not out to make friends or gain sympathy from Europe. Everyone showed how much sympathy they have towards us, so f#*% them! We are out to win our games and win the damn thing!

Ivan, I'm not that convinced that a lot of Serbs were cheering for us. Maybe there was a handful of you guys, but I really doubt there was many.

I'm sure a lot of you guys respected us as a team, as we respect you guys as a team. After all, we know each other so well, and when I take off the red white and blue glasses, and you take off the red blue and white glasses, we can definately appreciate the talent we each have.

Prosinecki - well, I can tell you that from the people I know, a handful of them where cheering Croatia on, while the majority were simply indifferent and didn't care much since we felt dejected after our loss.

But many of your players came from the same "school" that our players came from and most of us grew up watching all of them play together. So even though you guys weren't the same country anymore and had a separate team I think a good number of people(especially the older ones who are more nostalgic) were very sympathetic to your team.

I live in Zagreb and I only wish to confirm that it was a huge celebration (petarde, vatreno oruzje, topovski udari, rakete,...) after the third Slovenian goal.

I'd say it's 65% for the dislike of Serbs and 35% for the sympathy for Slovenians. (I was also in a neighbourhood bar watching the next Slovenian match against Spain, and there was pretty loud cheering reaction when they equalized.)
