Well the ref cheated. One goal offside, one disputable foul outside the area for which he gave a penalty and a very lucky deflection.

celtic were pure junk!

Andygers
04-27-2008, 04:22 PM
^ Well this is how we were cheated out the game (and ask Legend if you don't believe me):

1. Stone wall penalty for Rangers denied in the first few minutes.
2. Celtics first goal was clearly offside, you are blind if you say otherwise.
3. Celtic got a penalty for a challange, which was a dive and outside the box.
4. Hessilink assulted Amdy Faye and only got a yellow card.
5. Then Whittaker was sent off for his first two fouls!
and
6. McDonald was diving all over the place at the end.

I know...theres only two ways we can win the league:

1) By winning 7-0 against St Mirren, then winning by more goals than Celtic on the last day of the season.

or

2) By winning the remaining games and hoping that Celtic drop points vs Dundee United.

Now I know both are possible but I sadly cannot see either happening

Andygers
05-18-2008, 06:18 PM
St Mirren vs Rangers

Well what can we do now, we have all but effectively blown it. We, if we have any chance of winning the league, will have to destroy St Mirren by a good 6 or 7 goals. I for one cannot see us doing this as we will not go out gung-ho and will probably only win by 1 or 2 goals, that will then mean we must pray that Dundee United do us a massive favour on Thursday.

COME ON YOU GERS!!!

I'm affraid this is the price for reaching a massive final, it is such a blow to morale. I had a feeling this would happen.
Here in Donegal the locals are nearly all Celtic Fans. They had already conceeded the title. They wanted Strachan out, (And did not say so nicely, they wanted him hung drawn and QTD) mind you I think most would still want him out even after winning the title. (He is not popular) I had said to a few guys, points on the board are what matter, it is a big ask to go and win the next game after losing a final.
It's night-mare for you guys, after such a great season. (Badtimes)

Andygers
05-19-2008, 05:58 PM
^ The league is not over yet, though if the roles were reversed I would have though it was by now. Rangers have won their last 2 titles coming down to last day deciders, this is what we are good at. The pressures on Celtic now, the know they have to win and they are champs and that can effect some players. If we had of beaten Motherwell I would still of feared they would win the league because the pressure would be on us and we would have had to go to Aberdeen, where we find it tough under pressure, and would probably of messed it up there. Dundee United have a terrible record against Celtic and have nothing to play for but Motherwell were in the same situation in 2005 and look what they did.

Though I really wish we weren't in this situation after coming so close.

So lets have score predictions for the two games

Andygers
05-20-2008, 04:57 PM
Aberdeen vs Rangers

Well here we are 37 played, 27 won, 5 drawn and 5 lost and second in the league. It all comes down to this for those who don't know, Rangers have to win against Aberdeen then we have to hope and pray that Celtic drop points, if Celtic win we will have to win by 5 more goals than they do to retain the title, which is highly unlikely. So its all down to Dundee United to win us a title that we should have wrapped up a very long time ago.

So lets focus on our game, I think we will win it by only by 1 or 2 goals. Aberdeen never lie down to us, infact their four games against us in a season is what they and their fans live for so this isn't going to be a walkover. However I am confident that we will win because the pressure is off of us, whereas Celtic go to Tannadice knowing that if they don't win they have blown it. Alexander will start and I expect a back four of Whittaker, Celluar, Weir and Broadfoot. This isn't going to be easy but lets do this....

AND BRING THE TITLE HOME!!!! :first:

I think Rangers are the victim of thier own success this year, it's almost impossible to compete until the end in all these competitions, if you had not got to the Euro final, you would have won the league for sure. You've had a terrific season but the fixture build up and size of the squad has taken its toll. Aside from being phyiscally drained the playes must be mentally drained after losing the final.

Well what can we do, usually in times like this games like these can go 2 ways, one Rangers would take their frustration out on QOS and win 5-0 or two Rangers will be so downheartened that they will struggle and win just by 1 or 2 goals but very luckily. However the first cannot happen because we are so tired...

So I say Rangers 1-0 QOS AET

I was wondering how ur striker "Isa Bagci" is like, any potential of making it to the Rangers team soon and what is he good at? He is doing very well, he is part of a lot of Rangers up coming players that are tipped to be special and he wants to commit to the team, so he will be at Rangers for years to come.

Nice to see Beasley back, I thought he had a smashing first half but a quite poor second. His pace was probably what we were missing in the last part of the season.

Heres my player evaluation for season 2007/08-

Goalkeepers

Allan McGregor- Wow what can I say he had an amazing season, he started quite indifferently but ended up becoming one of the best players. Shame he was injured near the end of the season when we needed him most.
Best game- Werder Bremen (A)
Rating (out of ten)- 9.5

Neil Alexander- Came in as an emergency replacement when McGregor was injured, did well enough but didn't have the cutting edge that we really needed and was at fault for a few key goals that cost us dearly.
Best game- Fiorentina (A)
Rating- 6

Defenders

David Weir- At 38 years old Davie was always going to struggle during a normal season but this was no normal season. To be honest he was very good for the most part and created a great partnership with Carlos Celluar but near the end he started to look tired and made mistakes that could have been costly.
Best game- Sporting Lisbon (A)
Rating- 7

Carlos Celluar- My god this man deserves a medal, a big gold one! He was our best player, the main reason that we did so well and an amazing defender. Some of the tackles and headers he made kept us in games and was rightly voted player of the year by the league sponsors. I hope that he stays next season and plays even better than this fantastic one.
Best game- Werder Bremen (A)
Rating- 10

Sasa Papac- Well he had a good end to the season, infact a great end to the season but never clicked early on. At the start I wasn't sure about him but in the end we all saw his potential and he will be key for next season.
Best game- Fiorentina (H)
Rating- 7

Kirk Broadfoot- Kirk the "clown" and Kirk Bigfoot were just two of the nicknames that the Ibrox faithful had for this player, which is pretty harsh considering he played at St Mirren the season before and as a center back. However he just isn't Rangers class, nowhere near it. Makes far too many mistakes and looks very nervous on the ball. Hopefully won't feature as regurarly next season.
Best game- Werder Bremen (H)
Rating- 5

Steven Whittaker- Was fairly average this season, never really excited but at the same time wasn't shockingly poor. He had his moments, for example in Lisbon or on his debut against Falkirk, but also had some pretty poor games against Aberdeen in the league and QoS in the Scottish cup. Hopefully he will improve next season.
Best game- Sporting Lisbon (A)
Rating- 6.5

Allan Hutton- Was looking as though he was going to be player of the season for a while and if he stayed it would have been close between him and King Carlos for the title of best player. At the time he was here he was immense and caused every defence he came up against troubles with his pace and skill but unfortunately left for 10 million pounds to Tottenham. If he had of stayed we would probably won the league.
Best game- Stuttgart (H)
Rating- 9

Midfielders

Barry Ferguson- Barry started the season off as though he was going to make this his season for the first time in a few years by scoring good goals against Inverness ect. and putting in several key performances. He was also missed at this time because we struggled without his guidence and lost key games like Hearts away. However in the second half of the season he suffered an ankle injury and became missing in many key games and didn't show what he was made of. In the end it was a poor season for Barry's standards.
Best game- Barcelona (H)
Rating- 6

Kevin Thomson- Was injured for the first part of the season but when he came in he made quite a good impression and finally became the player that we payed 2 million to Hibs for. However he subsided a little a near the end of the season.
Best game- Celtic (H)
Rating- 7

Steve Davis- Made an instant impact when he came in to the Rangers side on loan and winning 7 man of the match awards out of your first 9 matches helps a lot when suceeding at Rangers. He was instrumental in our European run but at the end of the season he started to look pretty poor and people questioned whether to permenately sign him or not, although I think we should.
Best game- Werder Bremen (H)
Rating- 7.5

Lee McCulloch- Big Lee showed a few touches of true potential with cracking goals against Lyon, East Stirling and Aberdeen but over the piece was a dissappoinment and because of his height enouraged us to play the high ball, which I don't like. I really think we should look for a replacement.
Best game- Lyon (A)
Rating- 5.5

Brahim Hemdani- Showed a few signs that he would return to the form of last year but never actually reached anywhere near that form, apart from one game against Lyon he was hugely dissappointing.
Best game- Lyon (A)
Rating- 5

Charlie Adam- Was an absoulte joke this season, after making a good impression last season he was laughable this season. Now I know that Ulster will completely disagree with me but I think he was our worst player came back for the last few games and when he played we failed.
Best game- Stuttgart (H)
Rating- 3.5

DaMarcus Beasley- Only played a few games this season because of an injury but when he played he was dynamic and showed frightening pace. People argued that he was too lightweight but at least he would have another go. Good player that we need to keep.
Best game- Lyon (A)
Rating- 7

Strikers

Kris Boyd- I cannot believe this guy did not start more often. He scored 24 goals in 26 games this season and still didn't make the team for big games. He needs to play next season and if he does we will suceed.
Best game- Dundee United (N)
Rating- 8

JCD- Started the season off on fire and was terrorising defences up and down the country but he started to lose his fitness and then became a headless chicken and just failed when we needed him the most.
Best game- Sporting Lisbon (A)
Rating- 6.5

Daniel Cousin- Only three words to sum this guy up. Lazy, Uninterested and stupid. Needs a reality check, another failure and yet he had the potential to become a great player.
Best game- Werder Bremen (H)
Rating- 5

Nacho Novo- If effort won football matches this guy would be the best player in the world. He just puts his all in to games and scored countless important goals in the league and in Europe. Made the club a shed load of money with his goals in Europe. Needs to stay for next season.
Best game- Celtic (H)
Rating- 8.5

Now I will review the whole teams performances in all the competitions:

SPL

Rangers started the season off with a winning run of 7 in a row and didn't look like they were going to give it up until games against Dundee united, Hearts and Hibs had us undone. Celtic at that point were favourites but Rangers stormed on during December and January and were making teams look like amatures and by beating Celtic twice we were strong favourites for the title but our European run took its toll for the worse and a tired and then went on to lose to Celtic twice and Aberdeen and draw against Hibs, Motherwell and Dundee united. This confined us to second place again and we felt as though we had thrown it away again but we will be back next season!
Best game- Celtic (H)
Rating- 7.5

Europe

Rangers would never of imagined what would happen this season in Europe when they prepared for the match against FK Zeta. The campaign started against the before mentioned Zeta side, Rangers won 2-0 at home and the second leg followed with a 1-0 win in Montenagro put us into the final round of qualifying against Red Star and it took a last minute goal from Nacho Novo for us to take the first leg and we drew 0-0 in the second leg. In the group stages we were handed the group of death however we started remarkably well with wins against Stuttgart and Lyon and a draw at home to Barcelona but it all fell apart in the last few games and we ended up in the Uefa cup. The Uefa cup at first felt like a huge dissapointment but after we had seen off Panathinakios and Werder Bremen we started to believe, then we faced Sporting Lisbon and after we drew 0-0 at home we were not expected to win in the second leg but we did and we made the most of it as we were playing Itallian giants Fiorentina in the semi-finals, however we ended up beating them and we were in a european final for the first time in 36 years. Unfortunately we lost at the last huddle but we should be proud of the boys and respect their efforts.
Best game- Lyon (A)
Rating- 9.5

Domestic cups

Won both, Boyd was the key man. Enough said.
Best game- Dundee United (N)
Rating- 8

Andygers
05-27-2008, 07:00 PM
I gave it 7.5 because 8 or 9 would have meant we had won it on the last day or 10 meant we won it by far, like 12+ points.

Andygers
05-27-2008, 07:10 PM
So what was your game of the season?

I personally think that its between the Celtic game when it was 3-0 going on 7-0, the Lyon game away from home or the Falkirk game at home when it was really tense at 3-2 with 10 minutes to go and we ended up winning 7-2!

oh Schobe was in net than thats a different story lol, because iv seen neuer play against top clubs like barcelona in the quarter finals where Schalke lost 1-0 in both legs to get knocked out of Champions league last season. But for Me this result means nothing at all since it just a friendly to get your club warmed for the next season to start, like Bayern today won 8-0 against some club i never heard of lol it was a game to honour Gerd Mueller the german legend, the game was played in his city in germany haha... :smoking:
Rangers are always a good side at times, i never excepted them to be in the finals of the uefa cup but they were there and it was well deserved since they played very well against good clubs like Werder Bremen... but anyways Rangers are looking really good for next season since i heard you guys signed 2 players from bundesliga, Klasnic and Rosenborg? not sure if you got them but i heard somewhere that you guys were planning to sign them too, when a team concedes 4 goals like Bayern did against Zenit you cant always blame the keeper can you? most of the time its the defense to blame because they haven't been playing good for you team.. People now days say Petr Cech is crap because they lost against Turkey? is he horrible? hell no, its not his fault they conceeded 3 late goals after leading 2-0 under 15 mins remaining till the end... i always liked cech because hes been a world class goalie for quite a while now and he proved it numerous times in champions league and for his nation..

But for Me this result means nothing at all since it just a friendly to get your club warmed for the next season to start Yes friendly games are meaningless result wise but our performances have been appalling so far, no attack it looks even worse than last year and the fact that Barry Ferguson is out for three months makes it even worse. It doesn't look good at all.

but anyways Rangers are looking really good for next season since i heard you guys signed 2 players from bundesliga, Klasnic and Rosenborg? not sure if you got them but i heard somewhere that you guys were planning to sign them too It was a strong rumor over here for a long time that we were going to sign both of them for a while but it has died out over the last few weeks. The signings that we have made are Kyle Lafferty, Andrius Velicka and the ever popular Kenny Miller. The only signing I think is good is Velicka, so imo that is not looking "very good".

Btw can I ask you one question, In the thread "Kenny Miller- For or against" why did you vote for? It would be interesting to see your reasoning for it.

Falkirk vs Rangers

First game of the SPL season kicks off at Falkirk and to be honest I am not looking forward to it, for obvious reasons. We need to attack, none of this defensive crap that Smith has left us playing every game. Boyd has to play and so does either Velicka or Lafferty up front. We better win this or Walter's head will be on the line (if it isn't allready!!)

Team I would go for:

--------------McGregor------------------------

Broadfoot------Celluar-----Bougherra-----Papac

-----Hendami------Thomson-------Furman-----

------------------Lafferty ----------------------

------------Boyd----------Velicka-------------

My Prediction- Falkirk 1-1 Rangers :(

Dude0681
08-08-2008, 01:00 PM
Broadfoot wouldn't get anywhere near my starting XI.
Bougherra? Nope. Cuellar? if he's fit enough.
Our defence needs to be able to rely on each other and I don't think Cuellar having to bail out broadfoot means he can play at his best. Quite like the idea of Velicka n Boyd up front with lafferty in behind though as there isn't any attacking options from midfield with the 4-5-1 usually played

OK having just watched Bougherra he looks as though he can do a job. Whats wrong with Webster? is he injured again? Still not convinced this side can get through the next three games, any team that can string four passes together can ask questions of the defence. And as I'm usually quick to criticise them I want to say Broadfoot n Dailly both had a good game

Falkirk 0-1 Rangers

Rangers took all three points today in a very close encounter against Falkirk at the Falkirk stadium. Rangers started off comfortably spraying the ball nicely and making good runs but we never threatened. Typically Rangers let Falkirk into the game and Falkirk made chances but nothing came from them in the first half, however in the second half Steven Whittaker recklessly lunged into a Falkirk striker and gave away a penalty, Micheal Higdon stepped up but Allan McGregor saved comfortably and 7 minutes later Kris Boyd's header went straight to Kyle Lafferty and he passed to Andruis Velicka who tapped the ball in for the only goal of the game.

Bad performance but we got the win....

OK having just watched Bougherra he looks as though he can do a job. Yes as I suspected he looked comfortable on the ball and can pick out a good pass forward. Looks like he could forge a good partnership with Celluar.

Whats wrong with Webster? is he injured again? Yeah and then Walter goes and signs him on a 3 year deal

And as I'm usually quick to criticise them I want to say Broadfoot n Dailly both had a good game The next three games are crucial and they could shape our season, I think if we get 9 points we are in a good position. MADJID BOUGHERRA has revealed that a dressing-room dressing down from manager Walter Smith on Friday was the trigger for the vital weekend win at Falkirk that got Rangers' SPL campaign off to a flier.

The Ibrox new boy made an impressive debut at the Westfield Stadium on Saturday, forming a partnership with Kirk Broadfoot that was solid enough to keep a clean sheet as Rangers eked out a 1-0 win.

The Algerian international defender was delighted with the win at the end of a disastrous week for his new club that killed his dream of playing European football this season.

Bougherra sat in his hotel room last Tuesday watching the Kaunas horror show unfold and although the defeat depressed him before he'd even kicked a ball for Rangers, the former Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton stopper insisted he has no regrets about moving north of the border.

But he admitted that his new teammates needed an injection of fire and determination in the wake of that shambles in Lithuania and Smith provided it at Murray Park on Friday.

The Ibrox gaffer had met disgruntled fans' chiefs at the plush training HQ earlier that day and had been left in no doubt that the rank and file were raging with the embarrassing European exit.

Smith later gathered his players round and told them in no uncertain terms they had to get the finger out.

If they did, the punters would forgive them.

If they didn't, Smith warned them it was going to be a very long season.

Bougherra said: "We had a meeting yesterday with the gaffer and he told us the fans would roar us on if we did well and if not we would have a very bad season.

"The gaffer spoke and we listened.

"We know this is a big club and we have to give 200 per cent every game for the fans because there are 50,000 at every game at Ibrox.

"That meeting inspired us. We did not play our best football at Falkirk but when they had pressure, we kept them out and then we scored. We won and that is a big help."

The £2.5million signing admitted he was distraught as he sat in his hotel room watching Rangers crash out of the Champions League in Kaunas, but he insisted he never for a moment regretted his decision to snub West Brom at the last minute and head for the SPL.

He said: "I saw the game but I had no doubts about having signed. When you come here you know that Rangers will play every season in Europe and it's a dream for the players.

"I was very disappointed sitting in my room - we lost, it was raining and Ididn't feel good.

"Afterwards it was brighter and I thought, 'That's life - my contract is four years and we will win the championship and there will be no worries'. We have no excuses for this season now.

"Of course, European football was a big reason for me coming here. I saw the final last year and I knew that there would be the chance of Champions League football every year so it was a dream.

"Now I want to play in the Champions League next year.

"I can wait for Europe, it's no problem. I am 25 so I have time to play in Europe.

"No, I never thought that I had made a mistake.

"I know I am at a big club and when I signed, everybody from Algeria - my friends and family - were phoning me saying it's fantastic. I signed because I wanted to play in Europe but now we have had the first game it's OK. I enjoyed it and now we play at Ibrox next game.

"It was frustrating watching Rangers go out but now I have played a game, we've won it and I can honestly say I have forgotten about it now.

"It's behind us and we're concentrating on the league and we want to win trophies now."

Bougherra admitted the quality Falkirk displayed at Westfield surprised him but all he cared about was getting off to a winning a start.

He added: "I was surprised because Falkirk have a very good team, they play good football.

"You enjoy when you win so three points was most important for us and the fans.

"Before the game you're afraid of what will happen because it's a new regime with Rangers and I've only trained two days with Kirk. I was surprised how comfortable I was with him and every player and I had a good sensation on the pitch. When Allan McGregor saved the penalty, he changed the attitude of every player and inspired the team to a good score.

"We haven't played our best football today but even though they had pressure we kept them out and won three points."

Hearts are next up at Ibrox and Bougherra will almost certainly have another defensive partner with Carlos Cuellar due back from injury. David Weir will also be back from suspension, adding to Smith's alternatives.

Bougherra knows that the one silver lining on a very dark cloud is that no Europe means more time for domestic matters.

"Now that we don't have Europe, we'll have more rest," he said.

"Winning the first match is good because we know we will have some free weeks coming up while Celtic have the Champions League ahead."

Good to see that Walter is taking his job seriously and Madjid is happy to go without european football!

I hope Walter Smith has a few tricks up his sleeve. If only Cuellar didn't have a release clause.
:worried: I'm worried now that others will follow and will be replaced by more bargain bucket garbage......

I'm a believer that in the face of adversity the 'gers will triumph, but they don't half make it harder for themselves.

Rangers vs Hearts

Rangers' second opponents in the SPL come in the form of Czaba Lazlo's Hearts side and it will be a tough test. The Edinburgh club won their opening day clash with last years 3rd place side Motherwell 3-2 and it seems that there is a new zest around the club. However Rangers started the week disastrously and looked as though it was going to continue until the recent signings made things a little better.

Rangers 2-0 Hearts

Arise Sir Pedro Mendes....:)

Rangers won 2-0 today after a bumpy start against Hearts. Goals came from Lafferty and Boyd (pen). I thought Bougherra was good and Miller played well but Mendes was in a class of his own. Nice touches, clean passing and excellent dummies were all part of his play and he rightly won man of the match

Mendes was superb. Only one game into the rangers team and looked at times as if he'd been there for weeks. Should be a class signing, here's hoping for more of this.

Rangers still looked shaky at times, though I thought Papac done well and it looks as though we're headed the right way and ditching the 4-5-1

A good start so far for Rangers and an excellent Debut for Mendes, but he is great little player.
My only worry as mentioned last week will be when you have an away ,match the weather is Sh-te it's under flood lights and he games not going well!! Will he have the heart? This when you will find out if he will be a good signing.

As said last week he likes to where gloves in the EPl, so up in Scotland he'll need a duffle coat and a wooly hat!!!

Papac has been consistent for months now, I can't believe that he is the same Papac that first came to the club. He is a good example of a bad player turned excellent by sheer persistence by the manager to play him.

Good start so far..........replace Velicka with Lafferty though i dont think Velicka is a bad player its just he is a target man and is big and we play two big forwards, we should have one bigger player and a skillful player like Novo or Miller beside them.

Yes this has been a problem with skillful players coming to Scotland, its okay if you can cut it against teams like Celtic, Hearts and Hibs but you need to be able to play well against teams like St Mirren when 10 players will be kicking your heels the whole game. Its when you can still look classy in these games that you are a success up here.

As said last week he likes to where gloves in the EPl, so up in Scotland he'll need a duffle coat and a wooly hat!!! Yeah, he must be dreading playing Inverness away in a midweek game then!!!

Rangers vs Kilmarnock

So we are back to the bread and butter after international action and its the battle of the top two at Ibrox on Saturday. I will be going and will keep you informed how we played.

Will be good to finally see Edu and Aaron.

Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnock

Rangers 2-1 Kilmarnock

Rangers stayed at the top of the SPL after a hard fought victory over Kilmarnock at Ibrox. Recent form had both teams at the top of the SPL with three wins and a draw, Kilmarnock hadn't conceded a goal and must have felt a little more confident coming into this game than they usually would.

The game started at a slow pace with Rangers becoming more and more sloppy as the first half went on. No real chances of note came within the first five minutes and then out of nowhere the ball was crossed into the Rangers box, Allan McGregor unsuccessfully tried to catch the ball and Frazer Wright pounced and made it 1-0 to Killie. The rest of the first half was played out with Rangers frustration and Kilmarnock delight, Kirk Broadfoot came close for Rangers from a corner but his header was well saved by Killie goalkeeper Alan Combe. As the first half was near ending Rangers were still playing sloppily but still looked as though they would score a goal or two.

The second half was much better from a Rangers point of view, the disappointing DaMarcus Beasley was replaced by Nacho Novo and he added much needed pace into the Rangers team. After that it was the Boyd show and when Rangers were awarded a penalty, by a piece of fantastic skill by Novo, Kris Boyd was their to slot it home. Four minutes later Boyd scored again to put Rangers into a lead that they were never going to lose. It was a bit nervous near the end and when Sasa Papac was sent off for a second yellow it was even more nervous but we held on because we are the people!

Rangers travel to Easter Road knowing that a win is a must if they want to stay at the top of the SPL for long. Rangers rivals Celtic play Aberdeen at Celtic park in which is 3 points in the bag, so Rangers must win.

Rangers recent league form has been great with 5 wins and a draw out of 6 SPL matches. However we have came unstuck against Hibs in the past. We need to look out for Riordan because he will be desperate to score the bugger!
