A 41-year-old Utica man drowned Monday night in West Canada Creek in the Herkimer County town of Newport, state police say.

Safet Muhovic of 1013 Dudley Ave., was fishing and swimming with family at about 7:55 p.m. He went to help one of his relatives who was swimming when he went under, troopers say.

Emergency responders found Muhovic in about six feet of water. He was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica where he was pronounced dead, troopers say.

Dear lord I knew this man. I seen his wife and daughters. My old man was a friend of his. I am so shocked. His death has left me really saddened and it really is a tragedy. To make matters worse his wife died of Cancer a few years back and now that he himself is gone, his two daughters are left alone. This spoiled my entire day.

Hmm, seems I missed this thread.

Sorry to hear that, and I am really amazed nobody helped. I mean for gods sake, it's 6 feet of water. Unless nobody else was around?

A couple of years ago here in St. Louis a kid I used to play soccer with drowned in a river which is a really popular gathering spot for Bosnians, and pretty much everyone else that knows about. Well, the part of the river he drowned in goes straight, then a straight 90 degree turn to the left, and then another 90 degree turn to the right. He was in between those two turns and a whirlpool was created. Started sucking him and everyone stood there and watched, nobody wanting to help. Finaly someone jumped in, and of all people it was a black person who had never seen the kid. After about 30 seconds under water, the guy comes out of the water...crying, with his back all bloody from the kids nails trying to hold on. He told people that he was so close to getting him, but the whirlpool was too strong and it took them away from one another. They recovered the kids body afterwards.

I didn't really know him that much, I remember he was on defense with me for the team we played on.

Damn thats pretty sad. Very sad indeed. A very heartbreaking story. I dunno why so many people always get so confused when another needs help. They just stand there watching. As a human being I wouldn't be able live with that type of shit.

I'll have to eventually move this thread to Away from BiH Football..
