View Full Version : Keep this section in ENGLISH!

I'm sorry guys, I don't understand what the big deal is. If you can speak English, why wouldn't you? It's better for everybody if we all use the one language all of us can understand. I'd rather see one big community, than a community divided by ethnic backgrounds.
This is an english speaking community. Let's keep it that way.
It has always been this way, but lately some moderators (and a certain Senior Mod) have been ignoring the forum rules and made up their own rules as they saw fit without consulting anybody. I don't want that to continue.
Again, I'm not saying you can't speak your native language, I'm just asking you to keep it to the apsolute minimum.
For all of you thinking that every section here operates independently from the rest of the board, I'd like to remind you that all of these sections are parts of SFN. They will be treated with SFN guidelines, and rules.
Ok guys! no more Español comprenden?

I honestly don't agree with this rule! Because this is what makes SFN fun well at least for me! I can come here and used both english and spanish. Im not saying im trying to make this section only in English but hey why not used our native language. I think that because of rules like this SFN has been going down and it will keep going down with this kind of rules instead of going up! Thats what I think!

Yo conozco solamente un pequito Espanol... is that right? Well, I don't even know very much Spanish, pero yo puedo usar lo cuando es necesario. Even though the fact this board is in Spanish makes it so I can understand very little of it, I still think you should be allowed to talk in whatever language you want.

This is a multi-cultural football board, most people here come to not only be active in their own ethnic sections but because they can also participate in discussions that's out of their ethnic limits since this forum uses (or used to use) one global language. I really do not want that, which gave us an advantage over other boards, diminishing. Somehow, you guys got that the other way around, I'm as much suprised as I am confused since this rule has always been in effect.
I would be more tempted to be active in this section, but that's nearly impossible seeing that the main language here is Mexican and English is only secondary. As few people stated that they have hard time understanding the discussions here further proves my point.
What do you guys think of a Foreign Languages Section? Would that compensate for this rule to be enforced?

hahaha first of all we dont speak "mexican" we speak spanish.
and second of all, its not like all the threads are in spanish. The majority of the threads are in english with some spanish, we just want to be able to speak our own languages every now and then. thats all

Well go ahead and make an English section then, because for us that's a foreign language. Most mexicans first language is spanish.
Also you say that speaking spanish will turn away other posters. I think speaking only english will turn away even more posters. The majority of mexicans who don't even know english.

SFN wont be nothing without the Mexican Futbol Section. We contribute a lot to SFN. We're the most active section.
We're also very dedicated. The SFN fantasy league sucked, but the Mexican Fantasy League is strong and is going on its 2nd season. The SFN prediction also sucks, the Mexican Predictions league is going on its 4th staright season.

I had a talk with Omar and fortunately (for you guys:)), foreign language does not bother him. However, I have modified the forum rules to bring some clarity to the language rules. Here's the part I added to the forum rules-
LANGUAGE RULES:
Do not speak a foreign language outside the section where that language is considered native. That includes all of the General Football, and SFN Community forums. If you're found in violation of this rule, you will be warned.
My frustration over this was started by the language spoken in the Copa America section, but due to the disrespect I received from some of you guys it got dragged (with Califs help, I might add) to here and other sections. I apologize on my part, but I'm glad we at least now have a certainity as to where you can and where you can't speak a foreign language.
I will not lift chingons ban, but will let it run its course. He will be able to post tomorrow. I strongly believe that his behaviour towards me was ill advised.
In conclusion, foreign language is allowed. But please, for everybodys sake, tone it down a little bit and give the non-Spanish speaking members a chance to participate in your discussions.

Even if I didn't, I am authorized to edit the rules as I see fit. Reason why I didn't want to do anything rash before was due to the uncertainty of language rules (ex. Fenerliyim was in a way encouraging the use of foreign languages), so by fixing the root of the problem I am sure we won't run into this again.

Pfsh goes to show what good "instinct" u had basically u banned a sfn member for telling you the way things shud be.
for one theres no reason to get upset and start banning people only because you feel the need to do so. sounds more like ur scared when ur approached with a situation ur are unable to handle.
as u can see the ban of El chingon was and will remain meaningless on ur part. cause in the end it seems like what everyone else said was right u claimed was wrong, ended being an A.O.KAY on the administrators part.
seems to me since you never got it ur way u decided to rewrite a rule. that shud of been left alone from the get go.
Hope your happy with ur decision.
as ive i have read through this whole discussion.
you like smearing ur power as a senior mod on moderators under urself.
doesnt sounds very professional if u ask me.
not that i have much of a say in this. since im still quite new here.
also my native language is spanish. to me being unable to type it in a forum like the Mexican futbol section. :/
not only that but i will say this.
i have visited many threads through out SFN and they all seem to type or speak which ever way u seem to put it. (he..he?) in there navite languages.
this to me was never a big problem, more like it struck you as a big deal
and for some reason took it out on the *cough* Mexican speaking people?.
goes to show once again i will add that ur suppose good instinct was ill placed.
weather or not u agree with me means very little to me
i would ony like to state my opinion on the matter.
i wud like to give a shout out to all the people that posted here in this specific thread on keeping ur native language active.

for one theres no reason to get upset and start banning people only because you feel the need to do so. sounds more like ur scared when ur approached with a situation ur are unable to handle.
On the other hand, if everybody here were adults we could've all approached this issue with a little more respect and a little less ignorance to even giving the slightest possibility of thought to what I have said. No, no matter what I said, as you see in the thread.. it's like 'NO!, NO!' Stop me if you can! Ban me if you want! We'll all Boycot SFN! I mean come on, what do these people think they are, made of gold? You're all replaceable. The fact I like some of these people helped me not to do what I would normally do in a situation like that. The more understanding I try to be, the more ignorance I see in you people.
as u can see the ban of El chingon was and will remain meaningless on ur part. cause in the end it seems like what everyone else said was right u claimed was wrong, ended being an A.O.KAY on the administrators part.
I banned el chingon due to his choice of abondaning his position of SFN, and turning against the board. Saying "I will not listen to you" or in Spanish "Don't listen to this guy, don't obey the rules" is not good workmanship, I should've taken away his moderator status. But I will let this one go..
seems to me since you never got it ur way u decided to rewrite a rule. that shud of been left alone from the get go.
There is no my way. If this way my way, this forum would work in a perfect harmony. However, too many people are closed minded and scared to adopt to possible changes which would benefit this board and eventually them. They would rather create small groups within the board, and attack each other from time to time which all in all is killing the harmony and the order of the board. I would've consulted Omar about this rule have they been totally acceptable either, since there's a confusion in the rule, but this is what they chose.
Hope your happy with ur decision.
as ive i have read through this whole discussion.
you like smearing ur power as a senior mod on moderators under urself.
doesnt sounds very professional if u ask me.
Seems to me like I don't do it enough, judging by their attitude.
not only that but i will say this.
i have visited many threads through out SFN and they all seem to type or speak which ever way u seem to put it. (he..he?) in there navite languages.
this to me was never a big problem, more like it struck you as a big deal
and for some reason took it out on the *cough* Mexican speaking people?.
If you had actually read and understood every bit than you wouldn't have said this. You see, I never intented for this to be discussed in the Mexican Section. I posted the original thread in the Copa America as it bothered me that I couldn't participate in any of the discussions due to the heavy usage of foreign languages. However, Calif copied the thread here, and here we are. This, in a way, happened because you guys took it upon yourself, so in a way.. You only got what you asked for.
goes to show once again i will add that ur suppose good instinct was ill placed.
I try to look at the positives, I act when I see something wrong. This led to a new definition of the languages rules, and I'm quite happy with that I've done. Besides, it gave me a chance to see another side of our oh so wonderful faces of our mexican moderators.
weather or not u agree with me means very little to me
i would ony like to state my opinion on the matter.
Ahh.. there's that ignorance.
one last thing
Bosanac I'am in no way trying to fight :]
not at all i respect all my senior and...i guess normal moderators.
only stating my O.P
We're just.. talking.

And that's, in your opinion, gay?
Dude stop trying to confuse me 'cause you woun't succed, I said this was gay:
Even if I didn't, I am authorized to edit the rules as I see fit. Reason why I didn't want to do anything rash before was due to the uncertainty of language rules (ex. Fenerliyim was in a way encouraging the use of foreign languages), so by fixing the root of the problem I am sure we won't run into this again.
As I said, there was an uncertainty in the rule that I can't be blamed for, but now I've shed some light on it. All this trouble, in my opinion, was worth it. Besides, Xizor, I am authorized to change the forum rules. I don't need an approval, I've acted on an instict (as I always do) and refused to acknowledge the uncertainty of the rule. I apologized for that, but don't push it.
Worth it, ha you got all the members of this section fired up just because you acted on your "instinct". Plus you even banned a perfectly good moderator just 'cause you couldn't except what he was trying to say, now you come to us and say that Omar was perfectly fine with us talking in a foreign language. Things did not go well for you their, so you decided to make your own rules which I have no problem with, it just shows that when a sittuation you can handdle doesn't go your way you abuse you powers as a senior mod! So there I'm done with this topic, let's just move on! :hat:

Dude stop trying to confuse me 'cause you woun't succed, I said this was gay:
That's why they made a SFN Forum Announcements section so you yourself can post threads regarding changes and Updates to the forum.
There's apsolutely no difference between posting the changes in Forum Announcements or the current Forum Rules thread. They are both to be followed by our moderators. Since there's apsolutely no difference with in which I choose to post, so if the fact I am able to post in one is gay to you, it means mean that.. it is also gay to you if I post in the other.

I accepted what he said, and I granted him a reward for what he's said.
You see, I don't need to get you confused, you get confused on your own. When you asked me if I consulted anybody before making this rule.. ask yourself- how did I respond?
Now ask yourself- What did you assume due to my arrogance? :)
See, confusion, confusion.
The fact that I stated that I am able to do some things (authorized to change the forum rules without consulting anybody) does not mean that I actually do it, you just assumed I do.. Eventhough, I've already told you I didn't. So, what we got to add to the confusion? Yes, short term memory loss. :)

No actually, it's still the same. Only .. you can't speak Mexican out of the Mexican section. Which you would agree with, yes?
It makes the most sense, we at least keep the SFN Community and General football in English.

First off I will point out, would you PLEASE stop reffering the spanish language as Mexico or Mexican, its sounds comepletly racist. Secondly it makes most sense to you to keep the SFN Community in English, the Administrators think otherwise!

No, you see, again you didn't understand what I said.
With SFN Community, I meant the group of forums at the top of the board like Away From Football and the Introductions forum. They will strickly be in English as members from all over the board are visitors of those sections.

How will it bite me in the ass?? your going to ban me now:lol:
Vete a la verga.
If calling an S.mod a verga is no ban worthy, then I dont know hwat is.
I normally go for the neutral, but this is an english speaking forum, we just have to deal with that.
How am I supposed to join a conv if I dont even know what the hell you are talking about. We dont have enough members on the board to start divind us into cultural groups, everyone has to post evrywhere to keep this forum active, and some of you are stopping ppl from participating in threads/topics that might be of some interest to them.
You guys really should respect boss more, telling him to stay out of here is just ridiculous, his job is to overlook the whole forum, and if you cant understand that then.....

I opened it in hopes of, again, try to encourage you guys to tone down the use of foreign languages.
You don't have to engage people in a conversation in a foreign language just because it's your native language. I am Bosnian, for example, but what was the last time you see me speak Bosnian?
I don't because when I say something I want it to be understood by everybody who is willing to read.
It's just common sense to speak a global language in a multi-cultural place. One language, so we all can mingle with our differences.
Use of one language across the whole forum would add a lot more color to the board, and eventually attract more members. Don't you want to educate non-Latinos about your football? Speaking English would invite them here.

You're not allowed to speak foreign languages in General Football or SFN Community categories.
Are you going to give a thought to my suggestion or do I have to lobby and eventually forbid the use of foreign language through-out the forum?

In the new rule it said that you can't speak a language in a section that its considered foreign.
Copa America is combined of mostly spanish speaking countries so i dont get how its foreign.

In the forum rules, I said General Football and SFN Community. Copa America falls under General Football because international tournaments are watched by the whole World not just by Countries participating.

BTW, before worrying what languages we speak why dont you go and try to work on the update?? When is it going to happen??? you should probably worry about that.
You said speaking foreign languages brings down this site's credibility, i think the senior, administrator etc not doing what they're saying they will do brings the credibility lower then speaking spanish.

If you want to talk about this, you're welcome to visit the moderator lounge. For now, don't change the subject.
I'd like my question answered.
I will make sure the foreign languages use is toned down, if not by co-operation than with use of other means. Which road I will take is completely up to you guys.

Wait on announcements until we have a more clear rule but for now if there is excessive dialogue in other foreign languages you can pop in to discussions and tell people to do more English to get more people involved.
Please, don't excessively use foreign languages.
