View Full Version : Name YOUR Brazilian Eleven

I'd like to know what players the Board members feel should be in Brazil's first eleven. I mean, most of these guys play in Europe, and I guess a Milan fan would know more about Roque Junior and Serginho's current form than I would, for instance. Who's playing REALLY well? Is Silvinho doing well in England (I hear Wenger decided to dump him)? Is Djalminha doing well? Would you rather field Elber, Amoroso, Savio, Jardel, Sonny Anderson (I'm grasping at straws here, huh?) or someone else up front?
Everybody: What would YOUR choice be? Do you think there's someone who should be called up but who isn't being remembered?
Just to help out: Brazil WAS playing 4-4-2 with Dida,Cafu, Zago, Lucio and Roberto Carlos;Emerson, Vampeta, Juninho and Rivaldo; Romario and (and there's been a LOT of rotation here)Amoroso.
And the current coach is planning to use a 3-5-2, probably with Marcos (Palmeiras), Roque Junior, Juan (the new Aldair) and Lucio; Cafu, Emerson, Vampeta, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos; Romario and Denilson.
The question is, in YOUR opinion, who's missing from these lineups?

I dunno about Roque Junior but I'm sure that Serginho's performances with Milan should be rewarded with a place in the national team, I'm not sure if he will do as good as he do with Milan, but he may be good enough for the NT.
I still don't know, but isn't Denilson supposed to be a winger, putting him alongside Romario sounds very good to me, he will assist him.
One question, isn't Ronaldo supposed to return?

being an inter fan i say this with no bias, but roque juniors form was HORRIBLE last season. absolutely the worst defender in italy, but serginho played alright.
i don't really want to name a team because i don't know much about brazilian football and may have players in the wrong position, but i'll just try anyway:
GK: marcos ?
D: cafu, zago, roberto carlos
M: denilson, emerson, vampeta, djalminha, rivaldo
F: romario, ??????
i won't put ronaldo in there just yet because he's still recovering. djalminha had a good year at deportivo so i put him in there, but he's getting pretty old isn't he ?
i had trouble finding a second striker, i don't like elber and jardel i don't think would make a good partner for romario. perhaps if you were desperate you could put edmundo in there - they played together with vasco de gama didn't they ?
notice i've only put european based players because i know nothing about the ones in brazil.

my XI
----------------------anyonelsebutdida--------------------------
cafu----------------roque------------zago--------------athirson
-------------emerson-----vampeta------junior-----------------
------------------------------rivaldo--------------------------------
-----------------------ronaldo----elber----------------------------
dida sucks. he's got the fundamentals but he's a rather stupid player who makes stupid mistakes at the inopportune time.
cafu has mastered serie a ! there were always flashes of brilliance from him in previous seasons but he lacked consistency. this year, he was a train that never stopped.
roque and zago both are decent defenders that had pretty decent years.
athirson didn't play much but he's the one of the most interesting prospects brasil have and from the 3 games which i saw him in, he pretty much did whatever he wanted, if you know what i mean, on the field. do you remember antonio cabrini of juventus and italia ? very similar.
emerson - i don't need to say much of him
vampeta - didn't do well with inter at all but the reality is that he never really got the opportunity. and inter suck. i'd give him another chance before i start bashing him because he's got the goods.
junior - PHENOMENAL ! watta player. i don't know about what he did in brasil, but in italy, he knows how to unlock a good ol fashioned italian defense. that should come pretty useful no ?
rivaldo, ronaldo - go without say
elber - a very fundamental component in bayerns european conquest and should be a shoe in for any team. first class !
Marcos/R.Carlos,A.Carlos,R.Junior(though he sucks, but i cant think of another central def), Cafu/Emerson,Vampeta,Juninho Paulista, Rivaldo/Romario, Ronaldo(till he's available place Edmundo - I know, he's nuts, but what a player).
Good old brazilian 4-4-2 with 4 def and a lot of attacks by the sides, 2 def midfielders sharing the midfield and two open attacking midfielders (the classic "square" in the mid), and 2 attackers that move throughout the whole front of attack, always rotating.
