lol seriously with the time difference and all these "interesting" tactics employed by the middleeast countries, we should seperate the AFC into middleeast and Pacific groups.

it's not really korea or japan that employs these interesting tactics. i would say that saudi and iran also play relatively clean games. it's the lesser known middle eastern sides like syria,oman, qatar, etc... that use these tactics

i'm worried too man, i'm not sure what has happened to these star players, alot of them play huge roles at big clubs in europe, new zealand would hammer us with this form, it's a disgrace.

Toky-eyo you wouldn't still be upset because of Australias win in 2006 would you?

If Australia wins the next game we are still in with a chance.

Yeah a little bit, but then again...
we didnt get an absolute drubbing from a team that cant play homegames in there own country because its completely war torn;

Everyone on here is thinkin it;
Im just sayin it;

Australia came in to the Asian Cup overconfident and cocky;
riding on the back of one win in the World Cup
and now, they may pay the price for that cockiness.

and toke, that one win was over JAPAN< you remember? and once we crush thailand, japan's next, but yes the players have come to asian way over confidant, and they got smashed...... serves them right, but if they start playing to the level they can play at, we would beat any asian team.

I think there are a lot of very disappointed, even hurt socceroo supporters out there. Without a doubt, and based on all the reports I've seen, the aussies did come to the Asian Cup with a prima donna attitude, similar to what we often see in some of the European posts.

And there seems little doubt also that coach Arnold doesn't have the experience to match it with his far more seasoned counterparts. Still he should have got better service from his players, some of whom seem to have forgotten how to pass, mark and tackle. Very basic stuff has gone out the window.

I can only hope that some pride is restored tonight against Thailand, who are worthy opponents deserving of respect. A very tough game.

Look at the Japanese roster: Now tell me how many are the same;

I am not saying Japan will win against Australia; nor am I saying they will lose;

You and I both know that football rankings are bollocks, and one day a team will be better...or worse than the next.

The fact that Iraq is war torn is a spur to their players. I saw another interview with some key Iraqi players who said that the mess back home was added motivation to win. Personally, and nothwithstnding Australia's poor performance against them, I think that Iraq could beat anyone in this competition and possibly beyond.

As for the clash with Japan. I think its fair to say that Japan should be the favourites. They have played the better football over three games, are well coached and highly motivated. Australia have had one moderately good game and two stinkers. Of course I hope that they continue to improve and come up trumps again, but I wouldn't place a bet on it.
