Really. Everytime these two teams play each other the question is asked is it a clasico or not. Quite frankly I don't know why it's even a question. Seriously I'm being totally unbias because I can't stand either team. These are 2 of the top 4 teams. They play in the same city. They have rich history and have met several times in the playoffs including the finals. Their games are often said to be the most dangerous to attend because of their porras. So how is this not a clasico. Even though most people don't consider it a clasico I do. And I don't understand why the media or fans don't.

that they are 2 big teams doent mean shit...i mean look at england...chelsea and manchester united...2 of the big teams and obviously there is a rivalry but u cant consifer it a clasico...just like barca and valencia..also a match involving 2 big teams but nothing compared to barca-r. madrid. there can only be one true clasico in one league.

i wouldnt consider that a clasico...in mexico the televisoras and prensa will do anything to sell their product or get profit from something..they want to make a big deal out of everything so people will watch....its two teams that play in the same area....big deal.....did u know that in england chelsea and fulham both play in london??????that is a derby not a clasico.....and tigres-monterrey should not be considered a clasico either...just a local derby becaus ethat is what it is and thats that.

For me a clasico is a game played between two teams from the same city. Or even the same barrio... Otherwise its just another game. I am sure Chivas v America is great but it is not a real clasico... neither is Barca v Real Madrid.. it is just a great game. Even if they call it the derby. And it is probably the most significant in world football. Boca losing to River is the best clasico! If you tell me it isn't true.. I will tell you Chivas playing against Dc United in the sudamericana (jajajaj) is one too. I might admit though Boca v River... America v Chivas or Barca v Real are games that stop the whole country.

hey JrTigres, in your first post you said why don't the media and fans consider it a clasico.
Well, ill assure you america fans and pumas fans do consider it a clasico. There's a lot of hate between both groups of fans. Its the most violent game in the mexican league.

Tigres vs Monterrey, Chivas vs Atlas, America vs Pumas, and Chivas vs America are the only ones I consider a clasico. Cruz Azul vs America I don't consider it a clasico anymore their rivalry is dead and boring. I mean they can't even pack either stadium. A derby would be Tecos vs Atlas. Tigres vs Monterrey is both a derby and a clasico for alot of reasons. It has worked it's way as Mexico's 2nd biggest game. It makes just as much money as America vs Chivas despite having lesser attendance capacities. Wait till the new stadium is finished it's going to be even bigger. Alot of so called experts say that once the new stadium finished Tigres vs Monterrey will be the most profitable game in all of Mexico. Thats how big it is. Please don't tell me noone cares outside of Monterrey. Because I know a ton of people who watch it despite not being from Monterrey. And even though there are chivas fans everywhere the only ones that have a slightest idea of the Clasico Tapatio are people in Guadalajara. And the same goes for America vs Pumas. I was thinking if Cruz Azul had stayed in Hidalgo would Pachuca vs Cruz Azul be a clasico now. La Maquina was only 1.5 hours away from Pachuca.

I think your right in saying that Atlas-Tecos is a derby, but recently its been pretty onesided.......

Well a while back Cruz Azul vs Pachuca was starting to become a Classico but it all ended when Pachuca moved to Hidalgo!

I can sit here and say that America vs Chivas is not a clasico. Just because they have the two biggest fanbases in Mexico doesn't make it a clasico. Tigres vs Monterrey has all the ingrediants of a clasico. It's more passionate then that so called super clasico de america vs chivas. Opinions are opinions but most people think Tigres vs Monterrey is a clasico. And when I say most I don't mean 52% of the population. I mean more like 80% of the population. The rest are just a bunch of ignorant fans who think there is only one clasico in mexico and is usually people who think the clasico their team is in is the only clasico.

America-Chivas is a clasico because of the confrotationa they've had in liguillas, finales ect., its not like one day somebody woke up and said "I think I'll call this game the Clasico nacional" this grew over a long time, and thought it lost some of that in the late 90's and early 00's its starting to become what it used to be, mostly because both clubs are starting to be very competetive.....Tigres-Rayados is a rivalry because they're in the same city, but I dont remember any final with both those teams, i'm sure they met in liguilla but that isnt what started the rivalry.

and most people dont know the diference, when you can make another argument maybe you'll convince me, but from what I see it doesnt have the ingredients of a clasico.

how about stopping the entire nation to watch the game like chivas and america do. i dont see tigres and monterrey doing this. The attention it gets from the media the history of rivalry between the two clubs the number of championships each has one. They are basically competing to see who the best club in mexico is. Tigres and Monterrey are see who the best in their region not the nation. That is why its called Clásico Regiomontano which equal DERBY

You made a great point their danny, I totally get what you mean!
But I still think Monterrey vs. Tigres is a clasico, it all depends on the person who follows the league! Debating on this topic is useless 'cause it's pretty much an opinion but yeah Chivas vs. America is big in Mexico so is Monterrey vs. Tigres in my mind!

i think it all comes down to one thing.......the people....the people whowatch the game and how they feel it...for example in the tigres-monterrey game only the fans of those teams really feel the passion of that game and the neutral fans just watch the game to watcha good football match...but in chivas -america everyone in the nation has an opinion on who should win......its the two biggest aficiones in mexioc and even if u r neutral to either of those teams you still have a preference on who should win..because these two teams are the most hated and the most loved.

i'll say it again, only clasico in mexico is chivas americaPeople who say Tigres vs Monterrey is only a derby and not a clasico becuase they are from the same city. Are you telling me that if America vs Chivas were from the same city it would only be derby and not a clasico. So if they were in the same city Mexico would have no clasicos at all. Is that what you are telling me. America vs Chivas is hyped by the media therefore you believe it. You see how easy it is to say that. Maybe there is a reason why the media believes Tigres vs Monterrey is a clasico. Maybe it's because the games are way better than America vs Chivas. Tigres vs Monterrey is a local thing but also a national thing. The ratings aren't the same but they still generate intrest in the game. Not the team but the game. It's the 2nd biggest game of the year in all of mexico. That alone deserves to be called a clasico. You guys are just fans of you're teams and not the game itself. I watch all kinds of games that intrest me no matter what team it is. If it was week 17 and their were two games left. Those two games were Tecos vs Veracruz for a final playoff spot. and then the boring super clasic of America vs Chivas when both of them were 16th and 17th en la tabla general. Which game would you watch. I would watch Tecos vs Veracruz becuse it has more meaning to it. If it was week 3 then yeah I would watch America vs Chivas. Not because of the teams or their history but because I am a soccer fan. I love great matchups. Some I like more than others. Some intrest me and some don't. And it has nothing to do with it being a clasico or not. Tigres I watch all their games because thats my team clasico or not.
