http://www.theherald.co.uk/_images/db/54/23/0206smith.542304.full.jpg

Gordon smith is his name as most of you will know and he is the new SFA chef executive. He used to play for Rangers, Aberdeen and Brighton.

And also what's your thoughts George Peat's Comments on how O Flower of Scotland should be scrapped in place in for something more upbeat??????

He sure needs to brush his teeths though  I know but we didn't really see his teeth before because he was on the radio but now we see them I think we need a new chief executive.....nah being serious its good that our chief exc. is now a ex-player because for years we have had business men in that position who didn't really care about the state of the game but with him he is going to be serious about the game. Also he has claimed that if the fans are not happy with the way he is running it he will walk out so I will back him for now.

Yeah it sounds like a good deal for the Scottish football that a former footballer is in charge.

Wish him and the scottish football all the best!

I really had to laugh at this this was after George Peat said that O Flower of Scotland was a boring song and Scotland needed a new one.

TARTAN ARMY DRINK ON SFA`S EXPENSE

Scotland fans in the Faroe Islands reportedly enjoyed 'a massive bender at the expense of George Peat' by charging their drinks to the new SFA president.

The Daily Record claims that, having overheard Peat mentioning his room number, members of the Tartan Army charged an entire evening's refreshment to the governing body.

'They downed beer, wine and Jack Daniels at £5 a time until 2.30am and charged it to his room The group are all Airdrie fans and have an axe to grind with former chairman Peat over his role in the club's demise in 2002,' the newspaper reports.

'Publican Gary, 38 - who asked us not to print his full name - said they spotted Peat as he picked up his key at reception in the Hotel Foroyar in Torshavn on Tuesday night. Last night, he said: "It was after 10pm and we had just got back from a night on the town.

"I was sitting in the bar, about 30 yards away from reception, and heard Peat mention his room number.

"It was five or six quid a drink so we thought we could order a few beers and a Jack Daniel's and put it to the room."'
There's a warning to everyone, never mess with Scotland fans

I think we need changes in the whole of scottish football as well as the national team, here are the things I think need changed:-

Reduce Ticket prices
Put games on at a reasonable time
make the national stadium bigger
Produce more youth
Stop the "My Gran is Scottish" thing, it stops some home grown players breaking through
Let the juniors play the bottom team in the third division in a play-off to let those teams break through

I think Gordon smith is capable of doing some of these things and I think it will make us a more successful country at National and club level.

Are there any other things that you think will change Scotland for the better???

GERS FANS TO LEAN ON SMITH FOR EURO FIGHT

Rangers fans are seeking showdown talks with new SFA chief Gordon Smith to demand he joins their fight for a fairer deal in Europe.

Supporters' chiefs from the Ibrox club were disgusted at the lack of backing they received from Smith's predecessor David Taylor in their battle for safer conditions when they follow their team abroad.

But they are hoping Smith's reputation as a "football man" will see him scrapping for better conditions for all Scottish supporters when they play in the Champions League or UEFA Cup.

The Rangers Assembly, an organisation that incorporates 30,000 members, are asking for a meeting with new chief executive Smith as soon as possible.

President Jim Templeton believes the former Rangers player will give him a fair hearing and be prepared to stand up for the fans in UEFA's corridors of power - but not because he once played for the Ibrox club. Templeton said: "Gordon Smith is a football man and I am convinced he will want to see fans of all clubs being treated better than we have been in the past in places like Spain and Italy.

"What we experienced in Pamplona this season and Villarreal the year before is just unacceptable but we did not get any help from the previous SFA regime and we are hoping that this will change now Gordon is in position.

"I was with him two weeks ago at a function and I find the guy very switched on.

"I think it was a brilliant appointment by the SFA and I hope he surrounds himself with other ex-players because they at least will have a feeling for the game.

"I would like to think that as head of the SFA Gordon will listen carefully to what the fans have to say and pay more attention to us than his predecessor did.

"The most important thing for us is to have someone listen to our grievances about the way we are treated when we go abroad to follow our team.

"I would be very surprised if Gordon Smith wasn't willing to sit down and talk to us, even if we could never get David Taylor to do so.

" We made several representations to Mr Taylor and sent him detailed dossiers on the things that had gone wrong when we went to places like Villarreal and Pamplona and we did not even get the courtesy of a reply.

"But we would hope that Gordon Smith will understand the importance of looking after Scottish football fans when they go abroad."

Templeton believes Smith's years of travelling Europe with the BBC as an analyst will have given him an insight into the problems ordinary fans face when they go abroad.

The fans' chief added: "He has been in a lot of the grounds and has seen at first hand the way we have been treated by local police and stewards.

"We will be looking for him to support our bid to get a fairer deal when we travel to European matches - and I am not just talking about Rangers fans.

"If the chief executive of the SFA takes up our fight then I am sure every fan of every club playing in Europe can benefit.

"I know he has a big task in front of him and everybody will be asking him to look at various issues but this one is vital because we do fear that at some point a Scottish fan will be killed at an away game in Europe.

"I think he appreciates the importance of the fans."

Templeton backed Smith's appointment and although many Celtic supporters' websites have been critical of the decision to give a former Rangers player such a powerful position he insisted that the move will benefit fans of every club.

He said: "I am amazed at the paranoia that has flooded in already and the guy doesn't even have his backside on the seat.

"All the talk is of another ex-Rangers man in power. Gordon is far too intelligent to favour one club over another.

"He is a guy with his finger on the pulse and he can benefit every club.

"The guy has got to be given a chance. You can't criticise him when he has hardly had time to warm his chair." Lets hope he does does something because I think what happened in Pamplona was shocking.

I think Gordon Smith will be his usual balanced self and take this job in his stride, hes a good role model and its a bout time we had someone of his calibre in the game. His business acumen is as good as any of the dinosaurs of previous.

SFA Plan To Bring Booze Back To Matches

SFA chief executive Gordon Smith has decided to try and bring alcohol to matches in the SPL. Now I think this will fuel up hooligans and cause big fights, especially at the old firm derby and the Edinburgh derby. Now this country is trying to get rid of the sectarianism, so why bring hooliganism into the mix. My opinion is that each club should decide whether to bring it in or not and if they do the club should be punished if their fans cannot control themselves.

What do you think???

TAYLOR: BERTI WAS THE WRONG MAN

David Taylor, the former chief executive of the Scottish FA, has finally confessed that it was a mistake to appoint Berti Vogts as Scotland manager.

Vogts was sacked in 2004 after two disappointing years in charge and Taylor, now general secretary at UEFA, was held responsible by many for the failure of the German's appointment.

Taylor told UEFA's publication Champions: "I liked Berti personally, and with Eriksson taking over at England it seemed a foreign coach might not be as much of an issue.

"We asked people in the game and they all said we had to get the best man for the job, not the best Scot.

"With hindsight, we under-estimated how difficult it was for a foreigner to integrate with our football culture.

"Some football cultures are just too tight-knit for that to be done easily and Scottish football is one of those cultures." source-sportinglife.com
