The opening of ticket sales for EuroBasket 2007 was met with a flood of internet traffic and phone calls on Friday proving that the event, to take place from 3rd to 16th September in Spain, is one of the hottest sporting events on this year’s calendar.

In just a 45 minute window between 10 and 10:45 Friday morning the EuroBasket ticketing website received an impressive 690,000 hits, forcing officials to expand the amount of bandwidth available to the site and setting a Spanish record for ticket sales over the internet.

In a similar time span operators fielded 80,000 phone calls from fans hoping to get to see the continents premier basketball tournament.

As a result, tickets for the Quarterfinals and beyond, to be held at the Palacio de la Comunidad in Madrid, have been sold out.

However, some tickets do still remain for both the Qualifying Round-also held in Madrid-and the Preliminary Round, to take place in the cities of Granada, Sevilla, Palma de Mallorca and Allicante.
