I have got fed up with how many different threads are made for the one game and I'm going to put my hands up and say it was mostly me but I think we should put all the things to do with Scotland's Euro 2008 campaign this tread.

So what's you're thoughts, I think we will probably win easily but lets not get too complacent because Georgia only managed a 3-1 victory at home to the faroes. It will help us though because Italy play the Faroes on the Saturday and if Italy win by a high score the that will drop the Faroes confidence and then we might be able to storm against them. But if Italy draw or even lose!!! then we would be going for it more than ever. Another big blow for Scotland is the injury of James mcfadden although we did well without him but I was glad when i heard the news he was coming back but then he got injured again :mad2: He just adds something to to the team.
So my prediction is Faroe Islands 1-6 Scotland :). Tell me your predictions

cmon now 6-1 how r the faroes gonna score
Andygers

Well they went to georgia and only got beat 3-1 so they got a goal away from home. And also the game before that they only lost 2-0 to Ukraine so they can't be doing that bad

Ah damm Kenny miller, Craig Beattie and Steven pressley are all out of the squad for the Austria friendly and the Faroe islands euro qualifying game.

Heres Scotland's remaining fixtures: (the ones in teams in bold i think will win, if both are bold then it indicates a draw)
Im going to keep a count of how many points i think we will win as well
Faroe Islands vs Scotland 3 points
Scotland vs Lithuania 3 points
France vs Scotland 0 points
Scotland vs Ukraine 3 points
Georgia vs Scotland 3 points
Scotland vs Italy 1 point
Okay were on 12 the now so adding my prediction points we would have 25 points. Now I don't know if that would be enough points to qualify. so what's your predictions for the final out come????

Hi guys. Here's my predictions for all the remaining group fixtures. I think I've been pretty realistic.
Saturday 2 June 2007
Faroe Islands vs. Italy (Italy 3)
France vs. Ukraine (France 3)
Lithuania vs. Georgia (Lithunia 1, Georgia 1)
Wednesday 6 June 2007
Faroe Islands vs. Scotland (Scotland 3)
France vs. Georgia (France 3)
Lithuania vs. Italy (Italy 3)
Saturday 8 September 2007
Georgia vs. Ukraine (Georgia 3)
Italy vs. France (Italy 3)
Scotland vs. Lithuania (Scotland 3)
Wednesday 12 September 2007
France vs. Scotland (France 3)
Lithuania vs. Faroe Islands (Lithuania 3)
Ukraine vs. Italy (Ukraine 1, Italy 1)
Saturday 13 October 2007
Faroe Islands vs. France (France 3)
Italy vs. Georgia (Italy 3)
Scotland vs. Ukraine (Scotland 3)
Wednesday 17 October 2007
France vs. Lithuania (France 3)
Georgia vs. Scotland (Georgia 1, Scotland 1)
Ukraine vs. Faroe Islands (Ukraine 3)
Saturday 17 November 2007
Lithuania vs. Ukraine (Lithuania 1, Ukraine 1)
Scotland vs. Italy (Scotland 3)
Wednesday 21 November 2007
Georgia vs. Lithuania (Georgia 3)
Italy vs. Faroe Islands (Italy 3)
Ukraine vs. France (Ukraine 3)
Current Standings
Team Pts Pld My Predicted Points
Ukraine 12 5 (+8) 20
Scotland 12 6 (+13) 25
France 12 5 (+15) 27
Italy 10 5 (+16) 26
Georgia 6 6 (+8) 14
Lithuania 4 5 (+5) 9
Faroe Islands 0 6 (+0) 0
If the above happened (I'd be gutted) and Scotland would miss out by 1 point. Everything could change, though, and the key fixtures for us are;
8/9/07 Italy vs. France (I said a Italy win but a draw would be great as both would drop points)
12/9/07 Ukraine vs. Italy (I suggeted a draw but Italy could really struggle)
13/10/07 Scotland vs. Ukraine (I said we'd scrape a win but will be very tough with Ukraine playing for a draw)
17/10/07 Georgia vs. Scotland (Apart from France away this the toughest game left and we will be expected to win. We barely beat them at Hampden so I predicted a draw)
17/11/07 Scotland vs. Italy (Our last game and we'll need the victory in my opinion. If we've still got a chance of qualification the crowd will carry us)
There we go. Sorry for such a ridiculously long post but I had to get that off my chest. I feel better now...

Unlike a lot of people I think the game at home to Italy won't be as difficult as the away trip to Georgia. Although Italy are clearly a much better team, at Hampden that won't matter and I have confidence that Scotland could beat anyone at home. It will be the away games that will decide if we have a realistic of qualification.

Austria 0-1 Scotland
Well i never watched this match but I heard it and we sounded great. You have to remember this was a weakened team we put on the park and we sounded as though we played them off the park. Good to see Garry O' Connor getting a goal on his comeback, Boyd missed a sitter but he sounded as though his work rate had improved greatly. Allan Mcgregor played the first half and sounded good and so did Lee McCullough. We were lucky though when Austria hit the crossbar on the 90th minute. Altogether we sounded really good. ROLL ON NEXT WEEK :D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has any one got any thoughts about Garry O' Connor's comeback performance and his goal. Will Boyd and O' Connor do well together next week, I think they will. Lets hope we continue the "on the deck" football instead of the "loft the ball up the park and hope for the best" type of football that we enjoyed under Mr Vogts. I think the big man has more to show us up front with Boyd helping him, A few goals next week hopefully will build up his confidence even more :)

Yepee we won but come on can any one tell me that we played good, I don't think so. We were slow, we gave the ball away too many times and we just lacked urgency until we wanted to lift it up a level and that is good that we can lift it when we wasn't but the performance was substandard. I thought that after going 2 up we would press to get 4 or maybe even 5 but no we just seemed to stop playing but then we saw the mistakes happening. Christian Lamhauge Holst hit the inside of the post and then Andrew Flųtum struck the bar. Although we hit the post in the first half its annoying to see such a small team getting chances like that against us. Oh well done to Garry O' Connor and Shaun Maloney for there goals.

I agree. A very poor second-half performance and, like Italy, we were lucky to escape with 3 points. The 2 full-backs aren't good enough, Hartley is useless (not based on this game but on his recent performances) and - I know you won't like this one Andy - but McLeish should consider dropping Boyd.

I know you won't like this one Andy - but McLeish should consider dropping Boyd. OF COURSE I WON'T LIKE IT!!! he is the top goal scorer in the Spl, he has scored 4 goals already for Scotland. I've heard the argument that he slows the game down but come on with a goal scorer of his calibre we should make the most of him and I think kenny Miller is the worst of our strikers he misses valuable chances then doesn't make up for them unlike Boyd. So I think we should continue with Boyd....But this is only my opinion

....and of course I respect your opinion :)
My point is that although Boyd is very strong and excellent in the air, when he gets the ball to feet he is not anywhere near as clinical as you'd want or expect from a big static target man. He misses chance after chance and that really frustrates me :mad2:
The main reason that he scores so many goals is that he never moves from the goalmouth and so gets enough opportunities to score at least one of them. Saying that, I suppose 'being in the right place at the right time' is a skill in itself.
We all know when we play a tough away game, McLeish will rightly go for a 4-5-1 with Miller doing the running up front. At home when we need to attack he's going to go for a 4-4-2 with a big man and a runner. I'm not suggesting McLeish should drop Boyd straight away as there's probably not anyone good enough to replace him just now. But OConnor's recent performances have proved that he could play the role of 'The Big Man' up front with a bit more pace and ability than Kris. And in the next few years or maybe even sooner someone like Naismith could replace him (McFadden is also an option at the moment).
So I'm not calling for Boyd to be dropped immediately - I just think McLeish should consider other options.

We now have a three month break until we play our next qualifier against Lithuania. Although this game is quite a long way away I want to know how we should approach it. It is simple we need to win or else we are in trouble. I have no doubt that with a full strength team will win but with a performance like the one in the faroes I am a bit weary. So what is your predictions????
we should play one up against the french any other way and we are playing into their hands, we now have a strong midfield and defence and with boyd and miller each getting a half each i feel that we MAYBE sneak a point , fingers crossed.

miller is not a 90 minute player , he runs his arse off for 60/70 mins then bring on somebody with speed by that time MAYBE miller has tired out their defence and we can sneak a goal.

i think we now have the squad of players who are not scared anymore , BERTIE had us getting hammered every game , we lost our confidence and thanks to great management from walter smith and big eck we have our pride back again, i feel we have a wee chance of qualifying, i hope i am right . the tartan army deserve it.:hat:

It just shows how much we have improved over the last three years.

He's played a few games for the England U-21s and although he can play for both Scotland or Nigeria, England are still his first choice.
There may be hope for Scotland, though, because after being picked for the England Euro U-21 champs squad, he went AWOL and now there is doubt about whether he will ever be picked for England at any level again.
So with nowhere else to go, England rejects like him might be forced to come to play for us

^ With the way we are playing the now there should only be one choice. He would be a fine addition to the squad but I think he would be 3rd or 4th choice up front behind Boyd, Miller, McFadden and possibly O' Connor (in his current form) So if he did decide to become a Scotland player he would have to work hard.

So what's you're thoughts on the game at Pittodrie against the 2010 WC hosts???? With Ferguson out against Lithuania for suspension, McLeish has decided to leave him out for this for this friendly and has made Darren Fletcher captain. James Morrison and Allan McGregor are both out with injuries. James McFadden, Kenny Miller and Garry O'Connor are all being given the go-ahead to play up front and we will be playing a 4-3-3. The other players in the first XI are Craig Gordon, Allan Hutton, Stephen McManus, Jay McEveley, Russell Anderson, Scott Brown and Gary Caldwell. My prediction is 2-0 to the mighty Scotland but this is only a confidence booster but I still want us to win!! Good luck boys

Any thoughts about the upcoming games????
I think if we are lucky we can get 4 points out of 6.
Big blow as O Saraj Fanįtico says with Barry Ferguson being out for the game against Lithuania but Darren Fletcher looked good in his place and should do well.
I'm worried about Craig Gordon because he is conceding too many goals for Sunderland and this might affect our chances.
Andygers
09-03-2007, 09:36 PM
How many points do you think we will take from the double header???
I think:
Six...Highly unlikely. Imagine beating France over there!!!
Four....Could be possible but it would still be great!!!
Three...The most likely, wouldn't be a disaster but could dent our chances.
One.....Bad, this cannot happen we need at least three to still be in with a chance.
None...Lets not go there.
So basically I'm going to be realistic and say we can get 3 points out of the 6 but we could get 4 if we ride our luck. Lets hope we can do it!!!!!!

McLeish aims to keep feet on ground
Scotland manager Alex McLeish is warning his side not to get carried away by their recent successes as they prepare for a potentially decisive UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying double-header against Ukraine and Georgia.
On a high
The Scots are on a high following their 1-0 defeat of France at the Parc des Princes last month, a result that took them top of Group B, and victories against Ukraine in Glasgow on Saturday and away to Georgia next Wednesday would put them within touching distance of their first finals since the 1988 FIFA World Cup. However, the man who masterminded that win in Paris is cautioning an expectant nation that the hard work is just beginning.
'Three cup finals'
"The win against France was fantastic but we can't afford to be conceited in any shape or form," McLeish told uefa.com. "We have reached this stage by being organised, working hard and taking our chances when they've come along. We've given ourselves a chance of qualifying but that's all it is. We now have what amounts to three cup finals to see if we can take the final step towards next year's finals."
Shevchenko threat
First up are Ukraine and despite his well-publicised travails at Chelsea FC, McLeish is extremely wary of the threat posed by Andriy Shevchenko and his likely strike partner, Andriy Voronin. "Shevchenko is a different player when he's playing for the national side," said McLeish. "He has a freedom he doesn't have at Chelsea which makes him harder to pin down. Shevchenko's record at international level [34 goals in 75 appearances] speaks for itself and we will treat him with the utmost respect. Voronin scored a goal for Liverpool last weekend which will have boosted his confidence ... We know what he's capable of."
'Patient'
With Scotland having risen to 14th in the world rankings, McLeish faces the dual task of harnessing the confidence gained by recent results, while simultaneously dampening anticipation levels in a country which now expects Scotland to beat Ukraine and take another three points from a weakened Georgia in Tbilisi. "We have to remember that Ukraine are ranked above us in this group," McLeish said. "They reached the quarter-finals of last year's World Cup and beat us 2-0 in Kiev last October, so they are a good side and we will need to be patient.
'Resilience and confidence'
"To win the game we will need the same concentration levels we showed in Paris, to be at our best defensively and to be creative enough to score the goal or goals we will require to take three points. While it's true Georgia are without some very important players, we saw them against Ukraine [last month's 1-1 draw in Tbilisi] without [Levan] Kobiashvili and [Shota] Arveladze and they played really well. We will face a cauldron there and are under no illusions about how difficult that game will be. But we have good resilience and confidence in our squad and we will continue to take it game by game."

Haha, alright, Well I see Scotland knoncking Georgia around. Especially after their performance today. The problem is, their are playing in Russia I think.
Before discussing about forthcoming very important match between Georgia & Scotland I want to briefly say that Georgian people don't like when they aren't differed from Russians. Why are we compared to Russians? What do we have common with Russia? Why Georgian national team has to play in Russia against Scotland?
Georgia and Georgian people are completely different nation, they haven't anything common with Russians! :mad2:
I want shortly explain that Georgian people unlike Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Polish, Czech, Slovakian, Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, Macedonian and Bulgarian people aren't Slavic people. Georgian nation isn't Slavic nation. Georgia is a very old country, motheralnd of Golden Fleece. Colchis and Iberian kingdoms during the ancient Greece and early Roman Empire were Georgian Kingdoms. You may see the information about our country, here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_(country)
We have our own language, which is neither Slavic nor even Indo-European Language. Linguistics could find more common between Italian and Russian languages in comparison with Russian and Georgian Languages. Georgian language is something really very different... it is unique... You may see the informations about our official language, here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_language
We also have our own alphabet, which is used to write our official language - Georgian. Georgian alphabet was created in 3rd century BC, long before Slavic nations and Russian language were created. Georgian alphabet is also unique, it has neither common with Slavic alphabets nor Latin, Greek, Arabian.... and etc. alphabets. You may see the information and visualisation of Georgian language, here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_alphabet
If your computers could read Georgian unicodes you will see my bilingual signature... upper part of it is written in Georgian.
Eventually I would like to say that to compare Georgia and Russia to each other because of we were part of USSR is very big mistake. Unlike other former Soviet Republics we have nothing common with Russians. We have absolutely different language, alphabet, history...
Georgian national team always plays his home matches in Tbilisi, Capital of Georgia. Tbilisi was founded in 5th century long before Russia existed... The current population of Tbilisi is aproximately 1, 500, 000. In Tbilisi we have several stadiums but the biggest one is Boris Paichadze National Stadium, its capacity is 65,000 seats.
You may see photo gallery here:
http://www.stadiumnational.com/main.php?section=14&lang_id=ENG
The stadium will be overcrowded... The President of FIFA Joseph Blatter and President of UEFA Michel Platini are in Tbilisi now, they are going to attend Georgia - Scotland match.
I think it will be very difficult match for Scotland, we want revanche for losing in Scotland in last minutes...

I still say Scotland wins 2-0. I believe in the power of Beasley, and I not saying anything against Georgia (haha I live in the state of Georiga in the USA :D ), but Scotland is playing like one of the best teams in the world. They look almost flawless both in clubs and NT.
Scotland should come back home with a win.
3-0 is my prediction.

2-0 is a possible scoreline but I feel we are underestimating Georgia too much.
It might be the case, To be honest I don't know a shit about Georgia and their players. (No offence Georgia fans)
However I do know that Scotland is in one hell of a form and with strong performances against both France and Ukraine I can't really see why Scotland shouldn't win this one.

Scotland 3-1 Ukraine
An utterly brilliant result for us. We worked hard but looked a little lost in the second half. Goals from Miller, McCullough and McFadden gave us the victory. I'm so ecstatic LETS KEEP THIS RUN GOING!!!!!!!!! :)
Any thoughts on the game??????
Another excellent result for the Scots. Ukraine are no pushovers and when you consider th two sides on paper you'd probably have though Ukraine had a chance to upset Scotland but it was a great win.
As you mentioned before Andy it could still all come crashing down so don't be too comfortable just yet. A loss against Georgia (doesn't sound likely due to Scotland's great form but Footie is a funny old game) would screw things up big time for Scotland with both Italy and France in good form now. Losing to Georgia would mean you'd need to win against Italy to be safe (depending on other results of course) but a win against Georgia would keep you lot in a great position but still not guaranteed to qualify. Assuming France win their last two games you'd still need a draw against Italy at least if Italy win their next game. It would be very cruel if Scotland didn't qualify now after all they've achieved! Still so many possible outcomes dependant on other results!

Yes I believe this could be the match that could ruin our chances or on the other hand It could take us through (depending on other results). Georgia will be far from easy but it is hard to believe that such a good side on their own ground are sitting second bottom of the table. Georgia has nothing to play for, except pride and this could be our downfall because teams that need to win will be more cautious but the other side will just enjoy the game.
I believe that if we can win this game then Italy might just want to see France crash out of the competition and maybe play for the point at Hampden. All that matters now is attitude and any side that does not have the correct attitude will be the most likely to fail.

Pearson---Fletcher---Ferguson---Maloney

---------------Miller--------------------

McLEISH LIKES SCOTS` MOMENTUM
Scotland boss Alex McLeish is determined to keep changes to a minimum for Wednesday's crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Georgia.
Injuries and suspensions have left the Scotland squad depleted but the mood in the camp remains defiantly upbeat as McLeish's side look to protect their status as Group B leaders.
Scott Brown limped off with a hamstring injury during Saturday's 3-1 win over Ukraine, and McLeish has also lost Lee McCulloch and Garry O'Connor to suspension and Alan Hutton to a calf problem.
Midfielder Darren Fletcher, who suffered a knee injury early on in Scotland's 1-0 win over France in Paris, has declared himself fit again and Reading right-back Graeme Murty has also been drafted into the squad.
Discussing selection issues, McLeish said: "We have 20 players and it's quite a routine job this time around.
"Any one of the players who are on the bench could have started in this game, although I haven't told the players the team yet.
"We don't want to make too many changes and don't like to disrupt the momentum of an entire team."
McLeish stressed Scotland would "adjust accordingly" to the changes forced upon them and gave an upbeat assessment.
He said: "It's a great opportunity and challenge for the guys who come into the team to show me that they are worthy of a place in the coming game against Italy.
"We had a set idea of who we could play. It's just a matter of personnel and systems, and we are ready to adjust if need be."
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Georgi Lomaia has pulled out of the Georgia squad ahead of the game.
Lomaia had a poor game against Italy on Saturday and has withdrawn by mutual agreement with Georgia's team management.
Georgi Makaridze, who is just 17, is set to make his competitive international debut in Lomaia's absence.
Makaridze, who plays for Dinamo Tbilisi, said: "The match against Scotland is very important for us and there is no hope of an easy game." Source- football365.com

Gordon prepared for long haul
Goalkeeper Craig Gordon insisted that qualification for UEFA EURO 2008 was "still a long way off" as he spoke to uefa.com ahead of Scotland's game in Georgia.
'Long trip'
The Sunderland AFC custodian has been impressed with Scotland's performances in recent games, but is not about to get complacent. "We have to keep our feet on the ground and get the four points we require from our last two games," he told uefa.com. "We've had a long trip to get here followed by a game against the world champions [Italy] next month. It doesn't get much harder than that, so it's still a long way off when you think about it in those terms."
Nervy tie
Scotland have defied all the odds to top Group B with two games remaining but any kind of slip up in Tbilisi would be pounced upon by second-placed Italy and third-placed France. However, Gordon remains calm, saying: "We will go into the game looking to get all three points. We've done that everywhere we've gone. From the Faroe Islands to France we've gone there looking for three points and it will be no different against Georgia. If we perform to the same level as in recent matches then we should get something out of the game."
Confident squad
"Our strength has been keeping teams out and taking our chances when they've come along," he added. "I've got a lot of confidence in the guys in front of me and the likes of James [McFadden] and Kenny [Miller] look like they're going to score in every game. No matter who plays up front they're getting goals and that's great for us knowing we have such a goal threat while not losing too many at the other end as well." Source- Uefa.com

Yeah I agree - wasn't sure about the left back, but McEveley's been doing well for Derby so why not? (Although the news is that Naysmith should be fit so I'd choose him if that's true)
As for the formation, although I think its important not to take Georgia lightly - and a draw would be a good result - if we want to win, the best way would be to get an early goal and that's more likely with two strikers on the pitch. The good thing about this team choice is that if we're struggling early on and McLeish wants to go 4-5-1 the midfield can be re-organised easily:
Maloney---Pearson---Ferguson---Fletcher---McFadden

Georgia 2-0 Scotland
It was like a punch in the face followed by a cigarette burn. Scotland lead the group with two games to go and just need four points to go to the promised land. Now surely we would make minced meat of lowly Georgia and then only have to draw with world champions at hampden. So the game started and Scotland actually looked poor :faint2: but we are Scotland so we will take care of this game on recent form. Then after 16 minutes we go down. I will say that again, the all conquering Scotland had gone down in Georgia. It was a great goal by Mchedlidze, a teenager!!!!! Then after that we should have gone for it but no we waited and didn't do much. Half time came and we had to change things but no again we waited and continued to play inept, lacklustre, s**t football and let them play at us. Then came the second, the goal that killed us. Siradze scored and put us to bed then came the agonizing last 20 minutes but we could still not do anything and the game ended and we now must win vs Italy (the world champs), which I highly doubt
But that's Scotland for you, give you some much hope then fail at the final hurdle :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

Georgia 2-0 Scotland
Very disappointing - but not completely unexpected. After a great run of form, a poor performance was bound to happen sooner or later and in a way its better it was against Georgia than Italy.
I've always said this game would be hard and I'd take a draw so I was not that shocked. Georgia played really well but the first half performance by Scotland was the worst I've ever witnessed - and I include Vogts reign in that - but we created a few chances and that was the major difference between this game and previous ones (vs France 1shot/1goal, vs Ukraine 4shots/3goals, vs Georgia 12shots/0goals). Key players like Ferguson, Weir and Fletcher failed to perform and the Georgians took advantage.
Now our chances of qualification look unlikely - Italy just need a draw against us to go through so they will come and defend. But with a full house at Hampden anything can happen and at least we still have qualification in our own hands, unlike England.
There are a few ways we can still qualify:
Scotland Vs Italy
Scotland win - we go through no matter what other results are
Italy win - we go out no matter what other results are
Draw - scotland go out unless 1) France lose in Ukraine on 21/11 or the much more unlikely 2) Italy lose at home to the Faroes the same night
Keep praying guys...

Basically you need to beat the world champs and as unlikely as it sounds it is possible. Scotland have played above and beyond the call of duty most of the campaign as as you clearly won't be the favourites for the game that can be an example. Italy know they'll be out if they lose and all expectation is on them winning which could be an advantage for Scotland. Italy could have a bad day ... isn't the first time so don't give up hope just yet although accept it will take a minor miracle to get through.
I'm in the same boat knowing Israel need to do us a favour against Russia for us to be in with a chance but at least with Scotland their destiny is in their own hands!

Thanks for your suport - I think you a have more positive outlook than me
I think victory is possible, although not probable. It would have been great if Lithuania had sneaked a win against the French because then a draw would have (just about) sent us and the Italians through. As it is, the Italians know a draw is enough for them and will turn up and defend like hell - and nobody defends like the Italians.
Like I've said before, even if we don't make it I'll still be so proud of the way we've played and its a great build up for the big one - qualifying for the world cup in 2010..
(anyway, its not worth qualifying if england don't...they'll be nobody to fight with  ;) )

McLeish rallies troops for Italy game
Alex McLeish insisted "the whole of Scotland should be proud" of his team even though a defeat in Georgia has left them needing to beat Italy to qualify.
Hampden date
A 2-0 loss in Tbilisi brought to an end a superb run of four straight wins for Scotland and saw them slip down to second in Group B, but they know that they can progress to the finals of UEFA EURO 2008 if they beat world champions Italy at home in their final qualifier on 17 November. McLeish said: "To be going into the game against the Italians needing to win is phenomenal and the whole of Scotland should be proud of what the players have achieved."
Missing talent
The display in Georgia was not a memorable one for Scotland but McLeish cut his side some slack. "Maybe our momentum was disrupted by missing players and we were short of the quality we had in other games," he said. "Nobody gets an easy game in Georgia and they have made it difficult for a lot of teams considered better quality than us. To be fair to Georgia, they played a good game. We had four first-choice players missing tonight and that is not a criticism of the players who came in. They are gutted in there in the dressing-room."
'No reason'
Striker Kenny Miller added: "It was a disappointing performance all round. We never really got started. We were not hard to play against as a team and that is what we have been doing in previous games. We knew it was going to be a difficult game and we were prepared for it. We wanted to come here and win and we have the squad capable of coping with injuries and suspensions. Maybe we were overdue a bad result and hopefully we will be back on the boil against Italy. We've won our five games at home, so there's no reason why we can't beat them at Hampden [Park]."

I know you don't want to talk about it Andy but I need to get this off my chest...
Scotland 1-2 Italy
All the pre-match fireworks, partying, the biggest build-up in years all helped to create an intimidating atmosphere - unfortunatelty the Italians are used to that and we aren't so it was the boys in blue who looked intimidated early on.
Scotland were stunned by some quick thinking and a good finish by Toni within 70 seconds. Italy then passed us off the park for the next 25-30 minutes and should have had a second that was wrongly dissallowed. Finally though, the Scots midfield got a grip and we created some decent chances for Hutton and Weir before half time.
HT
The Scotland resurgence continued after the break and Ferguson (from an offside position but never mind :) ) tapped in McFadden's free-kick after Buffon had saved from McCulloch. Italy were struggling and McFadden hit the side netting before stretching and narrowly missing an open goal, set up by sub Miller.
However this is Scotland and as expected Italy stole it in the end thanks to a very good Pannuchi header from a free-kick after Alan Hutton had committed a disgraceful foul by allowing himself to be rugby tackled :mad2:
So it's pretty devastating and the referee got a crucial call wrong but overall I think the decisions evened themselves out.
The great thing about being Scottish is that we celebrate great efforts and don't judge everything by results. The lads did us proud and gave us back the dignity we lost under Vogts. Good luck to Italy and France next year but we will be back :D ;)
Now lets think about 2010...

Lets all get behind Scotland for this competition!!!
They have done us proud and to be honest I am over the fact that we just missed out in the hardest group of all. We have pride back and that is all that counts and I believe that we will just get stronger and stronger. Also we will do ourselves proud in the world cup qualifiers :)
So put your name here if you back the boys to qualify for the World Cup:

Optimistic, lets see if Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland draw each other.

Group 9....I'm reasonably happy.
Was glad to avoid Italy, France and Croatia from the top pot although Holland on their day are as good as anyone. Norway was a tough one from the third pot and Macedonia and Iceland both pose difficult away challenges. Overall, I'd take second place and a play-off spot :D

^^Yeah I'd take that. It would be great if we played Holland away in the first game then if we get anything it would be great, but even if we don't we know we've still got them at Hampden later...........COME ON SCOTLAND!! :D

I don't know guys - away games against Norway and Macedonia will not be that easy also Iceland can surprise
Holland won't win all those games either

Yeah Holland aren't as good as they were when they beat us 6-0 :) so we have a chance there. As I have said before we already beat Norway 2-1 in Oslo and we took care of Iceland home and away before, so that just leaves Macedonia. Now I'm not too sure about them because they have recently drew against England and defeated Croatia, I think we have to approach those games with extra care and not just dismiss them as the diddy team.
Lets hope we can do it!!!!
