Today our club announced that they are very close to start the basketball arena construction.

Tha arena will have a 12,000 capacity and will aslo include shopping centers.

The main sponsor of the project is the Ülker group and the project is estimated to cost 150 million dollars...:smoking:

The Kadiköy municipality will also take part in this project due to the fact that this court will be used during the basketball WC 2010 in Türkiye.

Great news! Now our club will be hosting the UEFA cup finale 2008/09 and even the basketball WC!!

If the Kadiköy municipality joins the project i suppose the arena will be built in Kadiköy. Do you know where exactly? And are there pictures of models/prototypes of this arena? I couldn't find any on Fenerbahce.org.

12,000 is small for what?

12,000 seater stadium is pretty small for a basketball arena. Normal size is 20,000 or so. Well at least in america

Well obviously it's not going to be built in the US....so why use their courts as a criteria?

We dont need 20,000 capacity basketball arenas in Türkiye because we dont have the attendances for it.

If you guys had followed our basketball games you would have seen that we normally have an average attendance of say 1,500 people unless it's a game against our dear rivals or efes.

I watch NBA games regularly and their 20,000 capacity courts doesnt even reach the atmosphere our fans create in a 1,500 capacity big Caferaga arena where our women's team play.

12,000 is huge for turkish standards...i was hoping for a smaller one but i wont say no to a 12,000 capacity court either.

well, in america people arent as fanatic like we are. I mean going to a basketball game for most people is just another entertaintment source like going bowling or going to the movies. Most dont care if their team loses if the game was entertaining. I mean the chants are just D-Fence, or they play some attacking music, and thats just standard throughout the NBA.

I don't understand what this calculating is good for. Let's praise this planned arena that will represent Fenerbahçe one more time to the world instead of racking our brains about the capacity. Seriously, i presume that those people, who planned the arena and claimed a capacity of 12.000, thought very well about this number before talking about it in public, therefore i take it that 12.000 will be alright.

And Cenk, you probably missed my request above: do you know where in Kadiköy this arena will be built, will it be close to the football stadium? (I'm just wondering if there will be something like some kind of "Fenerbahçe Sports Park" or whatever…). And do you have any pictures of the prototype/model?

The arena will be bult in Atasehir which is in Kadiköy not that far from the stadium but still not that close. They had problems finding a good spot for the arena.

The first idea was to build it just behind the stadium, the old Kenan Evren highschool. The project was finnished and everything but in the last minute the municipality changed their mind although Fenerbahce had promised to build 3 new schools somewhere else. Typical...

That project included a big parking house and with the arena on top of it. The municipailty would also have gained the biggest profit out of the project and still they changed their mind.

Now it will be built in atasehir and from what i have heard the location is good with the metro being built close to it if im not istaken.

There are no pictures of the project yet but last time i heard they have used a NBA basketball court as basis for this one.

More details about the project:

Besides the sportshall the project includes a big parkinghouse, cinemas, restaurants, bars and a shoppingmall.

The building will be 6 floor high and will cost around 150 million dollars...that is even way more than the cost of our footballstadium.

The sportshall will also be ale to host concerts.

The Ülker group are the ones sponsoring this project according to the 5-year deal our club signed with them. It's said that our boad wont pay a single dime for the project....but im not sure.

The yearly profit is expected to be around 17-19 million dollars and will be divided with the Kadiköy Municipality the first 7 years. After that the complex will be ours entirely.

The project obtains an area of 50,000 squaremeters. The project is said to get started in 3 months and will end after 36 months....

Seems like a HUGE project....

Well a 12.000 seated basketball arena is like Maracana for Turkish Basketball League but not the European basketball games.
I appreciate these kinds of projects but i always find project owners and architects and those staff to be a lil bit hesitant? Yea.

I read that some people said 12,000 is a low capacity, maybe for the Basketball Championships which is in Turkiye etc, I mean important games yes it is abit small, but just a bit.

When has basketball fans in Turkiye filled the arena?, I mean teams besides Besiktas, Karsiyaka, Banvit etc which fill their small arenas, btw Karsiyaka fill their 5,000 seater arena each and every week, maybe only Karsiyaka can fill a 12,000 seater arena..

But anyways we dont even get 500+ for our league games, besides Gsaray, Bjk and Efes matches, and even in Euroleague we struggle to get supporters, we had 11,000 against Aris and around about 6,000 against Panathinaikos rest of the games we got nothing.

Let's get to the real issue now, Fenerbahce board arent building this arena Ulker is.

This is what rahmetli Islam Cupi means by :- Fenerbahce buyuklugu ne sampiyonluk buyuklugudur ne de kupa buyuklugu, onun buyuklugu baska bir buyukluktur iste.

I hope I made myself clear ;)
