A Serb who has seen the game live, described his experince like this:
( I could not contact the author, Darko Dragicevic, and ask him if I could post his report. I did it in a good faith he would not mind visitors of this site reading it. )

PAKAO U ZAGREBU


Pri samom ulasku u Zagreb Larsen se zamislio i onda nam dobaci: - Dacemo tri komada!

Od samog ulaska u Zagreb sretali smo navijace. Svi su nosili hrvatske dresove, salove. Sve je bilo podredjeno slavlju. Niko jednostavno nije ni pomisljao da Hrvatska moze i da izgubi.

Poslije izuzetno ugodnog rucka u prostorijama nasih domacina krenuli smo na stadion. Rijeka ljudi se spremala za odlazak na "tekmu". Uz "ozujsko" i "karlovacko" pivo spremali su se da napune mrezu Jugoslavije. Prognoze na "Radiju 101" su isle od 3:0 do cak 7:0. Kada bi se javio rijetki realan slusalac koji bi podsjetio da Hrvatska nije ni Malti uspjela dati toliko golova, odmah bi postao drzavni izdajnik. Prilaz "Maksimiru" je bio sav u crveno bijelom. Klicali su Hrvati Banu Jelacicu, Anti Pavelicu, a mi smo morali sutjeti. Veliki problem predstavljale su i ulaznice. Imali smo tri. Dvije za sjever i jednu za jug.

Na kraju smo odlucili da Zlaja i Larsen odu na sjever medju BBB, a ja na jug. Tu smo se razdvojili. Po prvi put ostao sam sam i to medju ruljom rezularenih Hrvata. Na prvom ulazu velika guzva. Tapkarosi prodaju karte po nizoj cijeni od pocetne. Detaljni pregledi! Do ulaza u stadion bilo ih je cak sest. Guzva se nepotrebno stvarala. Prvo bi te pregledao redar, zatim obicni policajac pa pripadnici specijalne policije, a nakon ulaska na stadion - ista procedura.

Hrvat iz Bosne, vidno iznerviran, rekao je da ce uskoro postati nastran ako nastave da ga pipaju. Cuvena splitska "Torcida" zapjevala je na ulazu "I ko ne skace - pravoslavac je". Na moju veliku srecu bilo je ljudi kojima, takodje, nije bilo do skakanja pa sam se i sam izvukao... Na ulaznicama su bila oznacena sjedista i moralo se pridrzavati mjesta koja smo dobili. Pogledam broj na karti 11 red sjediste 38, a tamo, oko mjesta, "Torcida". Gotovo svi u hrvatskim dresvima i prezimenom Boksic na ledjima. Jedan od njih gotovo kroz smijeh rece:

- Kaj nas tisak pise, da ce biti 4-5 tisuc' Srba. Nema ovdje ni jednog.

Ima, ima - pomislih u sebi i okrenuh se terenu. A, na njemu umjetnicki program sa hrvatskim nacionalistickim pjesmama. Ne mogu, a da ne spomenu Vukovar. Sluzbeni spiker u nekoliko navrata ponavlja kako ce se slavlje nastaviti i na Trgu Francuske revolucije gdje ce se peci vo i piti pivo.

Prvi na teren "Maksimira", od Jugoslovena, izlazi Dejan Stankovic. Deki se saginje, dodiruje travu i krsti se, a tribinama odjekuje: "Ubij, ubij Srbina"! Izlazi i Ivica Kralj i on se krsti, a Hrvati samo vicu: "Ivice, ustaso"! Sinisa Mihajlovic se odvaja od reprezentacije i odlazi do zastave "Vukovar '91". Pokazuje srednji prst i smijuci se vraca nazad.

Izlazak hrvatskih reprezentativaca donosi euforiju. Gotovo svi burno pozdravljaju "vatrene". Reprezentacije zatim izlaze i sluzbeno na teren. Jugoslovenska himna je ispracena salvama zvizduka, dok je na taktove "Lijepe nase" 90 odsto prisutnih diglo ruke i pozdravilo nacistickim pozdravom. A neko prica o hrvatskoj demokratiji i kako je fasizam mrtav. Na "Maksimiru" fasizam je zivio i to "punim plucima". Uslijedila su skandiranja Dinku Sakicu, Nadi Sakic i, naravno, poglavniku Pavelicu. U sebi psujem, prosto ne vjerujem da neko na kraju dvadesetog vijeka moze od fudbalske utakmice da napravi bitku na zivot i smrt. Utakmica je pocela.

Prvi kontakt i odmah prepirka na terenu izmedju Mirkovica i Asanovica izaziva nevjericu medju navijacima.

- Kaj se Srbi kurce, ovdje se dosli tuci. I taman kada se atmosfera stisavala uslijedio je sporni sut Sukera i novo skandiranje. Okrenuh se i medju ruljom vidim i jedno poznato lice. Lazar iz banjoluckog naselja Budzak. Ni on sam ne vjeruje da sam ja tu. Pokazuje mi da sutim i polako prilazi. Boksic uskoro trese mrezu. Na jugu je haos, na sjevernom dijelu stadiona bacaju baklje. Na srecu, euforija kratko traje jer je uslijedilo izjednacenje. Moje srce puno, a ne smijem da pokazem. Moram se kontrolisati. Nova sansa i 2:1 za "plave". Muk na "Maksimiru". Niko ne vjeruje. Doslo mi je da zapjevam "Jedan je Stankovic Dejan!". Sutim i gledam u Lazara. Ceska se po bradi. Vidim da je prezadovoljan. Iskljucenje Mirkovica donosi nadu Hrvatima. Mirkovic je "jug" pocastio sa tri prsta, a oni su uzvratili uvredama i pokazivanjem "srednjaka".

Pocetak drugog poluvremena i izjednacenje ponovo vracaju nervozu. Tresem se. Samo da ne prime gol. Minute teku kao casovi. O, boze hoce li se ikada zavrsiti?

Lazar mi dobacuje:

- Vidi onu dvojicu, sigurno su Srbi. Nisu mrdnuli od kada su dosli na utakmicu.

Kraj se blizi, a Mijatovic solo prodorom mami uzdahe.

- Kaj ga neko ne slomi, majku mu cetnicku - dere se jedan iza nas.

Hrvati su sve tisi, a kada njihovi reprezentavici krenu vracati loptu salve zvizduka. Blazevic vrsi izmjenu. Iz igre vadi Boksica, a jug ne moze da povjeruje. Citava "Torcida" skandira "Ciro, pederu" i Alen Boksic. Ulazak Simica i Biscana mozda su dvije najvece greske Blazevica kao selektora. Na samo nekoliko metara izbija tuca izmedju izmedju Armade i navijaca Sibenika. Po prici, oni ratuju zbog nerasciscenih racuna iz prvenstva. Policajci brzo intervenisu i trojicu momaka prebijene iznose sa tribina. Kraj je sve blizi. Gledam u semafor, 82. minut. Kako vrijeme sporo ide. Srce kuca, a Hrvati sve nervozniji. Nema pjesme, samo tajac i muk.

Lazar me zatim gura, pokazuje 1:1. Shvatim, u Skoplju su Makedonci postigli gol. Lazar nesvjesno rece:"Ovaj nam rezultat odgovara".

- Kaj nam odgovara, imamo bod manje - pita se mladic do nas. Znam ja sta je Lazar mislio. Sudija pokazuje jos tri minuta nadoknde. Cuje se:"Pomozi, Boze".

Pjevam iz sveg glasa, a stisnuo sam tri prsta u dzepu. Bile su to najduza tri minuta u mom zivotu. Hrvatima vrijeme leti. Zar su vec prosla dva minuta, pitaju se. Aranda svira kraj, a "plavi" trce u zagrljaj. Meni srce puno! Od srece krenuse i suze. Radosnice.

Prilazi mi jedan momak, udara po ramenu i tjesi:

- Ne placi, bu bolje!

- Kud bolje od ovog. Idemo na Evropsko prvenstvo, direktno. Umjesto slavlja, oni su tugovali. Izlazimo, a divljanje huligana pocinje. Na Ininu pumpu u dogovoreno vrijeme dolaze Zlaja i Larsen. Doslo nam je da se smijemo. Trebalo je izdrzati ovaj pakao. Svi tuzni, a mi bi najradije zapjevali. Niko ne vjeruje da su ispali, da ne idu na Evropsko prvenstvo. Nacinalna euforija se pretvorila u nacionalnu zalost. Bilo je po onoj narodnoj: Pravi se razanj, a zec u sumi. Vracamo se kod domacina. Veselju nema kraja. Nazvali smo svoje u Banjoj Luci i culi za slavlje.

Sutradan je uslijedio povratak. Ponovo bez velikih problema. Jedva smo cekali da predjemo granicu, na pola mosta Larsen se kroz prozor proderao:"Srbija"!

Dobro je, vracamo se zivi, a bili smo medju 40.000 napaljenih i na sve spremnih Hrvata. Pjesma se ori autom. Putujemo Republikom Srpskom. Nikada mi se nasa Republika nije cinila ljepsa, niti ljudi normalniji nego tada. Uskoro dolazi i tabla Banja Luka. Sada slijedi put u Holandiju i Belgiju. Mi razmisljamo o tome, a Hrvatima ostaje da EURO 2000. gledaju - na televiziji.

This is the first time I'll have to take side of my 'fellow' serbians.
This Ausie-Bosanac givin' lessons about history makes me lough.
I'll give you a lesson:
Bosnia is geopoliticaly a part of Central-eastern Europe. A part of Croatia and Serbia throughout history until Turkish conquering.
It then became inhabited by the moslim's that made worst war crimes for 700 years in these areas. Worst crimes of all were changing of the religion by force of most people that lived there at that time. Obviously you were stopped at, what is these days called Krajina (vojna krajina) by the Austrian and Croatian army that stopped further conquering of the western europe at that point. These crimes can never be recocnised and punished these days obviously as it is 'ancient history'. So stop bragging about your country and passport as you are probably a descendant of a Croatian or Serbian family that had been so cruely punished at this dark moment of european history. I therefore salute Mihajlovic and all these guys that actualy know who they are and where thay come from. You my friend go and discover your roots. You might find some scarry moments there. If you want more history lessons you're wellcome. It's too obvious that you live so far away and have never been thought these things except by your parents. You are so wrong you make yourself a clown. Yes Bosnia is a country these days but don't brag with it's origins. They are truly and honestly dark and sad. Thank you.

My fellow boyz, i clap for you effort to go and learn something but when you do, don't do it so "basically". Look in depth my friend. The ottoman emire was one of the greatest empires ever. However this does not excuse what theyu might have done to certain individuals. If you read the fine print you will see that no-one was forced to convert, it was volunterily, those who wanted to did those who didn't they didn't!! Lets also not forget the time the Ottoman emipre was around, don't forget that with time the human race is supposed to evolve and learn, so you can see where those (if any) crimes from 15th and 16th centuries came from. But the sad thing is that in todays world, a modern, scientific society we have witnessed crimes against humanity that many never imagined could happen. We have heard of people being skinned, scalped, not fed properly for months and beaten in concentrartion camps, whipped, decapetated, lashed, masacered in hundreds and thousands at once, don't forget the distractions of cities like Vukovar, the desimation of a populatio like in Srebrenica where 40 000 people were forced to abandon the city, nearly half went missing, just over 5 thousand bodies have been found and excavated in 2 mass graves sites. The forcing of just under a million Kosovars to flee their homes or be killed because there is a few of them speaking for their rights. All this in the 20th century, please you tell me what barbaric acts are these??? The world hought such hatred would have disapeared with the lesson Hitler tought us but hey it seems that in the Balkans the only lesson he though the Cros was to follow his lead and the Serbs to live in the past for eternity and avange the death of every one of their ancestors, no matter how and in what amount as long as revange is present. And BBB keep on taking sides, coz you can't fight on your own, i don't need you nor them i am gonna post what i think and what i want i don't care if you agree with me or him or the African among us, i really don't care, especially with the knowledge that you are 14 years old. But at least you know that Bosnia exists, you didn't up until now coz you had that Tudjman up there, but then God smiled upon this wqorld and sent us Mesic, a man who does not support the self proclaimed Herceg Bosna and says that all cros in Bosnia are Bosnian citizens and not Croatians, he da man!!! the Muslims have obtained a country in the balkans because of the war between Serbs and Croatians....once the peace prevails between the two, the Muslims will no longer have their 'country'....Bosnia should be devided by the Srbs and the Croats into two parts....the present Muslim part should go to Croatians and REPUBLIKA SRPSKA should go to Serbia....this is one of the points which we can and should work out in the future....the Muslims have always been a minority in the balkans and they shouldn't have their own country....you see, one of my best friends is a Muslim from Irak....and i don't hate them as a entity, i only have my own political views....
