I realised something the other day. (If its wrong then I apologise because I haven't checked these facts and am doing them based on my own knowledge)

Only twice in our country's turbulent footballing history have we beaten the reigning world champions.

We beat the 1966 champions (England 3-2 at wembley in '67 :D :D :D )

...20 years later...

We beat the 1986 champions (Argentina 1-0 at hampden in '90)

...20 years later

We play the 2006 champions (Italy at the San Siro and later Hampden)
