Sunderland boss Roy Keane has conceded he is unlikely to be able to keep Jonny Evans at the club.
Evans joined Sunderland from Manchester United on loan until the end of the season in January.
The Northern Ireland international has been a revelation on Wearside and Keane has indicated he would love to keep the youngster at the club on a permanent basis.
However, Keane admits it is highly unlikely that Sir Alex Ferguson would consider letting the highly-rated defender go.
"Jonny has got a chance (to be a top player)," said Keane.
"I spoke to the Manchester United manager (Ferguson) about him on Friday and he's got a chance.
"But keeping him long-term? There's more chance of England's cricketers winning the World Cup.
"His valuation goes up every week."
Keane never had a chance of signing this lad on a long term deal. He's been tipped as one of the reserves star players for some time and is one of Fergie's favourites. He'll break into the first team in the next season or two but it will be tough with Ferdinand and Vidic. The next Wes Brown methinks....
