Australia is recently leading Asia FIFA ranking due to WC 2006.
Australia qualified to 16th round but they only beat Japan.
Australia have one win one draw and 2 loss.
Countries like Korea, Japan, Iran, Saudi Arabia were in much harder group so it was not possible for them to get good result like Australia.
By the way, Australia may have influenced from WC in 2006, but they recently lost to Denmark 3 to 1. I don't know why they are ranked that high.
I don't think Australia deseves that much.
I guess Australia deserves to be between 30th to 40th.

that's a good point. korea had an identical result at wc2006 but were unlucky .. they beat Togo 2-1, tied France 1-1 (eventual runners up) and lost to Switz 2-0.
also in recent friendlies korea beat greece 1-0.
before world cup korea beat USA 3-1, Mexico 1-0, beat Bosnia 2-0... i don't know why this ranking and fifa ranking system is so flawed... i mean did you look at some of the countries in the top 30... BS...

I agree with you.
Korea is 100% better team than Australia.
Guess what, Australia and Japan will not win Asian Cup 2007.
Mark my word.
I am not a psychic, however my prediction has always been right.

the rankings dont mean much,
if the rankings actually meant something, such as the top 32 entering the world cup, then we might actually mean a lot, but then, looking at todays rankings, only Japan and Australia would quailfy for the World Cup.
Forget the rankings, when France won World Cup in 1998, they stayed second behind Brazil. They stay there because they won like world cups 30 years before.
So forget the rankings, and show your stuff on the pitch, mainly Asian Cup 2007, and then see who is the best in Asia

Lets face it, none of the APAC NTs are fantastic...so does it matter whether Australia is ahead or behing in the rankings compared with Japan, Korea, China etc....
Its only going to be interesting talking about these NTs when (if?) they start to beat the Euro and S-American teams on a regular basis.

I agree but I don't agree on Asian Cup stuff.
Winning Asian Cup doesn't prove that the team is the best or not.
Look at Germany. Germany won Euro Cups more than any other European countries around the world. But do anybody rate Germany the best in Europe?
No!!!!!!!!!!
Si winning Asian Cup 2007 doesn't mean anything much either.

If you win the Asian Cup, then this prooves you are best in Asia...
I know for example, South Korea haven't taken it seriously in mthe last few editions, but thats there own problem.
The Asian Cup should be taken seriously such as the World Cup
If you win Asian Cup, then you progress into Confed Cup and then earn more points to rise up the rankings.
The rankings don't mean much to Europeans but i know they mean an awful lot more to Asians. For example they'd rather be top of Asian Rankings than qualify and win big tournements... rather strange to the Europeans

if you look at korea's track record against euro, concacaf, and south american teams it's actually pretty good unlike saudi, iran or japan

i agree koreans don't take it seriously at all. it's stupid i know! they place more emphasis on olympics than asian cup... grrr so dumb. korea doesn't even field their best players most of the time and uses subs to play in asian cup.

i think its a case of the koreans thinking they were a step better than the rest of asia, after all they have qualifyed for a lot more world cups, but it does seem strange how they seem to count other competions such as olympics a lot higher, maybe its just easier for them to compete in and go further in the comp, and then they feel good against mediocre oppostion

ii think koreans go by the # of people watching the event. they don't see asian cup as something anyone watches.. but i personally think this is archaic and dumb way to think about the competition...particularly when other asian countries take it so seriously and rub it in korea's face when they beat them.

i don't think australia is shlt but certainly overrated by the western dominated media. beating japan is no real accomplishment but they seem to think it was a huge feat. korea has beaten japan so many times... korea seems to have good competition with saudi and iran, maybe now australia. i would really like to see korea vs australia. lot of australians don't really follow soccer or never did until 2006... so they think things like these rankings are a reflection of the power of countries when really in reality they don't mean much. for eg. greece is ranked 16th and korea 51st by fifa, yet korea beat greece... in no way can you predict outcomes of games using these metrics. are you really telling me serbia and israel are 20 points ahead of korea? give me a break.

FIFA's ranking is a joke!:boo:
I don't understand why Korea is behind Iran, Saudi Arabia and China!
There is no way China is ahead of Saudi Arabia.
