Veteran striker Dion Dublin believes Manchester United's all-conquering side in the 1990s is still ahead of Chelsea's current crop of superstars.

The Norwich City ace, who played for The Red Devils between 1992 and 1994, is set to line up against Jose Mourinho's champions on Saturday.

The Canaries go head-to-head with The Blues at Stamford Bridge this weekend following their thrilling midweek extra-time win over Blackpool.

Dublin acknowledges Chelsea have a vast amount of quality in their squad, although he feels they are still behind United in terms of the Premiership's greatest.

He said: "Chelsea are up there with some of the greatest teams I will have played for or against, but I find it hard to look past the United team I was involved in with Robson, McClair, Hughes and Cantona.

"I find it hard to look past that one, but Chelsea are probably a very close second or third with Arsenal in there as well. That United team, though, was the best ever known in the Premiership."

Norwich have it all to do to find a way past Chelsea this weekend and Dublin has admitted it would be a massive surprise if they shock Mourinho's troops.

"It would be a massive shock to us if we could beat Chelsea," he continued.

"It would probably beat Cambridge getting to the quarter-finals as well because of the structure of the game at the moment.

"I possibly don't think I'd get another chance like this. We're up against the most expensive squad in the world, but it's the FA Cup and we shall see."

Well said Dion ;)

I thought the best United side was just before the CL win. As good as he was, but for Cole's knack of finding the goalkeeper's legs with close range chances, the CL would have been won much sooner.

Still not as good as Liverpool clubs of the 70's and early 80's :D

Quite possibly.

But the game changed since then what with new rules regarding backpassing, tackles from behind being outlawed, intent being removed from the definition of a foul, yellow cards and subsequent dismissals following 'fouls' that once were not fouls.

Those great Liverpool teams had good footballers throughout. But there were plenty of players there who maybe would not have been able to cope with being unable to backpass and certainly some who would not have lasted 90 minutes with the way yellow cards have been dished out since the mid to early 90s.

You've gotta be kiddin! You could get away will allsorts back then! Football was a lot tougher in the 90's and even stricter now. I was watching the 1991 FA cup final between Forest and Spurs last night on ESPN and there were loads of two footed sliding tackles going on and players weren't even being warned

I dunno.....the treble team was class.....but it had David May/Ronnie Johnson and Jaap Stam at the back.
If you go back to the first Premiership winning side...('92/93?), the team was brilliant!!! With Dolly and Pally at Centre Back. Incredible!!!

Well the best teams tend to be decided upon what trophies they win. The Treble side is said to be best because we won the treble but if you look at the European Cup win we were pretty lucky in the end. I thought United were at their best that year though but in other games such as the win against Juventus. The early 90's team was also very good but I feel a team is only ever as good as they play on the day.

I've never really gona along with that. You could argue that given the way the game went...but there are two things that stuck in my mind that night.

Bayern scored from a free kick that wasn't a foul. But for that, it's likely United would never have been behind in the first place.

I also remember being surprised at the starting line-up which, I felt, gave Bayern more of a chance.

Sheringham, at his creative peak in the proverbial 'hole', left out while the lightweight Blomqvist was selected in a team already having Beckham and Giggs for wide roles.

If he'd begun, the biggest threat to United would have been complacency in going 2 or 3 goals up by half time.

...what's the news there? 90's United could have easily beaten any side of any time period.

We were strong, youthful, courageous, and spared no one.

Every match during the Treble season was played as if it were against Arsenal or Liverpool.

70's and 80's Liverpool is scarred with much scandal.
