First Turk to play for Greece

An ethnically Turkish young man from Western Thrace has become the first from his region of Greece to wear the uniform of the national Greek football team. Mumin Huseyin played February 6 in the match between Greek and Albanian junior national teams, wearing the Greek national uniform, and becoming the first ''Turkish Greek'' to do so in the process.

Born in the village of Pasio, Huseyin's role in the first match of the season for the junior national team has caused excitement among Greece's many ethnically Turkish citizens, for whom the thought of having one of their own play on a national team was, until now, unthinkable.

When asked by reporters to comment on how it was being a Muslim player on a Greek national team, Huseyin said this: "In football, there is only one religion: the ball itself."

But what can I say about a person like Mumin? Pomaks have no indepedent homeland - he was born and raised in Greece and he met no other country in his life. Greece is his homeland even if he is not a Greek genetically. Pomaks are like the Gypsies, they belong to the country they were born and raised.

Many of the biggest national teams are multi-ethnic. Look at Germany and France. Germany made the semi of WC 2006 with Podolski the Polish player who was their best scorer. Germany made it to the final of WC 2002 with a goalie who is Hungarian (Kahn). Several French players are originally from African soccer leagues.

You dont have to generalize it, also I think you must have missunderstood us there, because we didnt said we wants them, but the opposite of that if you have noticed, So we were not talkin about that the whole discussion between us was about their ETHNIC BACKGROUND!!!
