I'm heading off to OZ in a couple of months from the uk and being a mad footie fan i need to know what the football is like?
Is football big in OZ?
Do many people go the games?
Who are the big teams?
What does it cost to go to games?
Anything on the oz game would be helpful as i couldnt stand going more than a week with out football,

Hi, You are going to be a little late... for the season. It finishes in a couple of weeks... however two of the top teams will be involved in the Asian Champions league in March April and May there will be a game each month in Sydney and Adelaide. Then in August the quarter finals and onward, if they get through. The league starts again then too. But to answer your question... Melbourne averaged about 30k and for a couple of games 50,000. They are likely to win the championship overall, having already wrapped up the league... also Brisbanes and Sydneys teams have averages of about 16k. With 30k plus for some games... I think they will get more for the champions league, as there are many Asians in Sydney.
It will cost you about 10 to 20 of your pounds to go to a game. I would recommend that you catch aN AFL (aussie rules football) game in Melbourne or Any big city, they are always very interesting for the crowd size and unlike in your city, the fans can sit together and don't have to be segregated!! Ok its not football but it will give you a good idea about Aussie culture! Also they are in the best cricket stadia in the world, you can think about the ashes whilst you are there!!
There are seven teams in total from Australia plus at this moment one in New Zealand. They represent the big cities and regions around the country and one per city. The league is in its infancy but it is already well developed.. with the likely expanison to a 10 team league or more soon.
Hope you enjoy my country and remember to take sun tan cream, and a hat!
