Japan also have a big chance winning the Cup as long as Australia, Iran or Korea get eliminated in halfway.
I am actually more positive that Japan won't win this time.

i am not so optimistic about korea's chances anymore actually... only 14 days to train and now the team captain kim nam il is out of the squad with injury. this is basically korea's b team in asian cup.

like in the other posts... also western media is totally biased and constantly undermines asian countries... a lot of euro snobbery and ignorant americans ... frankly australians are good but most australians know nothing of asian football or football in general . i rememberi was watching at a pub in germany the japan australia game and all the auzzies kept asking me to clarify rules of the game...lol

ha ha...
Some of us know a bit about the game but you're right in saying Asian football has been overlooked. Traditionally the focus has been on the European leagues but that should change over time.

ya i don't think asian countries get the respect they deserve. just look at how japan's u20 side destroyed scotland 3-1.
also korea u20 side dominated usa but unfortunatley the scoreline didn't reflect the domination.

thats right people i'm back for the asian cup!, who missed me??
anyway australia will win the asian cup!, the only teams that could beat us are japan, south Korea, and iran, i've seen you guys go on about how australia hasn't paid enough respect to asian teams, but the fact of the matter is, australia has the best players by a mile, i think asia hasn't paid enough respect to australia!, and they will find out how good we can be.
ps, if the aussies don't win, i hope South korea win, i've always liked how they play!, and who can forget 2002, that was great.

thanks for the support! australia is very strong but i wouldn't say they have the best players. is viduka playing striker? he is certainly very dangerous. he can face off against his old boro teamate lee dong gook.

The strongest contenders will be S.Korea and Australia.
But between these two Australia will probably win it because most of their star players will be in the line-up unlike S.korea who are misssing many of their top star players due to injury. Still i would have prefer S.Korea to win it.

I think S.Korea will win as well, Australia is in need of a better coach, even though they probably have the best individiual team around atm.

thats a good post, i can't believe how crappy australia played, we do have the best individiual's in asia, but if we don't pull together as a team, were going to be going home early!, and watching japan last night, they didn't look that good either, so lets see how south korea and iran go.

the powerfailure did seem to affect the koreans more adversely than the saudis. the penalty kick was total BS typical "interesting" football played in that part of the world which australia has also witnessed first hand now... i was disappointed the auzzy ref awarded the penalty because almost every sports commentator said it was a BS penalty. but i have to hand it to saudi for creating an excellent chance at the end of the game

I think Korea has more chance than Japan. Have you seen Japan playing against Qatar? Japan is quite outclassed this time. They have no chance this time.

anyone who watched australia in the world cup will know.,... that team was 6 goals better then the effort these boys are putting in at the aisan cup, the coach we have now sucks, and the players are in massive form slumps, how can they be great players in the EPL, and stuggle so much in the asian cup, it doesn't make sense, harry said it best after the loss, the players need to pull there finger out, and have a go, there like a Fgrade team at the moment, it's a joke.

ya i didn't think they'd win the tourny but i didn't think they'd lose to iraq though...

It's hard to tell. Australia was easily the best Asian/Pacific team in Germany 2006, but that could be because Hiddink knew how to get the best out the players.
judicatormd
07-14-2007, 03:54 PM
don't forget though they had 4 points that tourny, same as korea but advanced due to the other teams points... korea had 4 points against france who were better than brazil that tournament.
