"Cristiano Ronaldo's agent claims he offered the Portuguese star's services to reigning European and Primera Liga champions Barcelona prior to last year's World Cup.

Jorge Mendes made the admission in Spanish daily sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo on Wednesday, but said Barca turned the offer down as they were planning a swoop for Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.

The agent added it is now highly unlikely the 21-year-old will leave Manchester United after turning in a series of scintillating performances this season.

Mendes said: 'At this time it is impossible that he can go there (Barcelona) because Manchester would never let him leave, not for all the money in the world.

'He is happy in the Premiership and he will not put pressure to force a departure.

'I did offer the player to Barcelona some time ago (April-May 2006) but Barca turned him down because they told me they were considering signing Henry.'

Ronaldo joined United from Sporting Lisbon in August 2003 and was strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford at the start of the current Premiership campaign."

Yea I read that earlier and though why on earth would he admit to that? He has no right to offer the player to anyone without the clubs permission. All paper talk. He's been linked with a move to Real again and I'm sure they'd love to have him but it won't happen this or next season. Depends if Fergie can convince Ron to sign a new contract. He won't want to lose him but we also won't want to lose him for free. His contract is till 2010 so he can forget about leaving before 2009.

We don't actually know what he wants. Everything to do with his happiness has come from the press. As if the player or club are going to air their views to the media. The only thing we've heard is from the players agent and it's his job to find the best deal for his player so time will tell.

Obviously not this season. As for next it's upto the player really. Fergie won't be under any pressure to sell but he'll want him comitted before his contract runs out in 2010 so if he hasn't signed a new deal by the end of next season Fergie will be forced to sell. I don't see why he wouldn't sign an extension though. He's still young! Everyone thought he wanted to leave after the World Cup be he signed an extension. That's not the sign of someone who wants to leave so as long as Man U are winning things he'll be happy to stay I think.

If we end up at the end of the seaosn with nothing I think he might consider it!
