But really who cares. The Asian Cup is a joke. It is not even recognised by FIFA.
Its a bunch of shit quality teams playing eachother. Its ugly to watch.

it all sounded good and decent to me. I dont know what this hellas in on but I would get my money back. He knocking Japan and Australia but both these teams would beat Greece s butt anytime. That game the Australians played against Italy could have gone on for another hour, and they still would not have scored. So I really dont know what your gettig at. Italy had 10 men for most of the 2nd half and the Australians could not capitalize.
Against Japan, Tim Cahill should have been called for a foul in the penalty box, and the game would have ended 2-1 Japan, but this is football, some calls go against you, some dont. So please lets stop about that penalty against Italy. If you have watched any football in your lifes it was always a 50-50 call, and the credit goes to the man who received the penalty.
Welcome to football Australia.
And just to add Australia only won 2 games that is worth mentioning in their whole World Cup campaign (against Uruguay at home 1-0, and against the "football giants" Japan).

In regards to the Asian cup, lets be honest with ourselfs here, apart from Australia, Japan, and Korea who has a serious chance of winning it????
Lets be honest.......A 3 horse tournament is a waste of time and that is why it is not recognised by FIFA.

International Friendlies, who cares about friendlies???

Competetive games are all that matter. Sure Greece lost 1-0 in Melbourne, they were here on holidays. That had to be the one of the poorest games i have ever watched. both teams played terrible.

If you know anything about football, friendlies are just a form of practise. Coaches try new things, try different players, etc etc.

Unfortunately Greece has not played Australia in a competitive fixture, but i think friendlies are locked at 3-3.

All i was saying is that the Asian Cup is worthless. thats all.

Dont mean to offend, Im just being honest.

well i certainly hope that korea will win. i think it'll be a good test of the full strength korea squad. as it stands lee dong gook (the top scorer) of the korean NT will not be joining the squad due to negotiations with EPL side boro. Also Lee CS will be at EPL side Wigan negotiating so he won't be at the match either. This match will however have the players playing in turkey, russia, and of course korea. it will also have the 3 EPL players JS PARK, YP LEE, and KY SEOL.

I have heard of Gook and been hearing hes been doing good and as you mentioned top scorer. They have some good quality players but I think the Main guy to look for will be park if hes on all cylinders watch out he can break open any game.

I first predicted a 2-0 win for Korea and will go with that. Korea has more depth on offence and more creative skill and speed at the midfield and wings, only way Greece will beat em is by playing that old boring hold em and place 12 men in goal and perhaps luck one counter attack or hope for a draw, otherwise I see Korea winning this game as they should they are the better and more skilled and well balanced team.

Korea is much quicker on the ball and on the field in general then Greece. Korea reads the game better than Greece, Korea plays as a unit more skillfull with quicker and more accurate passing game. Korea is simply the better team (in all cases) Greece only holds defence better and thats what they will try to do put the whole greek team in the goal area and pray they dont get an onslaught. The reality is the Asian Cup is insignificant to FIFA, because only a handful of teams are capable of winning it. I was not only stating my opinion but the honest truth.
Unlike you Benfica I know whats real and whats BS, it is obvious that you have not gotten over the fact that Greece pumped Portugal and won the Euro, and that is why you started to pollute this thread with rubbish.
Once again to get it through your thick skull, Greece beat Portugal TWICE in Portugal and the whole world was watching while Greece captured the EURO, if your friendly wins mean so much to you then you really dont know anything about football.

Congratulations Portugal has won 3 meaningless friendlies against Greece.

well back on topic to the asian cup 2007.

well the aussies do not have hiddink. the japanese nt is not that good imho. in fact the kfa recently cancelled the friendlies with japan because there is little to gain from playing japan. they phrased it as "korea would rather play european, african, or latin american teams".

you know it's funny, Japan when it's soccer was unknown and crap begged korea to play against them (this was in the late 80s and early 90s). then in the late 90s they said that there was nothing to learn from korea and stopped playing against korea. i guess it serves them right.

seriously i have often wondered why foreigners love the japanese football team so much. it doesn't seem completely rational to me. they don't have any huge talents except for nakamura. their biggest J league stars are either brazilian, korean or some other foreigner. plus the J league vs K league games always result in K league teams winning. So let me ask you, why do you think Japan will win AC2007? is it their first round exit from the recent Asian Games? or their lack of consistent coaching? or maybe it's their top players who can't even play for the japan nt? or maybe it's just the japan bandwagon?

i can't say i've watched many J league games but i think there is something really wrong when the top J league players just by looking at stats are not japanese. i mean this joker Triple J (Cho Jae Jun) who is a sub for the korean nt was Jleague's top scorer at one point and most koreans think he sucks.

hiddink said that japan lacks "mental toughness" and it's true looking at how they crumbled against australia and brazil at the world cup.

in the end, i think japan makes the best cars in the world but their football is not very good. i still think they are in the top 6 of asian football though but i doubt they will win it. maybe they'll get to second round but that's it. can one of the numerous people on here who said japan has a chance of winning please explain this? I'll remind them that Japan recently lost to Saudi Arabia twice, and lost to North Korea, etc...

i think australians underestimate the power that hiddink had with his tactical genius. this had a large factor to their success in the world cup. beating crap asian teams is the same as beating crap oceana teams. it's no accomplishment. they have yet to play Korea, Iran, or Saudi. we'll see how they fair against real competition. This tournament will be the first real test of their power.

I have heard of Gook and been hearing hes been doing good and as you mentioned top scorer. They have some good quality players but I think the Main guy to look for will be park if hes on all cylinders watch out he can break open any game.

lee dong gook will not be playing due to training with boro. it's too bad. it would be nice to have all the stars of the korea nt playing as they will all play in any real competitive match like world cup, etc..

well judging by my korean NT banner and avatar i think it's pretty obvious i am korean.

you know that's exactly how i see it as well. This affects Japan and Saudi Arabia the most-they seem to freeze when they play in the world cup. i think this is what hiddink means by lacking in mental toughness.

and yes the J league is more well off financially. there are a few reasons for this... 1) Japanese people are rich and a lot richer than koreans. 2) There is better fan base and marketing in Japan for football. and yes they have lots of foreign bought players. However in terms of sheer talent and technical skills I think they are far behind the K league which has been around for a lot longer and has produced far better players-and i'm not just talking about the EPL players these days. if you go back in history Korea has produced many talented players. one fine example is Cha Bum Kun who is undisputedly the best asian export to europe ever to this day.

the k league has a few brazilians, romanians, russians, etc... but they are definitely not the best players consistently. in fact in an all star game last year, only 4 of the players out of both squads were foreigners.

yes your right there is this strong fascination with the japanese culture here in North America I wouldnt say its overwhelming however there is that hype. You have to remember The Japanese imports of vehicles and eletronics has a very huge market here in North America and with that people are interested with all that goes with it.

In 2006. Korea managed a draw against France.
But Australia got collapsed by Brazil.

that's a very good point... but i would like to see the two teams face each other... it was fun seeing the U20 sides at it to gauge the true strength of australia. they seemed to be a strong side.. the korean u20 side is quite weak imho but they managed to beat them by 1 goal i believe... they certainly didn't dominate the auzzies...

i think on the mens side both sides have good talent playing abroad... but now that korea has Lee DG back the team is stronger than ever.

Yeah but many Aussies don't know the game. I mean, with the World Cup we had a bunch of fans jump onto the cart just because it's the biggest sporting event ever and many even believed that we were good enough to win it :lol: Don't judge the Aussie fan who understands the game, by the words of the many who don't, and trust me there are many. Here in Australia we take sport very seriously. Recent polls have suggested that sport is more important to most Aussies moreso than academics and there is a strong push to make our soccer school better, but we who have played the game are realistic. We aren't any better than say a USA or Scotland at the moment. We have grit and some classy players like Kewell and Bresciano, Aloisi, but we're still a small nation as Uruguay proved the other day.

I'm an Iranian-Australian, and I'll be rooting for Iran, but I'd say at the moment Australia is head and shoulders above Asian teams, including Iran. Iran's strength is its individual players. On an individual level they have the most talented players in Asia, but they've never gelled well as a team and lack organization and discipline.

dude what's with you and all the fighting words about me not watching this and that. i watched almost every game that Jeonbuk played (you know the winners from last tourny) and also watched highlights on footballasia of the other teams including probably your fav urawa reds. anyhow, I think AFC in general sucks ass.

There are basically 6 teams that are good:
korea, japan, saudi, iran, australia, maybe china

and then there are basically only 3 - 4 countries capable of hosting the event in a fair, safe, and a place with enough electricity so that we don't have to stop games in the middle because of power outages.

korea, japan, australia, and maybe china are the only places with all of the above.

i actually think so far the current countries of indonesia, thailand, etc.. have already failed to host a successful tournament. i mean a blackout during a fcking game? crazy
