Though people say Japan is one of the best team in Japan and plays awesome blah blah blah with all kinds of nonesense rambling, but the truth is that Japan chokes all the time.

Japan had 3 straight loss in 1998 beaten up by Argies, Croats, and Jamaicans.
Japan passed the first round but smashed by Turks.
Japan was squahsed and torn away by Aussies and Brazil while Japan barely managed a draw against Croats.

My point is that Japan is way too overrated.

May be Japaneses have no talent.:worried:

hey guys please watch your language. they are overrated simply because the western media is in love with japan.

they are very successful in asia, but i agree that even in 2002 they had the easiest of qualifying groups and that's probably why they made it out.

i think the j league infrastructure is superb but yeah they don't really have any killer players right now with the exception of nakamura.

we'll see how they do in AC 2007.

They have a few good players, but to do well in a WC you need more than a few, you need a good team, at least a good 'spine' as we call it in Chile..

KEEPER-C.DEFENDER-MIDFIELDER-STRIKER. One v.good player in each of these positions and in your day you may beat any team.

korea wouldn't have gotten through if they didn't have Guus Hiddink...

plus Media bags japan if you haven't noticed

but i do agree that japan is overrated i must admit they did have the easiest group in 2002, but Japan only started competing in 1998, Korea's been competing for ages

you cant say they choke in the world cup because choking is when someone expects something from you and then you cant live up to it.noone ever expects nothing from them and they never do anything either.

you are right. Guus Hiddink was amazing. There is no one quite like him. The media doesn't bag Japan. if anything they overhype them because westerners love japan and think japan is the best in asia in everything.

it's true Korea has been in football for a lot longer. in fact Japan used to beg Korea to play friendlies with them in the 90s, but then in the late 90s they thought they were too good for Korea and stopped playing against Korea. Now again it seems the two countries are playing again although I don't know why KFA would agree to such a thing after such an arrogant snub from Japan in the late 90s. Oh well I guess we Koreans are very nice and recognize that by competing together there will be mutual benefit.

As I was saying in another thread, it would be amazing if Japan, Korea, Saudi, and Iran, and now Australia kept playing each other on a frequent basis to improve their skills.

But who knows Korea and Iran recently lost to crap teams and Japan didn't even make it out of the group stage in AG. Maybe we should be more humble and play even the "minnows" who keep beating us in Asia.

i'm pretty sure i've seen many articles degrading Japan coz they are asian

well japanese NT is pretty decent by all accounts. i just think the articles that you may be referring to are written by racist bigots. i wouldn't read too much into it. half the time the guy writing it probably has no idea about real football in Japan or any other asian country for that matter. just look at how the italians went crazy about korea supposedly cheating when they got beat by korea without knowing anything about korean football. they tend to look down on all the asian countries and tend to not acknowledge our talent. i say let them be ignorant.

countries that are more open minded are definitely benefiting off the asian talent like EPL and SPL, etc...

You are 100% right.
Choking is when somebody expect something from them but they did not live up to it.
Nobody really expects something from Japan.
I agree that Japan is not even overrated.
They are way below average.

Wait, how can you say Japanese NT is decent?
Didn't you see Australia smashed, squashed, and smacked Japan last year?
Many people tought Japan would advance but they were they finished the last in Group F.
Did you also see Brazil treated Japanese players like youth players?
It was a National team game vs. High School girl's team.
I know Asian football is improving, but Japanese football was totally a joke from last year's tournament.

ya i agree i don't think they have the mental toughness required of football.

i still think that in asia they are one of the top 6 teams though.

Japan is certainly NOT the best in Asia.
May be they are in Top 6.
I think Korea, Japan, Australia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia are better than Japan.
WHo knows, North Korea will be better than Japan in 2 years.

They might be overrated but it is not their fault. They are still fledglings on the world stage. Just like Korea. Except Korea has advanced a little more quickly than Japan. I think that the important think for all Asian teams right now is to put together a super team that can compete internationally with the best teams in the world. The different Asian countries have to put their differences aside for a better footballing Asia. In the long run this can only be better for Asia in general. I think that with this kind of cooperation the Asian clubs will flourish which will help exploit the best talent in the east. Then they can show the world that an Asian team is just as good as those big European super powers.

one thing that is crazy is how big the continent is which makes it hard to schedule friendly games across different time zones with like 10 hour flights from korea to say saudi.

The should make some changes in the asian leagues to accomodate that!

well i think to lump the middleeast, southeast asia, north east asia into one continent is archaic and stupid. i think the continent should be divided to middle east, india and surrounding areas, south east asia, and north east asia. it's ridiculous how it's this huge continent in general.

i would say japan is in the top 5 for sure... but yeah not much competition in asia. aside from the top 5 teams of korea, iran, japan, saudi, australia not much competition. that's why korea doesn't play friendly games against asian opponents-nothing really to gain.

Do not expect anything from Japan in WCs.
They will always end up eliminated.
In 2010 and 2014, they will do worse than 2006.
Trust me.

Umm... which team didn't joke? Nearly all the overrated nations sucked. Brazil's performance was terrible. they were lucky to be pared with Ghana i nthe round of 16 because they would have made it no further then that if they didn't. France was in the brink of losing the chance to even make the round of 16 but they managed a win over Togo and since then on they were amazing. Spain was bad also. They got pretty lucky to be in the same group as Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine. Then comes Sweden, England, Poland and so on. So Japan really isn't alone. I mean thats when it comes to the performances in Germany, 2002 and 98 are a different story.

Ha! Brazil lucky to play Ghana?? that's the most ridiculous comment I heard. Ghana are a top notch side. probably represented the strongest African country at the competition. Brazil unfortunately only had a month to practice together as a team and more relied on brute force talent to carry them... which didn't work. you probably don't know about Ghana's NT. Stephen Appiah (Fenerbahce, Turkey) Michael Essien (Lyon, France), Mathew Amoah (Vitesse, NED),Michael Osei are just some of the big stars that come to mind... They are the only team to whoop korea like a rag doll twice. I actually followed this team after korea's first friendly with them... I think Ghana certainly shook up the korean nt because previous to this they were on a 4 game win streak against USA, Mexico, LA Galaxy, Serbia, and 1 tie against greece at the time. Trust me my friend, Ghana are amazing.

I do agree that France didn't look so hot in the first round... I was surprised they beat Togo. Spain may have underperformed but I do agree they had the easiest group-certainly tunisia (weakest african team), saudi are no challenge. england unfortunately under performed as usual... sweden is never really a super power in my book. Poland always does poorly at WC despite strong qualifying campaigns... i think they are ready to bust out at the next wc2010.

in fact to be honest the luckiest in wc2006 were Italy in their very questionable win against australia. I thought portugal was very unlucky as well during this world cup... they seem to be underachieving...

That's the answer.
That's why Japan lost to Croatia and Brazil.
Japan will not have a single match victory in wc as long as WC is hosted in their own soil.
