The New Zealand Knights broke an eight-match losing streak with an upset 1-0 win over second-placed Queensland Roar in their A-League match at North Harbour Stadium on Sunday.
An own goal to Queensland defender Sasa Ognenovski in the eighth minute proved the decider.
The Knights hung on grimly for most of the second half in the face of wave after wave of Roar attacks.
But the Queenslanders butchered most of their myriad of chances at goal, coming closest when substitute Spase Dilevski hit the bar on 65 minutes.
Queensland is now 12 points behind league leader Melbourne Victory, while the bottom placed Knights picked up just their second win of the season.
