This is mainly an English speaking forum, which is why I will have to ask you to stop posting whole posts in your native language, unless of course it is English. Some words here and there are fine (insults of course are never fine), but when no one besides your own countrymen understands what the thread is even about, we have a problem. It is impossible for us supermodetators to know every single poster's language and taking action in certain situations isn't exactly easy when you need a translator. Even if most posters in say...the Bulgarian forum, are Bulgarians, it doesn't give you the right to shut everyone else out of the conversation, including the supermods and admins.
So please, everyone, try to stick to English.
Thank you.

Can we use the other language lets say if we copied an article from that countrys source?
MarieL
08-09-2005, 02:46 PM
Yes, if it's just the article that's in a foreign language, since I doubt the article personally offends anyone. Just don't write your own stuff in anything but English, so everyone can understand what you say.

Should other mods enforce this?
Well given that we have moderators for almost every language in this board then it's up for the moderators to enforce it, instead of actually talking in their own language themselves...
MarieL
08-09-2005, 08:55 PM
Should other mods enforce this?
Yes please. At least if the conversation has a negative tone from the start. We do trust the mods, but when it comes to bannable offenses, it would be nice to actually be able to understand what is being said.

Well the mods who understand the language should be able to translate...

Why is he provoking you?? Sorry for my ignorance..... It's kinda hard to explain, but I know what he's doing. I start a thread about how you should only post in English, he starts a conversation in Italian, trying to undermine what I said. Mock, like he said. It's "in good fun" to him sure... But there's an ulterior motive there.
But Italian really isn't the best choise, if you don't want people to know what you're saying. That's like the world's easiest language to understand.

"ulterior motive"? I explained it's a mock, don't get so paranoid.
But Italian really isn't the best choise, if you don't want people to know what you're saying. That's like the world's easiest language to understand.
Very true, hardly like I wanted NO one to know what I said, and since it's the easier language to understand you can translate it and finally confirm my "good fun" and forget about whatever "ulterior motive" you are imagining.

Presumably there are forums elsewhere in native languages of all members. I imagine everybody who found and uses these forums understands English. Not everyone understands every language of every member. Therefore to use your native language is to exclude everyone who doesn't understand that language.
I think these forums are intended to be inclusive of all nationalities, hence members from all over the world.

i speak guarani portuguese (if you can still even call it that anymore) spanish english chinese french italian hebrew arabic and german, and none of them very well at all...trust me...im a dumbass when it comes to talking foriegn languages, especially english the grammar is difficult, thats why i dotn think its right that we cant speak our own languages but i dotn think i could find another person to talk guarani with anyway...im an idiot and a loner.

You should have written your post in English. But since it was a very very bad translation, I can understand. Maybe it was intended that way. Hey but I'm no physic. Let's just say the post was lost in translation.:)
As for your post in your own language.
First of all word Turcina doesn't mean Turks. You could have used word Turaka which is plural for of Turk but it's just not a bigoted term (although you might prefer the bigoted and narrow-minded one). I on the other hand despise racism and bigotry even if someone regurarly slips it in their posts at some SFN Forum. However chauvinism and bigotry can sometimes be present with some and groups of people that they even don't know when they are being bigots.

Iako su dosta nasih rijeci, vecinom Osmanlijske, porijekle iz Turske.. To nije jedini razlog sto mi te rijeci jos uvijek koristimo
Seher (sehir) lutko znaci Grad (City)

I have seen Djani in her comments use "Turcina" wich is a deragotory term. It's like saying the N word when reffering to a black person.
Then later she said I have nothing against "Turcina" I'm not sure is it in this thread or other ones.
That is like saying I have nothing agianst "N*****s" when saying I have nothing against Black people. The statment is contradictory.

Turci is polite and unbigoted plural form.
Turak is a polite term which means Turkish male.
Turkinja is a polite term which means Turkish female. That's correct.

No you are wrong when saying "Turcina" is not a racial slurr. Serbs use that word when they are trying to insult Bosnians (no offense to turks) as they are nothing else but Turks and don't belong in Bosnia.
To be a Turk is a wonderful thing (some even want to be them) but I'm a Bosnian and not a Turk. I'm not saying that being a Bosnian is superior thing but I'm trying to say that I would be nothing else.

It's a saying in Bosnian, see how you don't know the Bosnian culture? When somebody says Znam kad si se rodio, it has nothing to do with your age. :)

Stop what?
Haha.. I am a bosanac, from top to bottom, one whose proud of his origins :) You can be proud of thinking you are a Turcina it's OK with me, but don't get "Sljiva" in Baščaršija. Since most bosnians would be offended by being called Turcina I'm sure they would give you one.
If you wouldn't get "Sljiva" in Baščaršija I can assure you one is available in Tuzla, Mostar, Bihac, Zenica, Gradacac e.t.c.:ronaldo:
