Brazil striker Ronaldo said he was unable to explain why he was sent off for the second time in his Real Madrid career during his side's 1-0 defeat at Getafe.

The 30-year-old was given his marching orders for picking up a second booking after saying something to the referee in the dying minutes of the game.

His only previous sending off came two seasons ago when he kicked out at Juventus defender Alessio Tacchinardi in a 2-0 defeat in a Champions League first knockout round tie.

He will now miss next week's league clash against arch-rivals Barcelona.

"I don't understand why I was given a second yellow card," Ronaldo told reporters.

"I saw that (Ruud) van Nistelrooy was shouting because the referee had blown for a foul for no reason and I asked him why he had booked him. The referee moved his head and I said he was a 'phenomenon' and he then gave me the yellow card."

right you are... he scored a brilliant goal in the last el clasico but his lack of any real effort on the pitch would definitely hurt the team in the game where each and every player will have to give 100% in order to stop barca.
i really can't stand the sight of him dragging himself around on the sacred bernabeu pitch. nowadays everybody's on raul's back saying that real should dump him and get another striker but i remember a champ. league game vs bayern a couple of seasons ago. raul played with injured ankle and ran hard and pressed bayern's defensive line the whole time. you can be in a scoring drought but for the love of mike show some heart and some pride when you're wearing real's shirt. unlike gronaldo, raul does that every time he's out there.
capello will supposedly field the same starting eleven that played in bucharest. that means that raul and ruud will play upfront but it also means that robinho will start!

well robinho is finding some form, to me he played well doing some playing with guti. and reyes can is there to sub on for him to change it up a bit.
i was really impressed with real today, especially when reyes on for RVN and guti on for beckham, they moved to a more wing attack, which was doing well also, just robinho was the only man upfront. i saw raul doing so defending today, want one of his better performances in the 2nd half, but i missed the 1st
