View Full Version : Fave. Asian team ??

I know most people would go for Japan or Saudi Arabia, however I have a different choice, since I watch a lot of games from this continent (as if I dont watch much more games from Europe, S.America and Africa ;)) I do like how the UAE play, they do not always win and some games are really boring but sometimes they really surprise me.. Then comes Saudi .. I just watch Asian soccer when there is nothing else on TV, mainly through the Asian football show...

My favorite Asian team is Saudi Arabia. They are a great team that has an unorthodox keeper and excellent strike force (kind of like Mexico).
And just a comment: I think Asian soccer is too underrated. :(

Why China? Despite that I'm Chinese, China is not my favorite Asian team. Even though I hate to support South Korea or Japan, they do play much better than we do. (See Japan's game against Argentina in France 98? Damn it, they were unlucky!) Chinese players have not learned the essence of football. I think they can be considered one of the best of the amateurs. Most of them just care about their salary, which has gone astronomical even since the launch of the professional league in 1994.
Now the team is coached by magical coach Bora Milutinovic, and has had some improvement according to the media. (I haven't seen their games.) But of course, the other half of the media is fiercely criticizing Milutinovic for his coaching style. But anyhow, I suddenly realized a few days ago: Why the hell am I reading so much news about China's football team?! I vowed not to care about it after they were disqualified for the 1996 Olympics, not to mention that they were disqualified for the 2000 Games again at the hands of -- who else -- South Korea. Maybe because I'm Chinese... *sigh*

I think you're right. I'm Chinese, so I have to support my team. Besides, I've been ignoring the team for over four years, so now it's time to start caring about it again.
Kuwait is going to meet China in the group stage of the Asian Cup, right? China is counting on gaining three points from Kuwait. The players are very confident, because China has had the winning edge again Kuwait for years. http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yes, you are absoloutley right Juve Fan, UAE sometimes come back and play best asian football, but then again they play boring football and lose with a big scoreline.
The problem in the UAE is that the Football Officials in UAE who are in control dont have any expreince in football and know nothing about it, they just brought some people who know important people and put them in a high rank of being in control of the football assosication in the UAE.
So there isnt a strong base to look after UAE football such as there is in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. :dontcare:

well i agree to that asian soccer is underrated and i do think that you do have to support your team even if they arent the best team in the world. one reason i think that asian soccer is under rated is because they dont have the fans like in europe the loyal fans i think that if asia had fans like europe that the teams would get a little mind buster and do better. as far as my favorite asian team i would have to pick a few. Lebanon(because i am half lebanese), Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. those are my teams. and i wish that i was in lebanon when they had the asian cup i would have loved that. as far as southeast asian soccer i really had never watched that, ummm... i think that i should start. :silly:

My fave is Bahrain because they are our national team. ;) Bahrain's team ain't all that good, but we're improving now, and we got a good base of young talented players. :) The last time we had such talented young players was maybe in Youth WC 91 or maybe 89, I don't remember, but I think we finished as 3rd or 4th on the tournament. :) One of our players, Mohammed Husain, the left defender, has a powerful left-footed shot! :) He was linked with Leeds United a few months ago.
Besides we beat Iran and Kuwait! :D That was a lot of fun, really! :D ;)

Well we asians are considered as not really good soccer players.Frankly non of the asian teams ever succeded to the finals or rather not even 5 teams succeed for thje world cup 4 years once.In the past there was only Saudi Arabia and korea but now there is japan all the more this 3 Asian teams had been representing us in the world cup so who do you think is betta?of coz iz the koreans japanese and saudis .As fer the PRC i dunno wat 2 sae even their own player also thnks that they cant win and even buy their own country lost 2 costa rica.this chinese are really a disgrace to our race. But luckily the majority still supports the country despite losing.i realli sympathize milo china's coach.i thnk he's a gd coach .But i hope more asian can represent us in the world cup as well as africa or else all the while we had been left out and it is alwaes the south americans and europeans playing.
I thnk Thailand mite get a chance 2 enter the worldcup soon. They now ranked 60th in fifa ranking the first among all the southeast Asia country.I got to be ashamed to say that singapore although they employs professionals form senegal, cameroon, new zealand, britain, brazil and so on they still ranked at 113th. BAd 1 s'pore fans i wonder when will s'pore enter world cup??????

Hey ZeeZee...I wish too that u were here in the asian cup....It was really great since it was the first time it happens in Lebanon....I watched 4 games from stadiums.....really great!
My favourite team is of course LEBANON....It's true that we don't have good results but i think that the football in Lebanon begin to progress......The major problem of the asian football is the media.....For exapmle, here in Lebanon, the media gave too much importance and times for basketball, that's why basketball became the first sport here and so we succeed in qualifiying to the world cup in Indianiapolis while the national basketball league began in Lebanon just in 1993!!!!!
I wish that the same thing can happen with Lebanese football....
My second favourite team is Iran and then Saudi Arabia....

But all time asian fav's are iran. they r the strongest, and nothing can beat the fact. just look at the strength of reserve players we have. we have so many players in europe ( Bundesliga, Italy, Austri, Ukraine and some in spl also). Uzbekistan & Pakhtakhor :)
You'll see they qualify them to the wc 2006.
There are many good teams in Asia. I can't appoint one team to be the best.
thank u hungarianfan,
i think many asian teams dont know the real power of uzbekistan. After Independence of Uzbekistan, the country became new member of Asian Football Confederation. The team was new, and didnt know asian teams well.
Our fisrt participation in Asian football events was Asian Games in Japan. And Uzbekistan got the chempionship of this tournament. At thAt time every uzbek fan thought that Uzbekistan was best in Asia. Because the team came from Eastern european football. many of the players played for european teams.
Let me talk about little bit history about Uzbekistan football. our history was relied on and depended on ex USSR football. Our main club was Pakhtakor. the club used to play well against Spartak Moscow, Dynamo Kiev... and so on. Pakhtakor had funny history from the past :) They won Japan by 6:0, and many asian teams clubs. !!
but this was history from the past....

Well unliked the Uzbek team, the Malaysian players only based local. NOt many of em does have international experience as most of the guys are new. but i'm happy the way the team performed these days. with the guidance under a new Hungarian coach they had shown improvement lately. They beat the Thais to go to the semis of Tiger Cup and now has the uperhand to go to the final after beating the indons 2-1 at Jakarta. Its time the Malaysian to be the best once again in Asia as in 70's.
MALAYSIA BOLEH!

I think Iran has more players in Europe not sure... But Saudi is definatly not the best... probably 3 teams Iran, Korea, Japan are duking it out for that spot.
