Looking to end a five-match goal drought, the New Zealand Knights will be without striker Dani Rodrigues for their match against fellow A-League strugglers the Jets in Newcastle on Saturday night.

Manager Paul Nevin says Rodrigues has been carrying a knee injury, which flared up this week.

It was not known how long the Portuguese forward would be sidelined and Nevin said he was working on getting a short-term replacement.

Also out for the match between the league's bottom two clubs is midfielder Malik Buari.

Buari, the scorer of the Knights' only goal in seven matches this season, has a hamstring problem.

The Knights welcome back All White defender Che Bunce from suspension, but still have yet to finalise Ghanian international Hamza Mohammed's registration.

Mohammed was brought in as cover for injured midfielder Jonas Salley.

Meanwhile, defender Matt Carbon, whose groin injury means he has yet to play for the Knights, has returned to Britain to see a specialist.

Newcastle, who sacked coach Nick Theodorakopoulos this week after a winless start to the season, have three players returning, including Vaughan Coveny and Socceroo Jade North.

The Knights and Newcastle drew 0-0 in Auckland in the opening round of the season.

Teams:

Jets: Ben Kennedy, Steve Eagleton, Jade North, Milton Rodriquez, Andrew Durante, Matt Thompson, Vaughan Coveny, Nick Carle, Paul Okon (capt), Stuart Musialik, Labinot Haliti, Joel Griffiths, Mark Bridge, Paul Kohler.

Knights: Danny Milosevic, Darren Bazeley (capt), Che Bunce, Neil Emblen, Richard Johnson, Scot Gemmill, Sean Devine, Jonti Richter, Noah Hickey, Adam Casey, Michael White, Sime Kovacevic, Michael Turnbull.
