BELGRADE, Serbia (AP)) -- Brazilian striker Ailton and Segundo Castillo of Ecuador joined Red Star Belgrade.

Ailton most recently played for Hamburg on loan from Besiktas. He was Bundesliga's leading scorer in 2003-04 for Werder Bremen.

The 33-year-old arrived in Belgrade overnight after the deal was agreed hours before Thursday's transfer deadline, the Serbian champion said Friday.
Details were not immediately released, but local media reported the transfer fee being about euro300,000 -- considerably below the amounts Red Star recently got when it sold off four prominent players.

Castillo played for Ecuador at this year's World Cup in Germany. He and Ailton are to fill the gaps left with the departures from Red Star of strikers Nenad Kovacevic, who signed for Lens, and Nikola Zigic, who has joined Racing Santander in Spain.

Midfielder Bosko Jankovic left Red Star to Mallorca in Spain and central defender Milan Bisevac moved to Lens.

Wow I didn't expect this. This is pretty good player that Red Star got.

I hope he can relieve his Werder Bremen days but his age does worry me a little bit. Maybe for this one UEFA cup he can bring us to the top and live out his legend?

If he to score like this Basta will feed him every day.

Serbia leauge is much better then BiH's or Croatia's(Auxerre raped Dinamo yesterday(soulda been 5-1) while they bearly beat OFK,and when was the last time a BiH team ever achived anything?n e v e r) but I do agree with Fusion we souldnt buy all these foriegn players, growing our own talent is 100 times more important.

I don't think this is the question which league is better. Serbia's league has better teams and is probably better but bosnia's league is more exciting to watch. I think that's what Marko was trying to say.

He wasn't trying to say BH league is better but that's more exciting.
For example in Serbia's league either Red Star Belgrade or Partizan wins the league, and OFK gets third. In bosnian league you never know who will win it.

...and when was the last time a BiH team ever achived anything?n e v e r) ...
well they never won champions league or Uefa Cup but they have reached semifanal (Uefa Cup) Zeljo was close to reaching the final in 1984, and quarterfinals (Velez and Sarajevo), Sarajevo was in Champions league also

Thats exactly what I was trying to say!

And about the stuff about BiH clubs not winning much.. well most of the best Jugo players usually played in the Belgrade Clubs, Zagreb, Split, whatever it was. And if we still weren't dipshits and racists to each other today and Croats, Bosnians, Serbs mixed within each others leagues some of our clubs could be alot more more dangerous and successful today!

Well my local semi-pro leauge is more entertaining then any European leauge but thats not the point.

Zvezda and Partizan do come 1st and 2nd every year(well not this year Pzans gonna be fourth:D).I like that it makes all the other teams hungry and they all want to prove themselves thats why its such a big deal when Vojvodina or OFK or anyone beat one of the big 2.

And by the havent done anything recently comment I meant in the last 10 years:p.It was easy when the communists pumped millions of dollars into our football and forced our best to stay in the domestic leauge till a certain age,now its a little harder.

BJK was dying to get rid of Ailton so they could transfer another player. This guy cant run and he is too fat and old. He is a horrible buy but u guys got him cheap so it wont really hurt the club if he ends up a flop.

How so Stace?you didnt have to deal with sanctions,NOONE wanted to play a team from Serbia, atleast Bosnian and Croatian teams could find opponents that wanted to play them.

But im sure some of Bosna's stadiums were destroyed or damaged in the war and alot of players probablly joined the army so you might have a point.

Ero

we all know economically and physically BiH was damaged the most and that's why their clubs were set back the most from the war!

Pape
09-18-2006, 02:51 AM
yup economically, people ran, my hometown club went from pretty good club to being shitty as hell and now in the 2nd league

all of our good players moved away to other countries and now the team is made up of young kids and people that play part time because they can't survive not getting paid and playing football...

Who cares, they fought before all the time but the media chose not to show it, I think it would make us the Brazilians of Europe again, respectively. Imagine CZ - Dinamo, every time the stadium would be full, or Partizan Sarajevo, OFK - Vardar, it would be a CRACKER!
