MADRID, Spain (AP) - Ruud van Nistelrooy scored his first three Spanish league goals Sunday and also missed a penalty in Real Madrid's 4-1 win over newly promoted Levante.

Van Nistelrooy, who made a 16-million-euro (C$22.7 million) move from Manchester United in July, put Madrid on its way to its first victory of the new season with a 16th-minute shot from the edge of the area at Levante's Ciutat de Valencia stadium.

Antonio Cassano added a second goal 11 minutes later before Levante midfielder Felix Ettien reduced the deficit in the 36th minute.

Van Nistelrooy restored Madrid's two-goal cushion in the 57th minute and completed his hat trick in injury time to give Madrid four points from its first two matches.

Sevilla and Getafe maintained their perfect records. Sevilla won 3-1 at Real Sociedad, while Getafe edged Racing Santander 1-0.

Sevilla leads the standings after two games, ahead of defending champion FC Barcelona, Getafe and Valencia on goal difference. On Saturday, Barcelona downed Osasuna 3-0, while Valencia won 1-0 at Atletico Madrid.

Also Sunday, it was Mallorca 0 Deportivo La Coruna 0, Gimnastic Tarragona 1 Celta Vigo 2, Villarreal 0 Recreativo Huelva 1, and Real Betis 3 Athletic Bilbao 0.

Zaragoza hosted Espanyol in a late match.

Madrid's game reunited Levante coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro with his former club. Lopez Caro had a six-month spell in charge of Madrid after replacing Vanderlei Luxemburgo last December.

After falling two goals behind, Levante's problems worsened in the 29th minute when defender Frederic Dehu was red-carded for a scything foul on Van Nistelrooy. But Ettien's fierce low shot then gave the hosts fresh hope.

Madrid forward Jose Antonio Reyes, who arrived on loan from Arsenal in a swap with Julio Baptista, appeared at the start of the second half in place of captain Raul Gonzalez.

Reyes played a part in Van Nistelrooy's second goal by crossing for David Beckham to provide the Dutchman with a headed pass. Van Nistelrooy chested the ball down and volleyed it home.

The Madrid striker missed a chance of a hat trick when he was fouled by Diego Camacho with five minutes remaining, leading to the defender's ejection and leaving Levante with nine men. However, Van Nistelrooy's spot kick was parried by goalkeeper Pablo Cavallero.

However, Van Nistelrooy made amends by lobbing over Cavallero in injury time for Madrid's fourth.

Sevilla's spectacular form continued with an emphatic win at Sociedad which extended its unbeaten run in domestic and European competition to 14 games.

Midfielder Renato opened the scoring for the visitors in the eighth minute, with striker Frederic Kanoute adding a second goal in the 75th and Sociedad's Mikel Labaka scoring an own-goal in injury time.

Inigo Diaz de Cerio scored Sociedad's consolation goal just before the final whistle.

Getafe striker Daniel (Guiza) Gonzalez delivered a volleyed goal on the hour to beat Santander.

Deportivo and Mallorca maintained their unbeaten starts to the season with a goalless draw.

Newly promoted Gimnastic, playing its first home game in the top flight since 1950, fell behind after Celta striker Fernando Baiano's mis-hit shot in the 50th minute.

Striker Javier Portillo tied it with a penalty 17 minutes later, only for Brazilian striker Nene to win Celta three points with a 74th-minute strike.

Villarreal remained without a point or a goal this season after falling to an 83rd-minute strike by Recreativo midfielder Santi Cazorla. Cazorla joined the first-division newcomers from Villarreal in the off-season.

First-half goals by defender Juanito Gutierrez and forward Edu Schmidt and a late strike by Jesus (Capi) Capitan gave Betis its first points against Bilbao.
