As we know, Metalurg Zaporizye from Ukraine is the opponet of Panathinaikos at the first round of the UEFA cup. In the qualifiers this club eliminated Zimpru of Moldova. Zaporizye has little European history, and not much sucess in Ukraine. Sergey Yastchenko is the coach of the team. Most of the players are Ukrainian while they are also 2 Georgians, 2 Skopians, a Byelorussian and a Croat. Zaporizye has no wins in the four matchdays of the Ukrainian league.
Panathinaikos members about the draw:
Hans Backe: "It is a club we don't know, and we must watch some of their games to have an image about them. It does not matter who we are playing with, but in such games we have to be serious. We are the favourite of course, but we have to prove this in the field."
Dimitris Papadopoulos: "Metalurg is an unknown team for us, and this is one more reason we must be careful. They are not easy games in European leagues, even more when we don't know our opponet."
Anthony Seric: "The games with teams coming from the ex Soviet Union are not easy. The matter is not only the skills of the opponet club, but also the journey and the weather conditions we are going to meet. However I believe the draw was very good for us."
I see a restraint in the team this year. I like this, because over-confidence was bad for us many times before :).
