"he cannot but improve" exactly,

Real Madrid coach Capello: I don't need new defender
August 18, 2006

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has cooled talk of needing a new central defensive signing.
Roma pair Philippe Mexes and Cristian Chivu have been linked with Real, but Capello insists: "This does not seem to me to be serious. Why say that we're trying for another central defender when we have four? Or that we want a midfielder when there are five or six?

"And a point on Sergio Ramos. For him, it will be very important to play to the side of Fabio Cannavaro: he is an important, young player, and with a man of experience beside him he cannot but improve."

Abramovich blocks Real Madrid move for Chelsea's Gallas
August 20, 2006

Real Madrid saw a deal for Chelsea defender William Gallas ripped up by Roman Abramovich on Friday.
AS says Real had negotiated personal terms with the want-away Frenchman and were also well down the road over a fee with Chelsea representatives.

However, just as the two clubs were about to shake hands on a deal, Abramovich intervened and blocked the transfer.

Helguera to ask away from Real Madrid
August 21, 2006

Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera is ready to ask away this week.
Helguera has asked for a meeting with sports director Predrag Mijatovic in the coming days, which will also be attended by coach Fabio Capello.

The Spain international doesn't believe he has a first team future under the new regime and is ready to move.

Meanwhile, Real teammate Francisco Pavon could leave today as Villarreal stepped up talks yesterday for the centre-half following the serious injury suffered by Gonzalo Rodriguez.

Arsenal in for Real Madrid defender Woodgate
August 21, 2006

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering a shock move for Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate.
The People says Wenger has had his eye on Woodgate for some time and his focus on the former Newcastle and Leeds centre-back has been sharpened since the departure of Sol Campbell to Portsmouth.

Newcastle and Liverpool have expressed interest but it's Wenger who is keenest on the one-time England defender, who was tipped for big things before injury struck. The Arsenal chief is exploring a loan option although it's believed the Spaniards would prefer a straight sale.

Fenerbahce offer Real Madrid's Helguera £5M-a-year
August 22, 2006

Fenerbahce are offering a double-your-money contract to want-away Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera.
Fener directors are anxious to land a big-name star during their Centenary year and after failing to coax Roberto Carlos from Real are now throwing money at Helguera.

The Turkish giants are willing to pay Helguera a staggering £5 million-a-year and the player was informed of the offer yesterday. However, the Spain international has turned it down, insisting he does not want to move to Istanbul.

I'm not sure about that Lance, as Lugano [defender] just signed a 4 year contract with Fenerbahce yesterday. It would be nice though :)

Our next transfer is probably going to be a striker

I don't think Fenerbahce would even want Helguera after having Lugano signed. I think the whole article is crap, propaganda, or publicity stunt. Whichever one describes it best for you :)

Let Madrid keep Cannavaro,Ramos,Mejia,Woodgate and Helguera as centre backs. Ramos can help out Salgado on the right if Helguera is played in the centre. Madrids only weakness is on the left where we have Carlos & Bravo. These two scare me to death, especially when they are facing Messi.

Real Madrid's Diogo relieved with Zaragoza move
August 24, 2006

Real Zaragoza have completed the signing of Real Madrid fullback Carlos Diogo.

The Uruguay international has joined Zaragoza on a season-long loan with the option of signing permanently for £3.5 million. Zaragoza will have to cough up £150,000 if they want to field Diogo against Madrid this term.

"The delay has been hard on me, I have waited for a long time and was anxious to come," said Diogo. "I know that it only lacked to finalise details, but with so many days in delay, I was very nervous.

"I did fear for a couple of days that a deal wouldn't happen."

He added: "Right now, I am very happy and keen to start training with my new teammates."

was it just me, or did you guys notice that R. Carlos played abit more "physical/dirty" last season?

i remember the madrid/barca game, the one where barca one 3-0, and he BLATANTLY kicked eto'o from behind in the box. if the ref had seen it, surely it wouldbe been a direct red, and a PK....just a FYI and an example;)

Real Madrid agent reveals Mexes still on agenda
October 04, 2006

Real Madrid's Italian agent Enzo Bronzetti has revealed they're still interested in Roma defender Philippe Mexes.

The 24-year-old Frenchman landed in Rome in 2004 after being convinced to join by then Coach Fabio Capello and sporting director Franco Baldini.

Now the duo, who both joined the Spanish giants in the summer, seem keen on having him in Madrid to strengthen their rearguard.

"Capello wants Mexes," said transfer guru Bronzetti to the Guerin Sportivo magazine. "Roma, however, consider the player untransferable and are not willing to discuss any offer."

Mexes was already paired with a move to Spain during the summer, when newly-signed Fabio Cannavaro praised his qualities and invited him to join him in La Liga.

"I am flattered that Real Madrid thought about me, but now I am at Roma, where I am totally fulfilled and ambitious," said the defender. "We want to win some titles here."

well the way we areplaying we need a nother CB but i dont know if it is really that much of a priority for the team, Cannavaro has seemed out of shape in my eyes, and im not really sold on Ramos as a Cb yet,
Carlos-Cannavaro-Mexes-Ramos
and then maybe next chivu for carlos ( he cant play for ever:worried: )

Either Mexes, Gallas or Chivu would be wonderful to the team, I seriously think we do need a defender badly....Capello says we have four, but if Cannavaro gets injured?? Will Ramos and Woodgate be able to carry on the task?? I'm leaving Mejia and Pavon out of the question, since it's obvious they possibly can NOT.

Lance Knight

yup but i dont think we can get Chivu this winter though
and i forgot about woodgate, how he's doing, anyone knows?

He is doing excelent back in England and is even being tipped for a England recall soon, he is recieving rave reviews and is holding the Midlesboro defense together on his own acourding to reports.

He was loaned, with a buy-option by the end of this season.....

I think if he keeps up his form that he will come back especially if we cant find someone to replace him and Ramos will move to RB. He will come back for one reason only, to prove that he didnt flop over in Spain, one good season then he willl return to England for good, if injuries dont hamper him of course.

Leon of Silvren
10-09-2006, 04:06 PM
You think he'll be back for only one season if he returns?? I think that if he performs this season he will get another chance in Madrid, and if he still performs he will stay, there's no need to get rid of him if he plays well with us....

Roberto Carlos hopes he and Beckham get new Real Madrid deals
October 13, 2006

Roberto Carlos hopes both he and David Beckham will be handed new contracts by Real Madrid.
"David is calm and very happy. He will return to play as he has before. He is going to have his minutes," said Roberto Carlos.

"I hope that we both renew our contracts, he and I."

Roberto Carlos is expected to speak with Real chief Pedja Mijatovic about his deal next week following the big match against Barcelona.

according to the report in "as", real are very close to clinching a deal that will bring fluminense's bright young star marcelo to madrid for a fee in the region of 6 million euros. marcelo is a left back and he is only 18 so he would probably be the ideal long-term replacement for r.carlos. although very young, he's a constant fixture in dunga's plans and was recently linked with a move to either juve or roma...

Real Madrid chief Baldini aims to land Marcelo, Gago
October 17, 2006

Real Madrid sports chief Franco Baldini hopes to return to Spain with the signatures of two South American stars this week.
Baldini is currently in Brazil locked in talks with Fluminense for exciting teenage wing-back Marcelo. Real are offering £4.2 million to Flu for the 18 year-old, with £200,000 going directly to the player.

If everything is agreed, Marcelo will join Real officially in January.

Once his negotiations with Flu are concluded, Baldini will immediately jet to Buenos Aries to finalise a deal for Boca Juniors midfielder Fernando Gago.

Like Marcelo, Real are keen to bring the Argentine to Spain when the winter market opens in January.
