CRESPO SIGNS FOR INTER
Monday, 07 August 2006 12:57:57
MILAN – Hernan Crespo is an Inter player. The striker has signed a two-year contract until 30 June 2008. Crespo joins Inter on a two-year free transfer from Chelsea, who have an option to take the player back after one season.
 :)
Don't know how to feel.

CRESPO: "BACK WITH THE FAMILY"
Monday, 07 August 2006 17:59:34
MILAN - Two hundred and forty goals. Sixteen of those in 30 appearances for Inter in 2002/03. Goal machine Hernan Crespo is back. After agreeing a two-year loan transfer with Chelsea, Hernan had a medical before putting pen to paper and meeting the press and over two hundred fans. Crespo, who displayed the new Inter shirt with Scudetto and Coppa Italia, was unveiled to the media by Inter's transfer market chiefs Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriali.
"I feel an incredible joy. I can't wait to start and I know I will have many responsibilities that are the same as the motivations, and the pressure has never frightened me," said Crespo. "I hope and want to do well, very well. I am back at Inter, a club and a team with which I had a very intense rapport that I have always respected. It was hard when I left to join Chelsea, I still remember that I cried when leaving Appiano Gentile. What I felt then was like leaving a big family and thinking I would not have another chance. But I have it now and I'm keeping hold of it.
"For me and for my career being back at Inter and seeing my name linked to all the big European clubs is a reason to be proud. Nothing bothers me at all about the loan transfer. I actually have to thank Chelsea, the chairman and the coach because they understood what I wanted as a man and they have made me happy.
"I still haven't spoken with him directly but I have known Roberto Mancini for many years. He gave me a big hand settling in at Lazio, and we have always kept in touch. We also share the same passion for five-a-side... I will put myself at the service of the team and the coach, I will always play with passion and give my all.
"It is true that I have a special, sentimental and now legal relationship with Italy. I am officially an Italian citizen. I have an Italian wife and two Milanese daughters, Nicole and Sofia. They are at home here."

I dont know. Crespo is quite underrated. He has very good movement. But is ageing. I am mixed about this. If we do play a 4-4-2 then I think Crespo will start alongside Adriano. We need someone to score the simple goals and Crespo will do that.

Yeah, he surely can score those very-simple goals.....
Hehe just kidding, he's a pure striker, he can score goals, and be at the right place in the right time, but to me he's not that skillful with the ball, but yeah, he can pull out a decent partnership with that Adriano guy.....

Adriano's going to be back to his very best this season. I have already seen a bit of it in the Porto match. He is looking sharp. That means we don't necessarily need a skillfull guy to partner him. However, I personally think Adriano is better as the target man. But if Crespo really is our only striker signing then I guess Adriano may end up being the deeper player. I still dream of bringing in Ibrahimovic as well, but I doubt it will happen now.

Crespo has worked well with Vieri and Shevchenko in the past so I think he can adapt to Adriano's game. Adriano will no longer be a guaranteed first team starter and the increased competition will hopefully bring out the best in him, Crespo, Oba and Recoba.
CRESPO: "SPECIAL THANKS FOR MORATTI"
Monday, 07 August 2006 20:02:56
MILAN - Hernan Crespo presentation news conference (1):
Crespo, both Inter and Milan wanted you, and you have joined the Nerazzurri.
"I found myself in a neutral situation and didn't want to interfere in any way. The effort made by Inter to sign me was clearly greater than Milan's. Being part of this club now fills me with pride and for this I thank Massimo Moratti above all, and Roberto Mancini and managers Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriali. I am very pleased about their belief in me, and now it is up to me to repay them in the best way possible."
How has your life changed since your arrival at Inter four years ago?
"I'm a few years older, so having experienced certain situations will help me. And my personal life has also changed. I am married now with two daughters and this has given me a bit more tranquillity. But I have the same desire, the same responsibilities I had then, and I'm still very motivated. I hope to do as well as I did in that year I was here."
Do you feel a bit less pressure now than when you made your debut for Inter?
"I have honestly never considered this. I let myself go and I have always tried to do my best. It is the same situation now. I know that we have important objectives so we face them lightheartedly, but with lots of responsibility. I am willing to do everything with this great enthusiasm."

If we sign a brilliant winger like Mancini or Ronaldo I will be pleased that we got Crespo. But you are right, I doubt Moratti will do this and it will probably cost us the Scudetto again.

okay so this isn't the guy I wanted. But Crespo is an Inter player again and so I support him. Not sure what this means tactically or any of that stuff, but whatever. Goodbye 4-3-3?
And maybe I would've wanted someone else, but lets face it, signing Crespo for free is a better move than Toni for 20-25 million euros. That would've been stupid, even if Toni is cooler than Hernan.
Perhaps there is still hope for Ibrahimovic? Oba's agent is talking like he wants to move Oba from Inter...Anyways, I would like to see Inter spend some money...

Guys it's not about gettin him for free so we save money,i think Moratti if he want 2 Get Ibrahimovic he will need money and that maybe from Martins sellin him for an English team like Newcastle will get us shit load of money so Moratti dont wanna give away Martins and replace him with just 1 striker so getting Ibrahimovic and Crespo with Adriano,Cruz and Recoba there we go we have 5 strikers.Crespo isn't that bad and he have respect in Italy and will put fear 2 other teams defence.if u can see guys that in Porto's game the creativity came from Adriano not Martins which is great,Adriano already has that sense of creativity and we all forgot that, now i dont care who scores more goals Adriano or Crespo but we just need 2 win and anyone can score.Crespo is a scoring machine and will be usefull and his creativity isn't in his passing but is in his positioning.

This is difficult for me since I really like Crespo but we can all agree it wasn't the most sensible transfer decision by Moratti
I guess this means we are counting on Adriano to be our creative forward. We don't even have a real playmaker damnit. It's good if Adriano is finding his form...no it's not good actually, it's necessary or bye bye scudetto.
The real problem is the predictability of this side. With 4-4-2 and Adriano-Crespo upfront, it will be crosses, crosses and more crosses.

Chelsea and Pompey eye Martins as Crespo leaves
Obafemi Martins has drawn interest from a host of Premiership clubs after he put in a transfer request yesterday following Hernán Crespo's two-year loan to Internazionale from Chelsea.
The champions may be among those who would entertain a move for the Nigerian after acceding to Crespo's request to return to Italy, though the strongest overtures will come from Portsmouth. The Fratton Park club are desperate for a proven striker having been thwarted in their efforts to sign Nicolas Anelka.
With Lomana Lualua unsettled on the South Coast Martins, whose pace, vision and direct running shredded Arsenal's defence when Inter won a Champions League group match at Highbury 3-0 three years ago, would be a superb acquisition for Pompey. However, it would require all of Harry Redknapp's charisma to persuade a player of Martins' calibre to swap the San Siro for a dilapidated stadium and training facilities.
Newcastle, whose manager Glenn Roeder saw Martins score in Inter's 3-2 win over Porto in Amsterdam on Saturday - would not have those difficulties in trying to sell the club to Martins and may be able to offer Uefa Cup football via the Intertoto Cup . That may make Tottenham, definite Uefa Cup qualifiers, a more attractive destination for the Nigerian. But the White Hart Lane club have yet to show any firm interest and will continue to monitor the situation.
Martins' transfer request was directly linked to Crespo's return to Inter, which was completed yesterday. "I have to thank Chelsea, the chairman and the coach because they understood what I wanted as a man and they have made me happy," said the Argentina striker. "It was hard when I [first] left to join Chelsea, I still remember I cried when leaving Appiano Gentile. What I felt was like leaving a big family and thinking I would not have another chance. But I have it now and I'm keeping hold of it.

...no one would even dare to give more than 10mil euros for Toni...lets admit he's a goal scoring machine and although i doubt that he'll score as much goals next season he's a good striker...i newer wanted him in Inter cos i dont apriciate uncreative forwards...but if Inter doesnt sign Ibra and made only this free transfer for Adriano's partner then i would feel humiliated....that is so cheap philosophy...i mean Moratti spend so much cash on transfers when we were 4 for the next season...and now that we have to prove that Inter is not a pussy and that we can defend this title on the pitch...when everyfan out there is wating for Inter to fail next season and to make us look like idiots after this administrative title...Ibrahimovic is the easiest thing Moratti can buy...damn it i newer thought that i would want him in Inter so much...he was some sort of a tiny flop next season...but this guy has Nuclear potential...with Adriano they can be Perfect....i've read that Inter is nagotiating for Ibra right now...but it can be a nagotiation for Trezeguet.......

Crespo is made for the seria A....he's a classy forward...but there's no way that he can be better partner to Adriano than Ibra....Adriano is not a playmaker...and he's not that creative...against Porto he can do whatever he wanst but against teams like Milan...Barca and Chelsea he will need someone else to drible and be creative...someone like Ibra...we watched Adriano last season and how insignificant his creative atempts were...he was lost...it was a clear indication that he needs soemone creative beside him...and Crespo isnt that....they can go and score a shit load of goals.,..and they can be total crap...Inter is risking again as usual...

Juve set Ibra price
Tuesday 8 August, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has opened a bidding war for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and demanded the return of the 2005-06 Scudetto.
“If he does leave, then he will go to the club that makes the highest offer,” Cobolli Gigli told journalists at today’s meeting of the Lega Calcio.
“I hope that the favourite for his signature remains Juventus with a new contract, but he’s headed for the side that pays him the most.”
Ibrahimovic has made it clear he has no intention of playing in Serie B following their demotion and threatened legal action to extricate himself from his contract.
Milan have been the favourites for some time to pick up the unhappy Swede, although Inter are back in the running now that Luca Toni has opted to stay with Fiorentina.
Hernan Crespo has joined the Nerazzurri, confirming that Ibrahimovic is top of Carlo Ancelotti’s wish-list in finding a replacement for Andriy Shevchenko.
Juventus have officially started the bidding war with Cobolli Gigli’s statements and it’s reported the Rossoneri are willing to offer up to £17.8m, although the Turin giants are holding out for £20m. The 24-year-old striker was signed in 2004 for £11.5m from Dutch outfit Ajax.
The Juve President also protested at the decision to strip his club of the 2005-06 Scudetto, which was handed to third-placed Inter after the Calciopoli trial.
“We believe there was absolutely no reason to take that title away from us,” insisted Cobolli Gigli. “Our lawyers are continuing to mount an appeal case and among our requests are the return of those two trophies. We want the authorities to take note of the fact this club made a clear signal of change, splitting off from the past Board of Directors.”
The Nerazzurri debuted their new jerseys with the Scudetto symbol during the Amsterdam Tournament last week.
“It didn’t give me any feeling at all to see that, as I don’t go poking my nose in other people’s business. What did hurt me was to see the Juventus shirt without that insignia.”

Maxwell and Maicon the brazilian full backs and Olivier Dacourt at the time you posted. But now Zlatan of course!!
Anyway. I guess this means Oba is probably on his way out, which is a shame as he is a homegrown talent. But if we get 12 million for him or so that would be good business. He will do well in the EPL with his speed, but his touch is too clumsy to become world class in Serie A.

Don't forget cheap (except maybe for wages) since he's only been on loan. Good business by Inter.
I do think though that he's becoming an increased injury risk at this stage in his career. Does he have another top season left in him?
I think yes! His style of play is injury risked (close contacts & battling character), but same time he had not really played too many games in recent seasons I mean 40 plus. So he shall be in a good physical condition for his age, not overworked like maybe Henry who lost last season to injuries or Vieira or even Sheva...

Yeah, Crespo also has that lunging style, always stretching out a leg or throwing himself at every ball in the box. Easy way to pull a muscle when you're not so young anymore, which is what I meant.
And clubs really do need to find a way to reduce the number of fixtures. I know that seems less profitable, but if it means better performances from top stars, then it's worth it.
exactly, certainly worth it
